Cory Seager will undergo Tommy John surgery and be out for the year! I thought he only had hip problems? Looked fine over the weekend.

Dang. As Mr. Seager is a longtime prospect and player for my fantasy keeper league team, the Ron Popeils, and because I appreciate beating teams at full strength, this is a bummer.philbert said:

To be precise, 13-13 in April and 2-1 in March. Regardless, I'll take it give their top three starters all spent time on the DL.GMP said:
A little sprinkling of even year magic as the Giants get 3 in the 9th for the win and get over .500 for the month of April. Woo.

Not any better for the Giants with Cueto on the DL with mystery elbow inflammation and Panik out indefinitely.
23rd in franchise history. 5 better than Bo Sox and Chi Sox.bonsallbear said:

They have a roster comprised of seasoned veterans who can handle adversity.sycasey said:
I don't know how the Giants are above .500 at this point, given all of their roster issues. Smoke and mirrors or something.
Not so much last year though.71Bear said:They have a roster comprised of seasoned veterans who can handle adversity.sycasey said:

Last year they had some issues in the clubhouse. They riddled themselves of the malcontents and signed a couple of premier "character" guys in Longoria and McCutchen. Better chemistry = better play.sycasey said:Not so much last year though.71Bear said:They have a roster comprised of seasoned veterans who can handle adversity.sycasey said:

Yep. He had a nice start v. SF last weekend. He has the look of a big-time starter.Another Bear said:

I heard Kontos was the one who complained to the press about Melancon's new bullpen stretching routine. Dumping him for nothing did seem odd at the time.ducky23 said:71Bear said:Last year they had some issues in the clubhouse. Who are all these malconents you refer to? Just off the top of my head they really only got rid of Moore, Nunez and span. Of those, id imagine that only span would possibly be a problem. Nunez loved it with the giants
Add Kontos... He was a big problem.ducky23 said:71Bear said:Last year they had some issues in the clubhouse. Nunez was not a malcontent.

So span and Kontos? That's your list? Getting rid of those two guys were the key to changing the clubhouse chemistry?
I think every clubhouse has a few bad apples. Id suggest that the problem last year was just complacency. It's hard to be as hungry after 3 titles. But the addition of Longoria and cutch has breathed new life into the clubhouse. I doubt anyone's really noticed the loss of span or kontos
And Moore... it doesn't take much to upset the balance.ducky23 said:71Bear said:Add Kontos... He was a big problem.ducky23 said:71Bear said:Last year they had some issues in the clubhouse. The hits keep coming. Kershaw goes on DL
I'm still convinced he will opt out so he can get at least a 5 year deal. I think he'll get more money overall by doing it now rather than waiting 2 more years to hit free agency when he'll be 32. This is assuming he still pitches well the rest of the year. Despite his losing record, his stats are still pretty good (unlike Cueto's last season).71Bear said:There is no whining or crying in baseball.bonsallbear said:

Kershaw has pitched a lot of innings over the last several years. As the saying goes - Father Time is undefeated.
It will be interesting to see if he opts out after this season or pulls a "Cueto" and continues to play on his current contract.
They decided to risk going into the season with a thin bullpen. A controversial but defendable decision given the alternative of going over the CBT line. If they can sign Harper, it was worth it. If not, a bad move.GMP said:
Did you know: the Dodgers have lost 6 straight (to Cincinnati and Miami, two teams a combined 24 games under .500) and 9 of their last 10, and are on pace for 100 losses?
The more you know.

Note: Since injuries are part of sports, I do not subscribe to the - "well, we lost a lot of players to injuries" response as to why they are struggling. A lot of teams have lost their premier players to injury. Suck it up and find other guys who can play effectively......

If Roberts continues to pitch Baez the Dodgers will continue to lose
Easy...TheSouseFamily said:
It's obviously a bit of a train wreck at the moment. Certainly no denying that. But it goes well beyond the bullpen. The club has taken a step back in nearly all aspects of the game: bullpen, starting pitching, defense, most hitting categories and even running. I think it gets better (the pythag W/L is around .500) but likely not enough to make the post season. I would agree that Roberts didn't have many options to avoid using Baez. But speaking of confirmation bias, Kershaw was pretty much only giving up runs via the HR. Not exactly a compelling stat. I think I'd still take Kershaw on the mound over Baez.
If any Giants fans have any coping mechanisms they're willing to share for being a fan of a sub-.400 team, I'm all ears.
