Being a native Oklahoman, I can say that this move makes more sense than many give credit. OsU has a great atmosphere for football, the degree is never as important as we make it out to be, and there is a decent chance he will see regular game action. Big12 defenses suck.

I've never been there for a game, but have heard great things about the experience. Games I've seen on TV with the place oranged-out are amazing. Clearly, they are doing something right there to be #13 and in the Cotton Bowl.

For the young man wanting out at Cal, from football angle, this make sense, and is somewhat close to home...

It's a loss for Cal, multiple now at the LB spot.

Leaving the Bay Area, the Cal degree, to walk-on in Stillwater?

I agree that the walk on part is odd. That's a big financial hit unless there's a promise of a scholarship in a year. But the rest is debatable. The bay area isn't for everyone, maybe he likes Stillwater better than Berkeley. It's quite possible that being a football player in Stillwater is more fun than in Berkeley.

I've never been to Oklahoma but it seems very possible that an OkSt degree + OkSt alumni network + status as a former OkSt player is at least equal to the Cal equivalency if you want to live in Oklahoma long term. And judging by our grad rates he probably just increased his chances of getting a degree pretty significantly. This isn't Shantay Leggans leaving right before his senior year to go finish at Fresno.

Other than Rodgers/Jackson every one leaving is easily replacable, all the handwringing about Ragin is laughable. Kid was asked to step up and be a leader and he couldn't or wouldn't. Didn't play because he had a cold, then complained about burning his redshirt.
Not digging the Dykes regime but these kids have some responsibility with the teams play as well, not as much as the coaches but thin skinned football players are not going to be big time anywhere.
As for protecting the coaches to the detriment of the players I will reserve judgement until signing day, my guess is Buh is gone by the second week in February

Hard to disagree with any of that boredom. A better chance of getting a degree, one that should do the trick in that region... Joining a well-coached, winning team too. I can see the appeal. Having to pay out-of-state tuition for year sort of sucks, but when one wants out, and into a better situation, that's a worthy price to pay I suppose...

I wish him well, as I do all who are moving-on.

Sorry, but I think it is absolutely laughable dumping on whether good prospects WHO ARE FROSH AND SOPHS will be missed. Ragin showed promise and Tagaloa is a very good prospect who needs better coaching and more experience.

As for dumping on Ragin, I saw enough of that from Cal people when Holmoe was here, including massive dumping on Boller's attitude. Pretty much every guy that got dumped on to protect that staff turned out to be hard working and a good player under Tedford. Cal people seem to be very good at circling the wagons around inferior coaches to the detriment of the players.

I hope our coaches know what they are doing and that every single person on the team that has left can be easily replaced or had a bad attitude. I don't believe that to be the case though. I also don't understand the blind loyalty to the staff. I understand we don't have much of an option but we don't need to insult the kids on their way out.

Additionally, Tagaloa was selected as a team captain by the players at the beginning of the year. He was the youngest one selected which meant he had some respect within the locker room. There's no positive way to spin his leaving.

I'm not circling the wagons around this staff, I don't like the offense in the long term and think last year was a total disaster.

I just don't believe a few players bailing/quitting on the program is the end all be all.
And we'll see on Tags, don't think he has the footwork to be very good, some bad footwork can be coached up but probably not enough for him to be a major player.
And I don't think losing a 3 star guy is a big deal, especially one who appeared soft

How about we look at a year like the 2011 season. That was JT's second to last season right? Recent history. Many of the same players. Recruited mostly by the same coaches for the most part. How many people from that team left due to academics, transferring, retirement, or going pro? In a quick glance I believe I saw many. What conclusions could be drawn from that?
Possibilities:
-terrible culture
-bad fit between the players and the university
-Tedford's fault
-normal or near normal attrition that happens all over CFB
-losing
-tough school

This is not to excuse Sonny. He could have turned things around, obviously. He had a TERRIBLE year in many areas!!! However, it's not like he came and players left and they had never left the school before.

I count 8 returnees IF: Fortt returns and Forbes is able to get on the field with just 1 commit (Atoe). Maybe Jason Gibson goes back to LB or Drew can be converted. Unfortunately, we're also short of DBs.

Actually only 3 healthy LB'S, Tandy,Barton, Jefferson.

There were no leaders on the team, so they picked a quiet stiff. How is that good?

How I bottom line the situation: SD needs at least 4 wins next year in order to continue. Anything less and his seat, as well as the AD's, will be on fire.

And I don't think 4 wins is a gimme.

Are you talking about players who left after the 2011 season or players who were on the team then that left after the 2013 season?

If it's the former, then who left? If it's the latter, that's more an indictment on the current coaches imo.

And yet our coaches selected him as starter and captain. So you're basically saying both Tags and our coaches suck? Go Bears. Happy New Year
