Wait...what?....This is what you get for a $220 million payroll?...damn, might as well work for BART.

No worries. The Giants took their lumps all season and now it's the Dodgers' turn. But in the end, what happens in the past doesn't mean much. All that matters is the next game.

Kershaw owns pretty much every NL team. He's a great pitcher. But it was hard not to say something after all the Dodger fans were already designing WS rings in their heads not long ago.

And for those of us who have been around long enough, all the crap Dodger fans gave us about never seeing a World Series champ in S.F. Well, now we've had two and 1988 was a long time ago -- time for some payback.

And yet the Dodgers are still the superior franchise. Giants had Willie Mays, perhaps the greatest ball player ever. The Dodgers had Jack Roosevelt Robinson...the guy who made it possible for Mr. Mays to play in the first place. Willie Mays owes nothing to no body, minus one man and that man be a Dodger. Yup, it's nice being on the right side of history.

Any way, after two ownership runs by complete imbeciles, the Dodgers are back on track. Looks like it's going to be a pretty good ride.

Your move Giants fans.

To my fellow Giants fans: we need to refrain from gloating and should congratulate LA on a fine season.

To the Dodger fans: Too bad you couldn't get it done. But take heart, you were really good in July and August. In fact, I think I'll contact Magic and suggest that he put "We were really good for part of the regular season" on the championship banner the team will raise at its raucous, only-in-tinsel-town celebration on Opening Day 2014. "That won't fit on the banner," you say? "F*** it," I say. You don't know when a small market team like the Dodgers will be able to celebrate a feat like this again.

Now we can update the list of NL clubs, in order of their most recent pennant:

1. St. Louis 2013
2. San Francisco 2012
3. Philadelphia 2009
4. Colorado 2007
5. Florida 2003
6. Arizona 2001
7. NY Mets 2000
8. Atlanta 1999
9. San Diego 1998
10. Cincinnati 1990
11. Los Angeles 1988
12. Pittsburgh 1979
13. Chicago Cubs 1945
Never won: Washington/Montreal
Never won as NL team: Milwaukee
Won more recently than LA but then switched leagues: Houston (2005)

At least you're ahead of the Pirates and the Cubs.

To avoid any confusion, I was joking in the first paragraph of this post.

yeah, it all was setting up well w/ Greinke & Kershaw going 1-2 to start off the series. both pitched their a$$es off at the beginning of the series, and the bats and defense let them down... this is where the series was lost. fun year... looking forward to next year (and hopefully management's throwing mad $$ and resources at David Price)

congrats to all the doyer's fans who enjoyed the ride and the battery chuckers who took pleasure in the face plant. i'm rooting for Detroit... something good needs to happen for that city, and i can't root for any team called the cardinals or for boston.

Donny Ballgame didn't help:

1. Subbing in for A-Gone in a winnable Game 1 (his replacement Michael Young was feeble in two opportunities to win the game)

2. Not running for Ethier in Game 4 (where he couldn't break up a double play)

3. Pitching Ricky Nolasco in Game 4 (who hadn't pitched since Sept. and was awful when he did -- he basically put the series on the line by pitching this journeyman risking going down 3-1 which is what happened)

4. Playing Hanley in Game 6 (he had zero range and could not get to relatively easy ground balls, could not hit -- message to his players were that without him we cannot win this game)

5. Not coming after Clayton after his 48 pitch 3rd inning, when we knew he didn't have anything left (put in Ryu, put in Volquez, whatever -- this is the end, do something)

I like Donny because he seems to be a good guy and a decent manager. But he's not a top manager and even with all the talent (although much of it was compromised for the series -- Hanley, Ethier, Kemp), you still need a top notch manager. Dodgers may need one to see the WS again.

Dodgers will be fine. They'll be back, and eventually the breaks will go their way, which is what the baseball postseason is about. Mattingly is an idiot though.

Don't worry about it, beelzebear. The Dodgers are loaded now, and they will be good for a long time with this new ownership that is willing to spend money on baseball's galacticos to win. Puig is not just a younger Vladimir Guerrero. He will even be better than Vladimir Guerrero was at his peak. Monstrous talent at age 22.

grandmotherpoop is just bitter because she is a Sacramento Kings. When you are a fan of the sorriest franchise in all of professional sports (even sorrier than the Clippers, as the Clippers are good now), the most joy you can ever hope to get is by coming in with a bitter "HA ha!"

Agreed.

When I went to Yankee Stadium this summer, I got a #23 Mattingly jersey. Closest thing to a Dodger jersey there.

I should have gotten an old time Lou Gehrig or Joe DiMaggio or Reggie Jackson jersey instead. Mattingly isn't as dumb as Ozzie Guillen, but he makes odd decisions in key moments.

Former Dodgers Mike Scioscia, Dusty Baker, Orel Hershiser, even probably Steve Sax and Rick Honeycutt -- all current or former managers, infield coaches, or pitching coaches who probably are better than Mattingly in the decision-making department.

Then again, Jim Leyland is normally a great decision-making manager, and he made the wrong calls against Boston, taking Scherzer out twice too early and paying for it with Boston hitting series crushing grand slams. Sometimes, baseball is just weird and lucky.

Yeah. Thing is Leyland did the same thing against the A's-pulling Max and Verlander-and it worked . But that's the A's.

Wait 'til next year. Felt pretty bummed for a second, but it was still one hell of a season, and the future is bright. In the end, the injuries were just too numerous to overcome. The blow to Ramirez was crushing.

Jackie Robinson isn't hilarious. What's hilarious is that you make the claim that the Dodgers are the "superior franchise." Not historically they aren't. The Giants and the Dodgers, if you take into account their entire history, have had almost exactly the same amount of success, but the Giants have had slightly more: more World Series wins, 7 to 6, and more NL pennants, 22 to 21. The Giants also have the second-best all-time winning percentage, at .538. The Dodgers are third at .524. Actually it's the fact that these two teams have been so close that has made it a great rivalry, on both coasts.

Now, if you want to claim that the Dodgers have been better since moving to California, that's probably true, but if you want to claim that, then in the same breath you don't get to claim credit for Jackie Robinson, a man who never played a single game in L.A. It's your contradictory argument that is hilarious.

Nobody cares about the Giants. That's why they set the record for lowest tv ratings the last time they were in the World Series.

I didn't realize the standard for "successful franchise" was TV ratings. Thanks for setting me straight.

Also, World Series TV ratings have been dropping for years, regardless of what teams were playing. Only teams with massive national fanbases (like the Red Sox) seem to reverse that trend.

Haha funny because they still made it to the World Series AND won.

Jesus this is why people are laughing at the Dodgers right now. You thought you were a lock to win the WS b/c your ownership throws money at everything. But money doesn't always win championships, as evident by your pathetic performance against the Cardinals (a team we beat last year)
