And yet the Dodgers are still the superior franchise. Giants had Willie Mays, perhaps the greatest ball player ever. The Dodgers had Jack Roosevelt Robinson...the guy who made it possible for Mr. Mays to play in the first place. Willie Mays owes nothing to no body, minus one man and that man be a Dodger. Yup, it's nice being on the right side of history.

Any way, after two ownership runs by complete imbeciles, the Dodgers are back on track. Looks like it's going to be a pretty good ride.

yeah, it all was setting up well w/ Greinke & Kershaw going 1-2 to start off the series. both pitched their a$$es off at the beginning of the series, and the bats and defense let them down... this is where the series was lost. fun year... looking forward to next year (and hopefully management's throwing mad $$ and resources at David Price)

congrats to all the doyer's fans who enjoyed the ride and the battery chuckers who took pleasure in the face plant. i'm rooting for Detroit... something good needs to happen for that city, and i can't root for any team called the cardinals or for boston.

Donny Ballgame didn't help:

1. Subbing in for A-Gone in a winnable Game 1 (his replacement Michael Young was feeble in two opportunities to win the game)

2. Not running for Ethier in Game 4 (where he couldn't break up a double play)

3. Pitching Ricky Nolasco in Game 4 (who hadn't pitched since Sept. and was awful when he did -- he basically put the series on the line by pitching this journeyman risking going down 3-1 which is what happened)

4. Playing Hanley in Game 6 (he had zero range and could not get to relatively easy ground balls, could not hit -- message to his players were that without him we cannot win this game)

5. Not coming after Clayton after his 48 pitch 3rd inning, when we knew he didn't have anything left (put in Ryu, put in Volquez, whatever -- this is the end, do something)

I like Donny because he seems to be a good guy and a decent manager. But he's not a top manager and even with all the talent (although much of it was compromised for the series -- Hanley, Ethier, Kemp), you still need a top notch manager. Dodgers may need one to see the WS again.

Puig is not just a younger Vladimir Guerrero. He will even be better than Vladimir Guerrero was at his peak. Monstrous talent at age 22.

When I went to Yankee Stadium this summer, I got a #23 Mattingly jersey. Closest thing to a Dodger jersey there.

I should have gotten an old time Lou Gehrig or Joe DiMaggio or Reggie Jackson jersey instead. Mattingly isn't as dumb as Ozzie Guillen, but he makes odd decisions in key moments.

Former Dodgers Mike Scioscia, Dusty Baker, Orel Hershiser, even probably Steve Sax and Rick Honeycutt -- all current or former managers, infield coaches, or pitching coaches who probably are better than Mattingly in the decision-making department.

Then again, Jim Leyland is normally a great decision-making manager, and he made the wrong calls against Boston, taking Scherzer out twice too early and paying for it with Boston hitting series crushing grand slams. Sometimes, baseball is just weird and lucky.

Giants fans all upset Frank McCourt no longer Dodger owner and will now must deal with a monster in their division. Hilarious.

Wait 'til next year. Felt pretty bummed for a second, but it was still one hell of a season, and the future is bright. In the end, the injuries were just too numerous to overcome. The blow to Ramirez was crushing.

I didn't realize the standard for "successful franchise" was TV ratings. Thanks for setting me straight.

Also, World Series TV ratings have been dropping for years, regardless of what teams were playing. Only teams with massive national fanbases (like the Red Sox) seem to reverse that trend.
