I went back and revised..but Maynard as S&C has a lot of promise.

We would defy laws of physics and go -1 and 13.

Meanwhile, "sources" aside, Sonny and staff lost no time going on the recruiting trail.

I assume recruiting for Cal.

Mizzou has a turnkey D. It could be a special opportunity for Sonny and TFS (if TFS goes wherever Sonny does).

T ... Think about that for a second. SC beat out Memphis for their head coach.

$C has had more Heismans taken back than Memphis has won ... hmmm, maybe that's not such a good thing, but so typical for the South Central folks.

"We have exchanged terms, and we're awaiting a response as far as the extension," Wes Mallette, Cal's associate athletic director of strategic communications, said Tuesday afternoon.

Mallette must not be aware that interviewing w/ Missouri is Dyke's response. My guess is that Cal must have low-balled its offer.

A few things in addition to what's already been said:

1) Recent on campus troubles at Missouri could be upping Sonny's worth in their eyes. People tend to think that dealing with the craziness that is Berkeley sets people up to not get blown away by some on campus angst regarding football (hence Barbour to PSU in the wake of their recent disaster.) And they're probably not wrong about that.

Very good point. If you can handle things at Cal, should be able to deal with Missouri where there will be more support. Same deal with SB. There is solid logic there.

Well if he wants to live in that hole instead of the Bay Area all you can say is WHOA NELLIE!

You can buy a helluva lot more house for the money in Columbia, MO. It's a college town in the middle of the state. Easy distance to KC or St Louis if you want city life and shopping. A couple of hours drive down to Lake of the Ozarks if you are the outdoorsy type.

Would you want to recruit there instead of the Bay Area -- that's the better question.

The difference between what Dykes has done and what Tedford did before the extension in question couldn't be much bigger. Tedford took us to the stratosphere (as far as Cal Football is concerned), whereas Dykes took a conference bottom-dweller and moved it up a few notches to the middle of the pack. 2004 was a truly amazing year. If Dykes had accomplished that, then we'd have reason to discuss an extension. And this is before taking the stadium project into consideration. Dykes is no Tedford at this point (and I wanted Tedford gone).

Whatever a lot of you are smoking... I'll have some!!!

Agree, and that's why JT elicits such strong responses from the fan base, both good and bad.

Otherwise, see you on Tightwad Hill!

When there were rumors of JT to the Chicago Bears or to Washington, there was palpable panic. With Dykes, I think it's more...oh, well...that settles it then.

Sonny and TF can go to Branson whenever they want. That's a plus.

The doom and gloom guys are hilarious. Remember when we'd be forced to hire a young D1 assistant w/out HC experience in hoops?

My gosh, Dykes has done some good stuff but he's incredibly replaceable. As long as we hire someone that runs some variation of a run and gun / air raid offense we'll be fine. If we hire a Harbaugh type coach that believes in a fun first, play action pass type offense we're going to have a rebuild on our hands.

My feeling would be to thank Sonny for what he's done and acknowledge that he's doing us both a favor by leaving now.

In a post game radio interview on KGO last Saturday night, SD told JStarkey he was going to be in LA in 2 recruits' living rooms the next day, Sunday. That was how he was going to celebrate being 7-5.

Agreed. Sonny Dykes is not a terrible coach, but it's not like we'd be up a creek without him. If someone else wants to offer him more money, let him walk.

He'll be money if Sonny bolts though because of a modest extension. No need to give him everything he wants. Stay the course Mike. If Mike said that (Sonny is my guy) for show to the recruits, yet provided Sonny with a pedestrian offer for a pedestrian job done, I would be impressed.

Never underestimate a wrestler. They're often unassuming and have an odd world view, like if I get you on the ground you are DONE.

Negotiation 101: Get leverage. Both sides are trying to get the upper hand. My problem with this is the football players. Somehow does not seem fair they cannot move without sitting out a year.

I don't care either way at this point but I hope it doesn't screw with the commits we have for 2016. We're already losing several guys without having a recruiting class that dissolves a'la Tosh Lupoi..........

Wouldn't mind seeing him go...

7-20 conference record
Washington St. has shown more improvement with less talent, and we have a potential 1st round QB (yeah, I said it).

The intent of the rule is to prevent other schools from constantly recruiting other teams' players. How would you feel if Oregon -- who needs a QB next year- was actively recruiting Jared Goff for next season?

Tediford's agent was really good at this stuff too - why Tedford extension was a costly disaster.

Tedford essentially renegotiated his contract every year he could and carve out more power than I thought was possible at Cal.

Leverage is very powerful...except if you're using a broom stick to move a 3-ton bolder.

Dykes is 13-23 at Cal, with a .361 wp, 7-20/.259 in conf.

Seems delusional to ask for an extension with that record.

Don't think our AD is negotiating. Based on how ugly this is turning out, he is encouraging Dykes to leave with a low ball offer.

I don't know how many of the recruits committed to Dykes instead of to Cal, but I am hopeful that, if Dykes leaves, we can quickly replace him with someone equally, if not more, effective at recruiting. Mora, Peterson, and even Sark did a pretty good job of recruiting immediately after getting hired.

cal is a good job for sonny. i think he stays. the big test will be next season when he doesn't have goff. i would like him to say bye bye to kaufman and tommerdahl.
