Leaving this here - for those with knowledge of players/teams/stats, give immaculate grid a try. It's a daily grid game where you try to fill in cells with players that satisfy team and stat requirements (I.e someone that played for both SF and LA during their career). I stink and the best I've done so far is 6.

Pride month is great. Celebrating diversity and inclusion is great. Doing it through a group that openly mocks and offends another protected class is wrong and small-minded. The Dodgers flubbed this one like a Steve Sax throw to 1B.

Well said. Plus, it is not like they couldn't find any gay celebrities in Los Angeles.

I should probably leave it alone, but ...

The Sisters were selected for their charity work because they are a charity organization. They were not selected because they were famous or popular. But the Dodgers should never have selected to anyone honor anyone who would obviously cause controversy because their job is to embrace everyone and offend no one.

That said, there's a lot wrong with this discussion. One group may openly mock and offend another protected class, but that other protected class has done far worse than openly mock and offend the first group. In addition, that other protected class has been caught committing some of the most evil crimes imaginable all across the planet. Where's the outrage for that?

Perhaps a group whose mission it is to help help homeless youth, help people overcome drug addiction, and preach about safe sex all to communities that are typically shunned by other charities (charities like other protected class) isn't the best place for your ire when the other side protects child sex predators. All because people don't like they outfits they wear while doing it.

Seems like our values are out-of-whack.
I must have missed the Dodger's Catholic Priest Child Molestor Appreciation Night.

How about a German culture appreciation night with white blond hair people wearing swastikas? If they claim they do charity work they get a pass? Please.
They are doing a Christian Faith and Family Night. Would there be any controversy if they honored a Catholic charitable group that night? I very much doubt it. Nor should there be,

It's not that the Catholic Church had members molest children; it's the organization's systemic behavior in protecting them that's the issue.

And did you just seriously compare the Catholic Church to Nazis? Doing charity in a nun outfit is OK, but doing charity in a nun's outfit with face paint is the same as sporting Nazi memorabilia? I assure you, it is not.
To the best of my knowledge all experts agree there is no correlation between abstinence required of priests and child molestation or homosexuality. And I am not aware that nun's have been involved in any molestations. Therefore, the use of Catholic garb is gratuitous, not related to their core mission and purely meant to be offensive to Catholics.

Nothing you said is relevant to what I said. It is a statement of fact that the Catholic Church protected child molesters. That point was brought up solely becaue the Dodgers are hosting a Chrisitan night.

The Sisters' outfits have nothing to do with that particular sin. You clearly know nothing about them and yet claim to know their motivations. Your assessment of them is wrong.

When a US Senator attacked the Sisters as anti-Catholoc, the Dodgers sat down with the group, engaged with them, and learned that they are not anti-Catholic. Their outfits are related to their mission to help people in need.

Perhaps you should be more like the Dodgers and learn about the people you condemn before condemning them.

It's 2021 all over again, except the two teams are on pace to win a collective 33 fewer games. Lol.

The team that doesn't suck is starting to pull away from the ones that do. All the Dodgers needed to do was finally get a real shortstop to replace their injured one (Lux), as well as get some average pitching to replace the incredible amount of pitchers that have been injured this year. Adios gigantes!

Giants (unfortunately) aren't catching the Dodgers in the NL West. I'd be very surprised if any team other than the Braves represented the National League in the World Series, though.

The Giants season started bad, got VERY promising, got ugly, looked good again, then went terribly downhill quickly.

But I am happy to say that the Giants led a postseason game for as many seconds as the Dodgers did this season.

Cheers (in my best 1972 Dolphins voice)!

I am not going to read through this whole thread, but it is an incredible historical accounting of the Giants/Dodgers rivalry over the last eleven years.

Can't wait for next year!

I'll say this about the Dodgers. This was easily the weakest Dodgers roster in at last a decade, probably longer. As I predicted in roughly 2020 in this thread, they lost a lot of talent from their lineup over the last few years (of course, they picked up two considerable talents in Betts and Freeman). And their rotation has been ravaged by injuries the last 2-3 years.

So by early June, I thought the Giants had a shot to win with the division comfortably. The Dodgers stormed back, as the Giants collapsed, and won 100 games. I have no idea how they did that. So while I am sure Dodgers fans are mad about the last 3 games, I think Dave Roberts did a great job and should be back next year.

Yes, the Dodgers did it with smoke and mirrors. The rotation was thin and then they lost Urias.

That said, Roberts has been a big part of the reason they have flame led out so spectacularly. Please let this upset be the reason they finally move on.

"Los Angeles has won more division titles since 2013 (10) than all but 10 teams have won in the entire divisional era (since 1969).

Their 1,031 wins in that time are by far the most, with a larger gap between them and the second-place Yankees (940) than the Yankees and the 11th-place Blue Jays (859).

And yet… The Dodgers will emerge from this decade-long run of regular-season dominance with just one World Series title, which came in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. There's enough of an asterisk there that rival fans will claim they didn't win a single championship."

Dreadful series -- embarrassing and pathetic.

Yes, we all knew the starting pitching was patchwork all season and we were all a little delusional hoping it could magically come together in the playoffs, or at least have the offense overcome it. This was ultimately a failure on Friedman for not addressing the starting pitching for the playoffs. I don't know if he was punting so we could get the cap room to sign Ohtani, but he sure didn't play to win this season.

In the playoffs the scouting is crazy detailed. AZ was ready for the Dodgers. Have to give them a lot of credit. That said, Dodger batters are built for the 3-run bomb, long swings. So the Dodgers got a steady diet of sliders and changeups and they weren't ready for the fastballs. The ones that have short, compact swings like **** (Hernandez -- his nickname got censored lol), Rojas and Smith, actually did decently. So that's on the management in approach.

Dave let a guy who has given the most home runs in a season per inning EVER -- yes, in the history of baseball -- stay in after giving up 2 HRs in a row. He allowed the 3rd in a row. Stayed in. Next batter a fair or foul close foul HR. Stayed in. Next pitch smoked into the left-center stands. Hard to believe what Dave was doing in an elimination game -- and you had another young starter (Pepiot), arguably the Dodgers' best starting pitcher down the stretch -- who didn't pitch all series (not one inning) ready to go. Just horrible. Also, with the bases loaded and really the only look at the game to save the season, Dave pinch hits Austin Barnes a .182 hitter this year just to do the lefty-righty thing (Friedman also left off Rosario and playoff rostered a washed up Kolten Wong).

What was not Dave's fault was the play of the stars Mookie and Freddie. Those guys actually performing to their capabilities could have overcome all of this. For them to struggle would be one thing. To go 1-21 for the series is on another level of futility esp for two MVP-candidate type players. Such a disappointment.

Ultimately I was extremely impressed with how well-prepared, well-coached and well-scouted the D-Backs were in this series. Good luck to them. They totally smoked the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks are really good. Corbin Carroll is so good it makes me weep. He was taken 16th in the 2019 draft. The Giants took Hunter Bishop, who has been an absolute bust. Rough.

Mostly for the entertaining back and forth that has lasted 11 years, but also for the periodic bouts of incoherent rage from Chapman_is_Gone that the thread exists at all (his total inability to just not open the thread is really just icing, but it cracks me up every time).

I hope it lasts as long as this board does. Somethings are just tradition at this point.
