Love McClure. A great representative for our university. He's had some hard luck on the injury front but seems to be coming back along nicely. You may not know this, but Stefan worked last year in the Cal's Athletic Development Office, getting to know the system, etc. I've talked to him and believe his long-term goal is to become an athletic director. So who knows? You may get him back in San Diego at some point in a professional capacity. Best of luck to the Aztec's this year - except, as noted, this Saturday.

I could tell years ago that Stefan was going places. He was a great kid - respectful, articulate (don't start), intelligent, focused - I hated seeing him leave Vista. He was a great representative of our school then, and it sounds like he's an even better representative now. I'm glad he didn't pick up bad habits in college like a lot of players do.

My only comment is that SDSU won the game by 34 points. That's close to a 5 TD spread. In most circles that would be considered very good. Are your fans complaining because it looks bad compared to Cal's win.
(Yes I get it that there were few TD's but come on now.

No, it was the fact that one of our linebackers scored twice as many TD's as our offense scored. (2 to 1) Most of our scoring came from the defense and special teams.

Against a FCS Non Scholarship team our offense only managed 305 yards, the QB went 9 for 21 with a pick and no TD's, and our star RB went 20 for 65 on the ground. That was frustrating and concerning.

But it's all in the past now. The team has this week to address the issues from Saturday night and then they can come out and give Cal a good game (and maybe even win it).

As I understand it, the QB is a grad transfer (from kansas or kentucky, I forget). How did he look during camp with regard to his accuracy? 9-21 is not great obviously - did it look like he was just off, or was he on but your recievers had a case of the dropsies? Is there a QB controversy in the works or is he the the sure fire starter no matter what (I ask because it's important to feel that the team is yours as opposed to looking over your shoulder).

This.

Here is the problem with the Rocky Long haters. We won by nearly 5 TD's and nearly shut the opponent out.

It was a tune up game against a bad team. We showed very little of the play book, we worked on things that the staff knows we need to get better at...What is that?

-Oline play, especially at guard and center. Running the ball up the middle. Almost every running play we ran was between the guards...thus working on that part of the game. When it didn't work, we didn't vary...We kept running up the middle. Why? Rocky knew he could win and work on things at the same time.

-The tight ends are a major part of our game plan this year, but we didn't throw once to them. Why? We didn't need too and we were going win by 30 anyway, so why not work on the inside running game.

-Rocky and staff used this game as a practice. Nothing more, nothing less.

Rocky haters usually jump to conclusions quickly (actually not Rocky haters, but coach haters).

All Aztec fans were talking the week before the game that no matter what happened good or bad in this game, we wouldn't know much about the team.

That is why the complaining (and bombardment of complaining) by 3 or 4 on Evil Mesa was so bizarre. Its one game against a team we could have beat running backwards.

Yes Vandalus, Maxwell Smith is a senior transfer from Kentucky. He started as a freshman at Kentucky (SEC) and was named freshman of the year in the SEC. He started his soph year and got injured. Their was a coaching change during his injury and the new coach changed philosophy and brought in a QB he wanted. Maxwell was the odd man out.

None of the QB's stood out in pre season practice. Maxwell beat out local redshirt frosh Christian Chapman and Soph transfer from Oregon Jake Rodrigues.

It was generally assumed by most Aztec fans that Rodrigues would be the starter this year when he transferred here last season. So it is somewhat of a surprise (at least to me) that Maxwell beat him out.

I really think the Aztec QB situation right now is a 1 1/a and 1/b. I don't think there is a lot of difference (in the coaches minds) between 1 and 3.

Maxwell won out because he has the strongest arm of the 3, is big and tough, and has a 1 1/2 years of game experience as a starter in the SEC.

Another, and more grandiose, suggestion has been to have SDSU break away from the CSU system. I don't know all the details; It would still be a state school, but independent in most respects. We hope that such a status would make us more attractive to the Big-12. Frankly, I think we are good enough academically to be a Big-12 member right now. No disrespect, but Iowa State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State are not exactly on a par with Cal, UCLA, and Stanford. SDSU has made a lot of progress educationally in the past decade or more, but of course will never rival the UC system in that respect. Well, certainly not Cal or UCLA. Don't know about Santa Cruz.
