I'll miss his thoughts on Halloween and his appreciation for videos of monkeys attacking humans.

The Egg Bowl should be fun this year with Leach at Miss. St. and Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss!

Quite possibly, but I'll wait to see who they get to replace Leach before writing their obit.

Didn't he just accept an extension? Does this mean he has to pay WSU?

Pretty sure, without having visited Lubbock or Starkville, he just the left the prettier of the three.

The message is a wasteland in the SEC is far better place than in the Pac, even if you have to pay to get out.

You only have anecdotal evidence for this.

Interestingly, WSU's AD hired Kiffin at FAU.

Leach will get paid big $ for 3-4 years then get fired. Nice way to grab that big retirement package. I don't see this going well.

I also got the feeling he plateaued with Washington state, and his ceiling was to challenge for but fail to attain the division crown.

Could deruyter be a candidate there?

Curious what Leach can do there with more talent. Mississippi State averages 3.2-3.3 * classes... While that's top 1/3 in the Pac-12, it's more in the middle of SEC talent pecking-order. Relatively speaking, an upgrade as his Pac-12 classes were often at the very bottom of the conference.

You will notice that I added no commentary to my statement . I wanted to avoid any editorial observations regarding those three places, especially since I have never been to any of them. Nope, no anecdotes from me!

Let's be real, Corvallis and Pullman are at the bottom of the PAC-12 in terms of coaching destinations, anywhere in the SEC is a step-up.

As for Wazzu, they are kind of screwed, although they were not winning any Apple Cups anyway, so it's a wash really, makes our already soft 2020 schedule even easier.

I actually read some rumors that Graham Harrell (USC OC) is interested. That would be a fairly smooth transition offensively for WSU. If that came to pass, can't imagine USC fans will be happy (that Harrell is gone but Helton stays).

It's a promotion with little pressure, why not go for it?

Absolutely. What kills me is that coaches move to a new job before the Bowl game, abandoning the team.
They shouldn't be allowed to take another job until season is over.

It is a chance to take over a team with an offense that is already structured for the kind of offense Harrell runs, as opposed to taking over for a coach that ran a completely different offense and having to go through 2 or 3 recruiting classes to get the players that fit your offensive system.

I suppose that's also a good reason for Wazzu to hire someone from the Mumme/Leach tree. Harrell, or Seth Littrell, or (heh heh heh) Sonny Dykes.

I would miss Leach if he leaves, but I guess I can watch his best stuff on YouTube, no matter where the hell he is. Leach is the only coach I can think of (well, maybe Steve Kerr) who I would want to spend my time listening to them talk. The rest of them (even our own), I'd rather read the transcript, so I can get through it faster.

I've been to Starville. I think he just barely upgraded, though they are remarkable similar.

Wazzu is toast. This is their apex. The times are a changin' in the North Division.

I poked over to Cougcenter.com to see what their fans were saying, came across an interesting bit that we'll relate to. They were talking about possible HC candidates and Alex Grinch's name came up. (He was the DC that actually put together a good defense there, their recent difficulties seem to be centered about no longer having a good defense). However lots of their fans (including one who purports to have heard this directly from Leach, and another who relates an anecdote about meeting Grinch's wife) said it is well known that Grinch's wife hated Pullman and there was no way they'd return.
