I don't see AR going to a team where he's the deemed backup. I think he'd rather retire. So that would eliminate the 49ers, Cowboys and Green Bay. This is based entirely on my speculation, so FWIW.Cal88 said:BearGoggles said:

Do the Raiders have a decent OL?
Looks like the Vikes Colts, 9ers, Cowboys are all good candidates. The Raiders with the Carroll factor are up there too. Ironically, as does Green Bay.
That table also tells you that the Jets were a terrible fit for Rodgers.

Rodgers went to JC so he likely has two.
Yup. The comment is real. I guess we know DeShon Elliott's thoughts on Aaron Rodgers 😂 https://t.co/1dmqrsjNrt pic.twitter.com/bxV7UMHJmP

It is not a question of how I see him compared to those players and I said nothing about the Colts/Flacco. Assuming Purdy is resigned (which reportedly is imminent), the 49rs, Cowboys and GB have made huge commitments to their existing qbs - Purdy, Dak and Jordan Love.Cal88 said:BearGoggles said:I don't see AR going to a team where he's the deemed backup. You see Rodgers as a backup to Dak Prescott, Flacco or Purdy??

I like him when he donates to Cal...otherwise, it's all perception. Well, I suppose some posters have met him.AXLBear said:CALiforniALUM said:

You don't have to agree with someone in order to like them.
This is all speculation and click bait. They already said they want him back and are negotiating a deal. Of course he wants as much as he can get and they want to pay him as little as possible. If this was leaked by the team it is just to put pressure on. There is no way Cousins is getting the keys to the 49ers. He is pretty much done. Purdy is the best of a bunch of mediocre QBs that the 49ers have had in the past 20 years.Cal88 said:

This. And if it is a leak it's pretty transparent.Oski87 said:This is all speculation and click bait. They already said they want him back and are negotiating a deal. If that's the attitude, then they already lost. That is so much more prevalent in other sports than the NFL, and the hard salary cap. You pay the QB's that are good, and work hard at figuring out the salary cap around that. Clearly why the Eagles are the World Champions, by doing exactly that....and as an Eagles fan who was most worried about the Niners going into the season, then yes, please mess up the Purdy negotiations....Oski87 said:This is all speculation and click bait. Pretty much this. I mean if the team faces NO penalty for releasing him today vs 6 months from now, it at least makes sense to see how some of the other off-season QB questions play out (Darnold, Cousins, Winston just to name a few vets) to see if someone is willing to part with a draft pick - even if its just a 5th or 6th rounder.ColoradoBear said:BearGoggles said:Why would they do this? The bad news on this is it could drag on quite a while as there are no incentives for the jets to just release Rodgers quickly. His 2025 salary doesn't get guaranteed until the start of the regular season but the jets can just sit around and wait until they get some kind of offer. There is no monetary or cap difference to the jets if they act now, in June, or the day before the season starts.
It's also not in Rodgers' interest to retire because they Jets would hold his rights if he ever wanted to come back.
And then any team trading for Rodgers could be on the hook for $35 million in 2025. And Rodgers has a no trade clause.
Perhaps a deal can be worked out for a low round draft pick + salary renegotiation to spread out the 2025 salary before the draft. But again that would require a team to agree to paying Rodgers at that 35 million at some point.
Why would the Jets waste $35 million blocking Rodgers from joining another team when they don't even want him?? They don't have much leverage here.
They aren't wasting anything - their contact decision date is literally the first day of the regular season. Hold him til then and cutting 1 day prior is the same 'zero' cost as cutting him now. The dead cap money also doesn't change because that is all money already paid to him.
The entire purpose of the recent meeting was to be clearly communicate intentions so that both sides could have clarity and plan accordingly. The Jets want to move on which makes sense - AR even said that. Why would they drag this out for no real reason?
Because they can get draft pick?
I think the biggest question is precisely how good Purdy is. If the 49ers think he is truly franchise level and has proven that beyond a doubt, then he's going to be looking at something in the 50MM+ per year range (that's roughly top 10 in the QB world).mbBear said:If that's the attitude, then they already lost. Personally, I think this past season had to at least make the 49ers ask themselves if he is at that elite level that makes everyone around him better as well.
Middle range salaries (say #15-18) include names like Stafford, Rodgers, Carr and Mayfield. That puts him in the 35-40MM range.
If he and his agent are really looking for something that is close to market setting, I would be surprised if the 49ers would do a long term deal in the 55MM+ range - like a 5 year, 275MM with, say 180MM guaranteed.
I think something in the 40MM+ range (maybe 170MM, 4 years, 130MM guaranteed) seems pretty fair. Its not a great QB year, both in the draft or in free agency - so that probably bodes well for a proven commodity like Purdy. But me personally, I don't see him as a market setting QB, yet.
I bet 50 million per year for 6 years average with huge signing bonus and 150 million guaranteed. Something like a 75 million signing bonus and then 25 million per year increasing by 5 million per year over the course of the contract.Hail2Calif said:I think the biggest question is precisely how good Purdy is.
