Here is a website where regular project constructions will be available:

Project Info Details

I suggest devoted Cal fans can bookmark it for those midnight moments happen when you just have to be sure the project is still underway.

I hear that a 24 x 7 webcam is in the works. As I learn more I'll post it.

I have a few current site photos that I'll post shortly.

Yeah! 24/7 web cam progress reports!

They update the notices every Thursday or Friday. That along with photos once in awhile is ok.However a webcam would be NICE when they start digging.
I'll probably make a Berkeley run this weekend to see if the Stadium is open.
If so, I'll wander in and take some more snaps and post 'em.

"Monday, Feb 23... safe demolition of the Rock Wall."

From the artist renduring, it doesn't look like they'll be using them. I'm planning to put up a retaining wall in my backyard. I wish I could bid on these rocks.

I hope it's not just another pretty building!:p Are there any drawings of what the inside is going to look like? :bear:

Very amateurish. Shows NOTHING except some wimpyly drawn trees. (I used to do a lot of renderings in water color, ink, pencil and guache...made a lot of $ forty years ago when I was still in school doing them. I know of what I speak.)

Dudes....click on Grey Bears' link.Click The Campaign For Student Athletes.
Click Project description.Click Southeast Campus...EIR.Then click Community
Meeting notices.Click open house graphics and check out the proposed
Stadium lights and concourse cut-a-ways.

I purposely had you click through this way so you can see all the pages with
different links.Man,there is so much stuff in there....However,most of it is
2yrs old,so it's not gospel.

I would guess the reason we haven't seen any interior shots is that is an ongoing design process. With the probability that the SAHPC and the Stadium
construction is concurrent,my guess is that the drawings are not complete.
Or it's just a case of..it's none of our damn bidness !

Hand drawn renderings are a lost art....cherish your memories but dont think you're going to see them much anymore....too much time and cash...computer is faster. clients dont want to pay for them and design firms aren't going to front the cost when 90% of the people out there dont know the difference.

What's new at the construction site? When I was in town for the Berkeley Nano Forum this past Sunday, I had time during a break for a quick walk along the Piedmont side of the site. Through the fencing I could see the large hole-drilling machine and what I took to be a pile driver still there; however, I didn't see the large pile of I-beams that were there before.

I'm seeing quite a few dump trucks traveling along Shattuck Ave. I'm assuming they are going to/from the site. I'm hoping there's some major excavation going on.
Setting up a web cam would sure be helpful.

Thanks for the updates, BAMSPhD & CBF. Much appreciated.

I was on campus, today, and I checked the construction site from above. They were digging along the West-side which is the area of the SAHPC! It should be a large pit by week's end how quickly they were going to town on it.

A previous dig which is pictured in Grey Bear's recent post about cost is on the North-side. Does anyone know if this is the future site of an underground parking lot?

I heard that the underground lot was axed as a concession to the City of Berkeley so they wouldn't participate in future obstructionist litigation regarding the stadium. Am I wrong on this?

The "pit" is the complete building, no parking. The footprint is close to 60,000 sq.ft, and the building will be two floors below grade, except at the south end, where the bulding will come out of the ground 1 and then 2 floors as it follows the slope up to the Prospect end of the stadium near I-House.

The pit will be 40' deep in some areas. The soil is being removed and taken directly to another site by the contractor who has another job where the fill was needed.

So I wandered over today and took a few snaps.Mostly for the people who did not attend the scrimmage or never made it up to take a look.
I'll tell you what-the place is tore-up.Tore-up bigtime. The south end dig is coming along. They were applying shot-crete this morning. That dig is about 10 ft deep. The old ticket booths
are gone. They are starting to dig a big boy at about the north 40yd line. You can see the CAT starting to tear it up.He's about 5ft down already. The huge backhoe is having fun digging away.I watched him for about five minutes. He is getting serious. The big "drill" is almost at the North Tunnel. It appears that they will have the remaining I-bars in by Friday-you can seem them stacked nearby.
It's nice to see.The place is alive with activity and noisy.Noise is good.
Inside the stadium there are about 20 pallets of lumber to replace some of the splintery bleachers-just like last year.Near the south scoreboard they are doing some digging on the outside and marking under the bleachers on the inside. They weren't too talkative this morning.Maybe electrical ?
There is 5 pics in this post.I'll send more in another post.

I just walked in this morning. The place was wide open on the eastside.
Lots of students running the steps.Haven't grown a big enough set to buy a white hard hat and green vest and just waltz right into the dig to fire off some pics..although have thought about it.In my younger days I sure would have.
Stadium access seems to be no problem. No practice means no Tedford police.

I went by the stadium today,on a "pilgrimage" to Oscar's.Sorry,I didn't take any pictures.The whole area looks like a construction site...DUH !

Roaring Oski is missing in action. It appeared that they were digging up the base or modifying it.Hope the furds didn't steal him.Never saw it.The southside dig is twice as deep as it was 2wks ago. There was a CAT in there this am digging deeper. The whole area in general looks more excavated.

The new wood seat benches are being installed in the Blue Zone.Same as last year-not all of them-just the most rotten-why don't they replace them all ?The area around the south scoreboard in missing the seats etc.,in preparation for some support work.Just walking across the bleachers I couldn't help but think, this place is a dump.Hopefully after the donors get their new seats, the rest of the place can get the metal benches and a major spiff-up. Hope that is the plan.

Next week I'll take some pics and post them.

This may sound odd, but I hope they retain a bit of Memorial's dumpiness. The old place looks and feels like a college stadium, and I hope we never lose that ethos.
GoldenBear1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed!
When the place is packed it's just like fenway park or wrigley field, old but perfect.
Obviously need the proposed improvements, the best part about a new stadium will be the field being lower so all seats have great sightlines and a packed stadium to support the Bears. Don't need many bells and whistles inside a stadium to watch and enjoy a football game. A bench seat old or new, the band/students and the Bears leaving it all on the field, that's all I need.

Agree with TedfordBears.I love the place.I could go on for hours, but too many rootbeers.Maybe later.

Agreed.. I finally made it to an ND game last season and although their stadium is AWESOME, it's just way too new looking for such an old and venerated program.

before when i would look at the stadium from haas i wasn't able to really see any significant changes but now as i stand at the top of cronk gate at haas i can actually seem the beginning of the inner walls. The pit is actually starting to take form!!! the workers in there allow me to gain some perspective and the pit looks about 10 ft deep. pretty exciting. they have huge dump trucks going in and out all day long taking dirt away from the area.... every time i see the worksite empty i wish of a way we would just have guys working there 24hrs to get it done sooner : /

The cement walls are also in place in the pit, I don't know if this means the foundation is also set, but the sides of the pit are now definitely made out concrete and not dirt. Just walked through the stadium Saturday afternoon (5/16)

I was up at Memorial on Thursday and they were still unactive. I'm beginning to think they might using these for security...

On other news, I haven't seen anyone mentiona third cam that is attached within the bowl on the press box at the 50 yard line. I wonder if Tedford will use it during the open practices, so that even distant Cal alumni can view the live action.

Since someone else wasn't aware of the the Picasa Web Album for Insider Construction Pics, here's the link... I saw on Thursday an engineer taking pictures with a professional-looking camera, so I'm guessing he is the unknown source.

Before I went and saw it with my own eyeballs, I had no idea it went about 170 degrees around the stadium. Big is an understatement.

The think is almost goalpost to goalpost.

Thinking that we will still be 9th in terms of space per athlete makes me wonder WTF these other schools are doing... Whoa.
