That would be a horrendous decision - after trading for Quan they have no need for another WR. Not when DL and S are such pressing needs.

Really? one guy drops him, and people here think it is news? I've seen a number of mocks, and every single one has KA going in the first, usually the third or fourth WR coming off the board. If he lasted till 31, the niners should grab him. Crabtree, Davis and KA, that would would be a very solid group.
There are a ton of db's and tackles they can get w there 2 2nd round picks, or they could group lower picks and easily move up. Plus TE's are will be available in the later rounds as well.: always:gobears:

they just picked two potential safeties, asomugha and the other guy. your top two are boldin and crabtree but after that its a crap shoot. manningham is coming off injury. i admit their primary need at receiver is a speed guy, but if he drops then its a value pick and i think boldin will only be a year or two rental at the most

Kiper's been undervaluing Keenan for a while. McShay still has Allen in the 1st round.

Never the less, if KA again refuses to do the physical tests, his stock will drop. A bad knee is not what teams are looking for......

In February kiper had keenan at 22

I dont see that happening since the Niners are apparently trying to get Victor Cruz.
That and they hate and have a bias against Cal players :sarc:

His mock draft is really weird, he has no QB's going in the first round. Has that ever happened?

Aso is going to play corner. Said they never even discussed him working at S - and Craig Dahl isn't being brought in with the hopes of starting.
None of this is definitive of course, since things are always in flux. But I would bet a very, very substantial amount of money they're not going with a WR.
gobears725;842110235 said:
id say that it is 3rd in their needs as you stated the d line and S help is more pressing, but dont they have two second round picks? say they pick up a dlineman and safety already with their first and early second rounder, the next pick, a late second rounder, trade it and move up and take KA as a middle second rounder. yea its far fetched i guess, considering KA's value on the niners is probably 2 years from now and not immediate.
heartofthebear;842110224 said:
Is the whole thing sarcastic or just the last? The reason I ask is they only have about 2 million remaining under the cap. They would have to release some folks.
In any case, I agree with Blue and Gold that WRs like KA are not an early round draft need when compared to defense or TE. I even think they would take a CB over a WR early, unless Austin, who can stretch the field, is somehow available or they trade up for him.
I haven't followed all the off-season signings at WR, but about a month ago WR was a big need for several teams like Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Green Bay and New England. It seems to me that one of those teams or some others would still take KA in round 1 if his 40 time is respectable.
In any case it should be a fun draft to watch with all the 49er picks. This is a stretch, but I wonder if they would/could trade up enough to get Dee Milliner or a top DT/DE. It would be costly for sure. But would it be worth it given that they don't have many remaining needs and would still have at least 2 3rd round picks left as well as a ton of later round picks?
gobears725;842110214 said:
its only cause its kiper, but id still say as long as he runs a halfway decent time hes a first rounder. its going to be handtimed i assume so it shouldnt be too hard.

The NFL scouts aren't as dumb as I look: They are well aware of the little idiosyncracies of the "dash for cash" and take them into account. If, in NC, it's like, "Let's pull a few shenanigans to get KA a 4.45", that's NOT going to help him.
StillNoStanfurdium;842110222 said:
April 9th, that's the day he's supposed to be holding his private workout for scouts.
Tedford;842110185 said:
They have pick 34.
I think Keenan would be a steal in round 2
StillNoStanfurdium;842110312 said:
I'm pretty sure scouts will attend in person and bring their own stopwatches to do the timing. They won't just take whatever an officially released time is. It's what they do even at the Combine AFAIK.
