I was already having bad thoughts at the tipped-up interception. Seriously, we regularly have like 2-3 disasters of Biblical proportions which we perform in order to lose games which we have no earthly way of losing.

I just do not get putting Rubenzer in the game, except for some very special situations, and he should never play when the game is on the line because EVERYONE in the stadium knows he's going to run

Yes. And They were outrun by Zona's receivers. I have witnessed Hail Mary's but on the last play we simply handed it to Zona.

If you have to assign blame I would look at Maurice Harris and his batting the ball out of bounds when he had possession. What the hell was he thinking? It led to an easy TD for them.
That was just an embarrassing loss. I mean really, we didn't just fold, we collapsed. Wtf...
This is a good Arizona team that was not ready for what we brought in the first half. We should not have given up that on side kick yes. Our D was tired big time missed tackles as game wore on.

That would have worked only if we had scored a touchdown in that situation, and left little or no time on the clock.

The only one I can think of that rivals it would be the Big Game where we gave up 14 points in the last 10 seconds (or whatever it was). Riley/OSU is maybe 3rd.

We were offsides on that onside kick anyway. That penalty would have caused a rekick. Him backing up on the second one was brutal but no more brutal than all sorts of plays and calls and strategies in the 4th quarter. I think I've seen the best of the Bear Raid offense and I don't like it. It seems an impossible system from which to close out games gracefully. They will all be like this, at least the ones we are in. Not looking forward to the massive heart attack I'm going to have watching these cluster f's.

How about the '90 Big Game. Stanford recovered the onside kick in that one. I forget if the kicker missed the first one, and then the penalty gave him a second shot, or if the penalty just moved him into range. That was the first Cal game I ever watched, and it seems to have set the tone ever since.
But this game featured the opponent recovering an onside kick when it was expected, and making a hail mary in the same game. Multiply the odds of both of those happening. Truly hard to believe this really happened. One in 500, a thousand maybe.
I agree with the 2 point conversion but I see that as a no brainer. I don't think we wanted to go into OT with them.
Woulda coulda shoulda ... epic game for Arizona. Sonny and his coaches were out coached. Some real questionable play calling in this game in the second half.

We scored 28 in the first half and 17 in the second half . We gave up a hail mary and onside kick cause we are young.

It didn't make much difference in the end, they pinned themselves with the offensive interference call.
Tough loss, but we've got to suck it up and move on. This season's goal is to make a bowl game and we're 2-1 with a good chance of getting to 3-1 next week.

Ha!!! You make a good point. Still... I disagree. That game was simply a tough loss with a backup QB in a game that cost us the #1 ranking. We would NOT have kept that ranking. The Tedford slope would have still trended down. That was a good team. This loss is seriously apocalyptic. It is genuinely impossible for a Cal fan to believe they have seen the worst because the universe is always willing to kick us twice as hard the next game. I'm not entirely sure this is worth it anymore. (I'm sure I'll feel differently in time.) I'm still amazed that we found a way to lose. It is seriously beyond belief.
I'm seeing the replay/highlights, Jones pushed off on EVERY good play he had. They only called it once at the end.
