This is what I'll do on To$h the next time I see him.

Wow, truly hell hath no fury like a mediocre college football team fanbase scorned.
Get over it guys.
Tosh, as a former Cal player, did more for the Cal football program than any of you who are not former players have done or will ever do. And that includes all the mega-rich, personal injury lawyer boosters out there. He made some poor choices, but so did Tedford.
Now, Tedford is thankfully out of Berkeley and so let's welcome back Tosh to his alma mater and let this highly valuable and talented young man help his program get back on track and finally lead us to the Rose Bowl with the new coaching staff.

That's wonderful.

I really thought the Petersen comment made it quite clear this was a joke. An "according to my sources" statement so absurd, with the tongue planted so firmly in cheek, yet lo and behold, 8 pages of people discussing the pros and cons of this. Pretty amazing! I guess one can go ahead and post the most implausible thing "according to my sources" and off to the races we go!oskirules;842036361 said:
I apologize to everyone for starting this post, my intention wasn't to create a rumor to elicit a reaction. This wasn't about Tosh, I just wanted to poke a little fun at those posters who had so called "reliable" sources during the coach search process. But wow, once a rumor starts to spread, it takes on a life of its own, people don't even question the source.

Im probably in the minoity, but I would welcome tosh back. Everybody makes decisions in life that they regret. If he comes back humbly and eager to prove himself again, we could use a recruiting genius like him. Besides we all saw how things in Telford land wasn't so peachy ... Maybe he just had to get away.

My position is between OskiMD's and everyone else's. Agreeing not to continue bidding war but then doing it, plus recruiting Shaq while on a visit paid by Cal are definitely cross the line.
But at the same time, I'm convinced it was all premeditated. Is it not possible that Tosh fully intended on not continuing the bidding and staying at Cal, but then Sark continued to pound into his head how the Cal community will never have the support for football that UW community does (I don't think there is a UW version of Barsky or tree-sitters)? And the only example we have of Tosh recruiting on Cal's dime is Shaq making a comment that the on his visit the night before Tosh left, Tosh was saying he didn't know if he was going to take the UW job because of great the offer was, and he didn't know what to do. Sounds like a one-time slip up in judgment on what thoughts to share and what thoughts not to share. From all we know about Tosh, it seems that Tosh's weapon in recruiting is trust. He is young so the recruits relate to him, making him easier to trust. He tells it like it is. Thus, when he was considering the UW job, he probably instinctively told Shaq the truth because that's how his mind operates when recruiting--be honest with the recruits.
It's entirely possible that all Tosh's wrongdoings (and yes they ARE wrong) were not "malicious" but simply bad judgment. Could just be that he agreed to not continue a bidding war before he was 100% positive that he don't want that other job. Could be that he wasn't intending on recruiting Shaq to UW when he stepped foot into Shaq's house, but since he was in an environment of trust and confidence (the Thompson family already being Cal fans and all) he just let it all out without thinking about it.
Again, it's still wrong and Tosh crossed the line, but that doesn't prove premeditation and malice.

Some of you are taking this as a personal affront.
If this helps Cal football I'm for it. If we're going to get to where we want to get then we need to be all in. Utilize all our advantages and resources. That may or may not include Tosh.
There's a lot of butthurt here but this was never personal against Cal or any of the posters here. Tedford pissed on his own grave when he let Tosh take the fall for that Oregon debacle. Doesn't excuse Tosh's behavior but I'm over it and would welcome him back.
I'm sure Tosh still loves Cal. Byegones.

I don't know how you can even compare Tosh to Bozeman (who, incidentally, attacked one of his players at Morgan State last year), that's quite a stretch based on mostly speculation and heresay. Or, as the Vice President might say, a bunch of malarky.
People seem to forget that like them, Tosh is a Cal grad also. And even more, he's a former Cal scholarship football player. Give the kid a chance to redeem himself by recruiting bad @ss players who, under the leadership and direction of a good coaching staff, will take Cal to the Rose Bowl.

Don't forget that Tosh told Armstead (who had his car packed and about to leave for CAL, "If you don't come to UDUB at least don't go to CAL". This was premeditated. NO EXCUSES! He was intent on F&^king us over."

Keep in mind that if JT had not made Tosh a graduate assistant and then dl coach way before he deserved it Tosh would still be an assistant coach at the high school level. Tosh did not get along with th rest of the coaching staff thinking he was worth so much more than everybody else. Not good team work. Football is a team game and Tosh has shown that Tosh is about Tosh. You keep assuming Tosh should come back, he will do a great job and everything will be forgotten and forgiven. Aren't your forgetting that taking Tosh back is more than a little risk that things don't work out as well as you hope. YOu also seem to think that Tosh is the ONLY good dl coach and recruiter in the country. FYI there are many other good dl coaches and recruiters.

A close friend of mine who went to high school with Tosh said he was psyched up about the Dykes hiring and the possibility of working with DeWayne Walker to build a recruiting powerhouse in Berkeley for years to come, according to my sources.
Is Petersen still on the radar according to your sources? :p

Hey does Tosh have official PNG (persona non grata) status at Cal now? It's been bestowed upon a few journalist but not sure about alumni/former staff.
OskiMD;842035737 said:
What?? Tosh had assembled a top 5 recruiting class before he bolted. And he did this with the program stuck in a rut for years and no history of real success (e.g. not even one BCS bowl or outright conference championship under Tedford's decade at Cal). He was/is much more valuable than Tedford. Imagine what Tosh could do with the new coaching staff... Rose Bowl within 3 years baby!

Taking Tosh back is like remembering what he did for us in recruiting a few years back, without remembering that the style he poortrays and probably the attitude of some of his recruits is not what we want at Cal. Winning is one thing. Winning with a modicum of class is entirely a different thing.
