Nothing has really changed in those 3 weeks, except (as I predicted) the Giants' increased lead over the Padres. The Giants' schedule sure hasn't gotten any harder. They won 3 of 4 games against the Cubs, the only winning team they played, after golfing while the Cubs played the Padres and flew to SF. But you already gloated about that in another post. So how did their record against .500 teams suddenly get so much better? Answer: When I posted that the Reds were 24-29 (.453). They are now 35-35. Exactly .500. The Giants are 6-1 against the Reds. Incidentally, the Reds were 35-31 (.530) a few days ago. What happened since then? The Padres swept them in the only 4 games between the two teams so far. Put another way: almost 25% of the Giants' games against .500 or better teams are against the Reds. Under 10% of the Padres' .500 or better games are against the Reds. The Giants still have not played even back-to-back series of any kind against .500 or better teams. As I outlined above, the Padres recently played back-to-back-to-back road series against the Brewers, Astros, and Cubs. They started that stretch 4-2 but lost the last 4 to finish 4-6. It's almost as if consistently playing quality teams on the road is hard or something crazy like that. The Giants meanwhile just went on the road and struggled against the Rangers and Nationals, managing an overall 3-3 split. Their reward? A four game home sweep over the hapless Diamondbacks.
So I guess if you want to hang your hat on the Reds managing to climb literally to .500 to add those games they'd already played against the Giants and use that as an opportunity to say "gotcha" that's your prerogative. They are technically a .500 team, at least today. I'm not really surprised, it fits your MO when it comes to the Giants perfectly. Meanwhile if you're counting (and I know you are) the Padres still haven't had an off day that didn't involve flying from SD to NYC since May 20. Maybe they need it because they're driving instead of flying, I dunno. But the Angels aren't playing today either so...

Besides the Giants sweeping LA is not a big deal. It has certainly happened often enough over the years. Now, sweeping Detroit in the 2014 World Series - yeah, that was a big deal.
If we're only living for the "big deal" moments, then the amount of time we're excited will be extremely limited. If being a sports fan gets excitement only when there is a "big deal," then all of us Cal fans are wasting too much time.

Yep. It has been a fun ride so far this year. The ups and downs of a 162 season includes sweeps (both pro and con), winning streaks, losing streaks, hard losses and surprising wins.
