There's a lot of needless anger on this board. I am almost 60 years old. Since I was born SC has beaten Cal like a drum in all but a very few seasons. Don't invest yourselves in these games. When Cal wins it's fantastic. When they lose to SC it's expected by everyone of us that has a brain. Tonight unfortunately was worse than normal. If they win big game this has been the best season in years. We're in the middle of the longest big game losing streak ever. Cal can still win that game as long as Stanford still has a lot of injuries and they seem to.

Some of us want Cal to be better. Your generations mentality is why it isn't. Not hyperbole. Seriously. Cal doesn't HAVE to be ***** 60 years ago it wasn't. Cal may not be a perennial championship contender, but WSU does better. OSU does better. Stanford does MUCH better. UCLA is much better.

Cal needs to shrug off your generations mentality or cut football.

The program needs get to a 6th win next week against FURD - the extra 3-4 weeks of practice is necessary to develop the '19 class guys for next year.

Speaking of next year - OL will be better, QB will be better, RB will be better, WR/TE won't be worse

Everything will look better with a new OC. Otherwise the extra practice time might actually hurt the team.

My generation knows that Cal doesn't compete with SC at football. Except for about ten seasons in 60 years they haven't. It isn't the end of the world but Cal will not compete in football with them long term. You don't understand Cal if you think that's not a fact

Cal spent upwards of $500M to compete with SC at football. That's a fact. So you either get on board with that committment or you basically write-off $1/2Billion .

When you recruit 3* type talent you can be pretty good with superior coaching. Those teams will run into buzz saws when they face competently coached teams that recruit 4* and 5* players. That's what is happening tonight against USC. Our coaching on offense just isn't good enough to maximize every ounce of 3* star talent we have, as happens on the D side of the ball.

True, but going in both team had 4 losses. The result was quite unexpected. Even if USC was expected to win, I don't think anyone expected this to be a laugher like it was. On top of it, Garbers and Brown are out again. This was a real low point and not just because of the result. Cal went on top 7-0 and from there we were just killed. This USC team has only one conference title in a decade. It's not the USC of old. They were playing with a lightly recruited freshman QB under center. Their defense gave up 56 to Oregon. Cal really laid an egg.

Oregon also has 4 and 5* players.

Notice how no matter what we couldn't get pressure on their QB and how the SC WRs ran free from our DBs? Their athletes are better than ours.

We seemed to bring only 3 men too many times tonight. Their qb had all day to sit back there while his receivers got open.

Of course, but USC lost to a Washington team we beat. They barely beat a bad Colorado team. They beat a bad Fresno State 31-23. This was a vulnerable USC team playing on the road and Cal had every reason to think we could stay in the game. Instead, we lost by 24 and it was frankly not even that close. I won't fault the effort, but this was a missed opportunity.

As a generation X'r, I find it ironic that millennials, who supposedly are more pro diversity and inclusion, have this idiotic phrase.

When we brought pressure it didn't get there anyway.

Your team is getting hammered at home and a smile creeps onto your face? How? How about watching your replacement and maybe show you're in the game? I thought losing stings. I'm sure you've played sports. Do you grin when you are down? Apathy.

I think we are only 1 QB, 2 WRs, 2 OL, 2 DL, 1 DB, a kicker, and a punter away from competing at the top level in the Pac-12!

But then when they all go down to injury we are but the thin Blue Line again.

That 'lightly recruited QB is perfect for a spread offense, and should be a 5 star

They are making some great plays on deep balls. We haven't been doing ourselves any favors with the slips on defense but give Slovis and Pittman some credit for making great plays.

Maybe Modster can take 10 yards off his deep balls and we can complete a few.

Hopefully we can take it to UCLA and Furd.
Take what to them? A couple gift-wrapped easy wins for the holiday season?

UCLA lost 49-3 tonight and furd lost 49-22 to a team we beat last week. Anything can happen but it's way too premature to assume the worst for those games.

How do people feel about UCLA game now?

Given what Garbers has shown when healthy and that UCLA has nothing to play for, not too bad.

I suspect that it will be a close one. I kmow - it seems obvious because close games are our general MO. However, the southern branch seems to get up for us in recent yeard, so I doubt that their team will mail it in.
