Is Sandy the last competent AD Cal has had?
I know she was the last AD to be hired away, which is saying something.
Most Cal fans hated her for firing Tedford and hiring Dykes and hated her selection of Cuonzo Martin.

I still remember people called me a bad fan years ago for saying we needed to lose a bunch of games to get rid of Wilcox and save our future.
I hate that I've been vindicated but what we're seeing here is a team with stage 1 cancer but refused chemo and then a year later is wondering why they're stuck in hospice care.
When history looks back at this, it'll be Oregon who killed the program.
If they hadn't offered Wilcox, we'd never be in this situation.
But the story was, he had already turned them down, twice. No need to extend Wilcox 6 years with $30 million guaranteed because of it.
Place the blame where it is deserved: Knowlton (and his enablers) killed the program.

Wilcox had his chance at redemption against FSU and Miami and he plssed both away by playing scared and tentative when the game counted and he could have shed his skin. The season that could have happened but for his lame stubbornness.
Cuonzo was not a great hire but getting rid of Tedford was fortuitous given the health problems he was going to have later on, he was coaching himself to death before she fired himcalumnus said:golden sloth said:

My heart wants an inspired comeback win, but my brain says we need an embarrassing blowout loss. I just fear that it's too little too late if it's the latter.blungld said:
Didn't even keep it close enough for a comeback.

Apparently he's good at being Our Kinda Guy.golden sloth said:
What is Wilcox good at?
He is not a recruiter. His defense has been volatile. His offenses are typically bad. His team is no longer playing hard. And the team is not well disciplined or coached.
So, what is he good at?

Yes, this team needs to stay within itself. Clearly, that is what the problem was.
I hope the same for every good player on Cal.. unless Wilcox is fired.golden sloth said:
I kind of hope Ott, transfers and has success. He gave Cal football a chance, and Cal football let him down. He needs to move and find success elsewhere.
At this point, Jet is going to transfer too. Dude has clearly been more effective yet he's got a grand total of 2 touches so far.golden sloth said:

I did suggest it last weekbearsandgiants said:
Thought we'd go for 2 there

Well, that's the one reason why Ott still plays over Jet. Jet is one of the worst pass blocking RBs we've had. Yes he's small but so was Isi Sofele and that guy was a tough blocker.

Compared to what came after him, Cuonzo was amazing.

I think the bigger point is, she had success in finding solid coaches. Cal hasn't had that in over a decade.calumnus said:sycasey said:Strykur said:Cuonzo was not a great hire but getting rid of Tedford was fortuitous given the health problems he was going to have later on, he was coaching himself to death before she fired himcalumnus said:golden sloth said:

When was our last season undefeated at home, before or after? But Cal fans hated him and Cal undermined him ran him off. Announcing an investigation of Cuonzo regarding "sexual misconduct" that made national headlines the day before leaving for the NCAA Tournament could not have been worse timing.
In the end, Cuonzo is a mediocre coach but an awesome hire for us. He injected badly needed enthusiasm into the program. We could not have bungled the next two hires worse. Multiple guys on Cuonzo's 15 and 16 teams told me that while they would run through a wall for Cuonzo, Wyking was a lazy ******* they didn't respect.calumnus said:sycasey said:Strykur said:Cuonzo was not a great hire but getting rid of Tedford was fortuitous given the health problems he was going to have later on, he was coaching himself to death before she fired himcalumnus said:golden sloth said:
