Kirby Smart or Pat Narduzzi, call me crazy. Do it.
I like Smart, good mentors.
Narduzzi lots of enthusiasm, a bit out of control and plays the 4-3.

I attended a tailgate at the Ohio State game where I spoke with a bigger donor in the know, who told me without a doubt there is a donor or donors ready and willing to buy out the contract...that 4 and 1 not only pissed off the masses, but also many players from what I'm told.
As for a possible coach, forget about the big names...I was told we would be looking for a no name up and comer type from a conference like the MAC etc. I was reminded that many top level coaches came through that conference, including one of the attendees husband, Urban Meyer...

The question of Tedford's coaching ability aside, I would have no interest in tailgating with "wealthy, influential, and well connected alums" because so many of them are self important pompous blowhards that should stick to what they know best: popping off in the Men's Grill at the country club, acting on insider information stock tips, and figuring out how to have the lowest tax rate possible. As was evidenced at the game today, as well as at basketball games, half the b*stards don't even show up for the games anyway.

Great article by Jenkins. Tedford is done. I'm glad that the big donors are FINALLY realizing this.

I think we're seriously looking at 3-9. We may beat Utah and Wazoo. I don't think we beat anyone else. If this happens, I cannot see any circumstance where Tedford survives this.

Allow me to be very blunt here: my knowledge of the inner workings of the AD and the Athletic Department are largely limited to things I research, observe, and understand. My contacts within the AD are limited; I do not consider myself to have "special inside" knowledge.
Having said that, any AD worth his/her salt will have a short list for replacing a head coach for any sport in the event it is necessary, for whatever the reason. It is pro forma, or at least should be.
John Kasser was famously caught unaware and unprepared when Steve Mariucci resigned in January 1997 to take the 49ers HC job. Kasser was left grasping and more than a little miffed. The timing of Mariucci's departure so close to LOI day played a role in Kasser's next move. Just 13 months earlier Kasser had wanted to hire Bob Davie to succeed Keith Gilbertson. But a number of alums on the search committee insisted on hiring Steve Mariucci, so much so that Kasser told Davie that Mariucci would be offered the job. Davie withdrew his candidacy and Mariucci was named head coach.
Kasser's reaction after Mariucfci left was to offer the job to Tom Holmoe because he was on staff and Kasser felt he could best salvage the recruiting class. Kasser might have offered the job to Hue Jackson, but Jackson had already left for the OC job at USC under John Robinson.
In short, Kasser was left with a Hobson's Choice: (1) hire the remaining (defensive) coordinator and probably salvage what was left of the recruiting class or (2) start a quick search for a new head coach with less than 3 weeks to LOI day. Great choice, right?
I simply can't imagine that Sandy would be caught so unprepared.

I don't think the defenses failure today was due to poor coaching/preparation but, execution. The middle of the defense is very young in class and experience: Sebastian(So)/Lowe(So) at S and Jefferson(Fr)/Forbes(So) at ILB. Sebastian and Lowe both excelled last year on ST but, injuries ended their seasons. This is the first significant PT for all four, over-pursuing I can expect, the DL unfortunately, has been under-performing as a stand alone unit. The blitzes today were effective, in-fact many of the players got through.

Haha! Well said, bearister!
I think rational people can see that while Cal has struggled, this team is probably 5 plays from being 4-1 with a win over Ohio State. Jeff Tedford has simply done too much, including the new facilities, to be not be given a chance to turn it around. It starts next week against UCLA, a team we will beat soundly.
And LOL at the people throwing out names like Kirby Smart and Manny Diaz.

That quote from the unnamed wealthy alum sounds like something I could have written. In fact, I think I did. A number of times this month, even.
This isn't difficult, folks. The handwriting is on the wall for everyone to see. I'll say again what I said shortly after the Nevada loss: the date of Tedford's firing will be November 18, 2012.

Can't help but daydream about how much better off we'll be without Tedford. Imagine when we get a real coach who plays the best guys. Just by replacing Maynard and starting Bigelow, our team should be vastly improved. Can't wait.

I'm pretty sure that AD Sandy Barbour has been reviewing possibilities for at least a season. I suspect that the only reason Tedford has survived the last 2 seasons has been the work on the stadium and the fact that the contract didn't have a proper "buyout".
The only question is who she's looking at and if any ambitious DCs or OCs have quietly sent her resumes. THe fact that Tedford has been on a hot seat for the past 2 seasons hasn't exactly been a secret.
