I wouldn't blame Roberts necessarily. He talks to the front office before the game about what pitchers they want to use in particular situations. Probably didn't help that Treinen gave up the winning run the night before.

I would love to hear why they used Urias, who they used in Game 5 vs SF and thus was on 2 days rest, and who they still plan on using on 2 days rest in Game 4.

Down 1-0 on the road, Game 2 is not a must win. You'd love the win! But it's not must win. Putting your Game 4 starter out there was insane, IMO. Because Game 4 is absolutely huge. It's either an attempt to stave off a sweep or the difference between 2-2 and 3-1.
That's the beauty of the playoffs. If the move works, they get credit for being smart and innovative. If it doesn't, they get second guessed by everyone. Last year, using Urias as their swing guy worked out great. Yesterday? Not so great.

It was stupid just like having Scherzer close Game 5 was stupid.

Max said he was tired last night.

I think the Dodgers will come from behind against Atlanta (again!) but why do they do this to themselves?

He gave everything he had and more in relief in Game 5.

For him to say he was "tired"' means he felt like he was carrying a ton of bricks and trying like hell to throw them one at a time. Unless he's flat on his back with his right-arm in a sling......he'll be ready to go next time.....IF the series goes past 4 games.

Yup, Sherzer is going to give you his best every night. He's the real deal.

Yes, and using him to close out Gave 5 was stupid.

I know he wanted the ball.

The answer should have been "No, we need you fresh next week."

I don't know that I'd criticize Roberts too much for having an "all hands on deck" mentality for a do-or-die Game 5 in the LDS. For Game 2, yeah maybe.

Sure, but there were still fresh arms in the pen. No need to go to Scherzer who didn't have his best stuff because he was tired.

I was surprised he didn't bring Jansen back out to start the 9th. He hadn't been worked heavily.

I think Jansen had been taken out for a pinch hitter.

Nope, He sent up Barnes to hit for Urias in the top of 9th. Barnes struck out. Jansen was very available.

I brought this up at 8:35a on the previous page......Can a Dodger fan please explain why in the hell he
brought in Gatoral before Jansen in the bottom of the ninth?

I didn't start out to dump on Roberts.

I haven't followed the Dodgers at all closely.....but I can interpret stats fairly well. Maybe I'm
wrong in this case....but .I conclude that Gatoral was really good last year. and just barely average
this year.

I got to see Scherzer up close during my groundscrew years with the Giants. During his start he was in the downstairs portion of the dugouts pacing back and forth in between innings with a bit of a mad man glare. There was no one around so it wasn't for show. I'm pretty sure everyone who plays and coaches with him loves his attitude but is slightly afraid of him.

As you probably know, Max his one blue eye (right) and one brown eye (left). Dusty Baker*** tells the
story of walking out to the mound to take Scherzer out of a game but the right eye convinced
him to go straight back to the dugout.

***Even though the Astros (most especially Alex Bregman) pissed me and an uncountable number of
other Nats' fans off during the 2019 World Series, I'm rooting for the Astros win it all. Dusty is very, very,
very classy man, and I say that not just because of his strong CAL-connection.

When my kids were little every Giant and every Brave blew off the small group of kids waiting for autographs after the game. Granted, they were all in cars or the Braves' team bus, but still. The only one who stopped to sign was manager Dusty Baker. And it was during a ****ty year for the Giants. I thanked him and told him that he was the only one to stop. He is a nice man.

Sorry, one more Scherzer story. Before the game he was pitching I was watering and dragging the warning track. Scherzer starts his warmup by running from the rf line to center field and back. Instead of turning around on the outfield grass he runs right through my newly dragged warning track. I look at him. He hardly blinks and runs back to the rf line. I re-drag the warning track and he runs back and does it again. Doesn't say a thing. I'm thinking maybe I should say something. That would have gotten me fired. I thought he was being a dxck but later in that game when I saw his mid inning pacing routine I knew he wasn't a dxck, just a bit of a lunatic.

Not while they are working. I don't know about fired but they wanted us to stay unseen. I blurted out sort of a joke to Bochy when he asked how the field looked at about 10pm after a rain delay. I was falling asleep and wanted to go home, not start the game. My second in command hit me in the back and told me to shut up. It is one of my fond memories.

Dodgers win!

They really needed that one.

Bellinger with the 3 run blast to tie it up. Maybe he's turned a corner.

Didn't see Mary Hart take a sip of a drink all night there behind home plate.

LOL at LA County's outdoor mask mandate when basically no other place in the country including the Bay Area has one.

That was like scoreboard-watching the Dodgers in the last week of the regular season. Didn't matter how much they were down, they'd just hit a bunch of home runs and win.

Can't help thinking the Braves let their chance at the World Series slip away right there.

Not that anyone cares, and I'm a lifelong Giants fan but Bellinger made two completely different swings on the high fastballs in that ab. Credit to him for being able to make the adjustment in the same ab.

TBH, I think he got lucky.

The high fast ball is a pitch he has struggled with and that was a ball he shouldn't have tried to hit.

However, he got it so the results speak for themselves.

He may have gotten lucky but that wasn't his normal uppercut hack.

Urias struggling - predictable. Lux not making a play a better center fielder had a decent chance of making? Predictable.

Urias's velocity is down. Long season and then they f'ed with him in the bullpen. Do the Dodgers just have a knack for fxcking up cy young winners?

Half left last night before they rallied. I guess getting a jump on the drive home is more important than the game. Why go in the first place.

Who in the hell is actually making the decisions for the Dodgers? One guy or is it a cluster ****.?

When the Nats beat the Dodgers in 2019. ON PAPER, LA had the better team..no question. Roberts (or whoever) made some moves that Nats' fans felt were just plain dumb.

It ain't over till it's over,,,,,,,,but

dimitrig

Roberts is an idiot.

He wasted potentially good starts by Scherzer and Urias by using them out of the bullpen.

Gavin Lux has no business in center. Chris Taylor can play there.

The Turners should have both been moved down in the lineup along time ago.

That said, if the Dodgers lose tonight then I guess they have the Braves right where they want them. LOL!

Well, Justin Turner getting hurt certainly complicates things.

His bat is ice cold, but his glove is still steady.

Rosario outhit the entire Dodgers lineup by HIMSELF.

That's embarrassing.

Quite frankly, I believe the Giants also would have struggled v. Atlanta for the same reason LA is struggling. Both teams were emotionally and mentally drained after the NLDS. Of course, the NLCS isn't over yet and LA did come back v. the Braves last year when down 3-1 but this year, ATL/LA has a different feel to it.

Regardless, what happens, I am 100% rooting for Dusty Baker to finally get a WS ring as a manager. He's a great guy who came so close several times, I am hoping this is his turn….

I think the big difference is that the Dodgers overworked their starting pitchers to beat the Giants, but meanwhile the Giants just started their guys on normal rest (except for one relief inning from Gausman). That usage may well be having an effect here that wouldn't have been seen if the Giants had advanced. Buehler, Scherzer, and Urias have been much less effective in the NLCS.
