I tuned in right around the time Wilcox was admonishing fans for throwing something on the field. What was that about??

For 60+ years, Cal students throw the cards for the card stunts as far as they can after the stunts. Tonight the students were warned and twice penalized 15 yards for it. I think it is because we switched sides for the team benches with the visitors now in front of the Cal student section.

I admit I didn't even notice this. In years past, they had always been on the other sideline near the students; I didn't realize they'd moved.

Peculiar that they'd penalize them just now after six decades of doing this.
I'm okay with the penalty. You can't have the fans hitting opposing players with anything. You have to be stern there.

I will never understand the use of the shotgun formation on short-yardage situations. Just get under center on 3rd or 4th and Inches and pound it in there.

It is now perceived as throwing stuff at the other team and deservedly a penalty. Just one of the unanticipated consequences of changing sides. It is especially stupid during a night game when there is no sun to avoid and a sizeable number of the students are probably drunk.

You are understandably too geeked up from your 71 point thrashing of Kent State today!

In the past, before this season, we were throwing the cards at our own team. I guess that's OK.

My hopes are:

1. Cal establishes the run and have 200 yards of rushing (done mostly by committee).

2. The defense holds SDSU to under 17.

3. Cal stays healthy.

4. The fans have a great time and come out again.
It looks like points 1, 2, and 3 were mostly successful. I hope point 4 was, but it was a bit of an ugly game, particularly early.

The refs definitely called less penalties later.

Wait, so PAC-12 rules don't permit the home team to be on the opposite sideline?

I remember that Tennessee's home sideline was directly in front of the student section and band for about a decade and a half, from when Philip Fulmer was coaching until Derek Dooley moved us to the opposite side around 2010. We've been there ever since.

We are missing 5 starters on offense. Ott plus two linemen and two receivers.

Why were we even throwing? Is Wilcox making a play for Top 25 votes?

Coe has a slice problem. Even on the one he made, is slipped right. This is a big problem.

It's worth noting that one famous alumni of Kent State is a man named Nick Saban.

So yeah, it's a little satisfying. Just a little.

Coe for kickoffs. Backup for field goals and extra points. Season is too important.

Yes. It was against Pac-12 rules. The issue was late afternoon, the team on the west side is in the shade while the students and the team on the east side are in full sun (huge temp difference) and with the sun in their eyes.
