Just finished first four seasons of The Bureau - great French tv show. For those who were into Homeland, this will pull you out of your post-Homeland funk. <grin>

DEVS - A little far-fetched, but an interesting premise. It's set in S.F., so a lot of good shots of the city.

A couple of shows to lighten your mood :
Avenue 5 - This type of humor may not be for everyone, but its' spoof of scifi space shows is crazy.

Upload - A biting satire aimed directly at the tech industry.

All 3 shows are only one season so far, so an easy binge.

Was really reallly disappointed in poorly written big budget HBO stinker Avenue 5, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Stuck in SIP-limbo we're streaming watching the infamous cheesy canadian over the top Lost Girl fantasy / who done it. somehow the characters (middle three below) keep losing their costumes.

/* no longer streamable, darnit, S1 & 2 are NF-dvd only. S3 to 6 dvds shelved in a shuttered public library */

Fave is the feisty sidekick Kenzi, played by saucy euro Ksenia Solo, second from the right posed under a hideous black wig..

today's double-dare challenge is see the 1st 5mins of the pilot without arousing interest, in spite of ridiculous low-def res:

Didn't know Prime has all the Ken Burns documentaries. I've watched all the installments of Baseball, which is amazing, 3 or 4 times over the years as well as The Civil War, which is also riveting. I've also watched some of National Parks and Jazz but am now starting to watch them all in total, starting with National Parks, largely because I'm on a quest to visit them all. I only have 5 of the 8 in Alaska left, with 53 visited so far.

liked festivus express, according to imdb account records, but mostly memories fled.

except for joplin's insane drinking.

snip from the "Lincoln Journal Star"
https://journalstar.com/entertainment/festival-express-a-great-ride/article_7d9d84ba-0970-5a0a-95a4-a0153adb1ee3.html

Quote:

...The drunkenness on the train is also worth noting. Alcohol was the drug of choice on the Festival Express. The U.S. musicians didn't want to bring anything illegal across the border and must not have made a Canadian connection at least in front of the cameras.

The boozing leads to one of the funniest moments of the trip. The train runs dry of liquor. So, in true rock 'n' roll fashion, they stop the express in Saskatoon, run to the nearest liquor store and empty the place..
thanks B.

For those that like shows that are a bit unique, I'd like to add season 1 of Amazon Videos' Homecoming to the list. Not quite top-tier but very underrated, not what I expected, and certainly binge-worthy. The half-hour format makes for easy binging too.

I was reminded of how much I enjoyed it now that Season 2 has been released. So far it looks promising, picking up from the conclusion from Season 1 with all new characters and plot but the same premise.

Half of those aren't national parks. Some are national preserves or national wildlife areas.

The national parks in Alaska I've been to are the most accessible ones: Denali, Kenai Fjords and Wrangel-St. Elias. The ones I've yet to visit are Glacier Bay, Lake Clark, Katmai, Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley. Four of them are only accessible by sea plane and one by a long ferry from Juneau, so they're expensive and time-consuming to get to but I'll get there in the next few years, I'm sure.

There's this new podcast that I started listening to called "Talking Sopranos."

Apparently it's connected to a TV show called The Sopranos. Has anybody heard of it? It's a show about a mobster who sees a psychiatrist. Anyways, I'm on Episode 6 and it's compelling stuff.

The National Preserves and Wildlife Refuges are very primitive and special. That's why they're "preserves". Great for photographers. Part of the pleasure is getting there. The Brooks Range is most impressive.

Take a bush flight out of Fairbanks to many of these places. Check out Coyote Air.

If you've never seen Polar Bears in their native habitat you've got to get to the Beaufort Sea ... Kaktovik, etc.

I've completed my visiting all 50 states and seeing a game in every major league ballpark goals so once I finish with my national parks checklist, I'm sure I'll be looking for more adventures.

I wasn't going to go through five pages to see if it is mentioned, but The Tudors is one of the best productions I've watched. If you enjoy medieval history you will enjoy the lengthy tale of Henry the Eighth. His marriages, his killing of his most devoted advisers and plenty of real good sex, The British production company had to sink a ton of dough into this series....with Showtime's help. It's very well done.

We stream a lot of British shows through Acorn Online, Britbox and PBS. Their detective dramas usually have far more involved plots and twists than American shows. Our favorite, "Inspector Morse", came out in the 90's, followed by its sequel, "Inspector Lewis." We also like "Foyle's War" and for something lighter, "New Tricks." "New Tricks" is a dramedy, a clever combination of drama and comedy. There's also the very long running "Midsomer Murders." You'll never look at those charming English villages the same way again.
What no 'Endeavor'? (Morse's unmentioned first name), a precursor.
Watching "Dead Still" this season (Dublin period drama).
Not the same as "Waking the Dead"
I must be the only one who likes "Vera', old school, old lady detective.
Or for a different British lady detective, 'Agatha Raisin'
'Prime suspect" Helen Mirren as Tennison
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (OK it's Aussie, but they do speak English as opposed to American

Just before there was Monty Python, there was"At Last the 1948 Show"

Not many European shows mentioned
Wallender was mentioned but may have been the English version, not the Swedish.
Rebecka Martinsson if you like blonde Swedish amateur women detectives.

From Up North
Murdoch Mysteries period Toronto version of CSI
The Red Green Show, Canada has rednecks too...

Can't believe I left out Endeavour, fantastic show. We're looking forward to the new season being available over here.

Vera is another terrific show. She's frumpy and grumpy, (sounds like a British comedy team), but smart and compassionate.

Prime Suspect is superb, gritty and dark.

For comedy, I wish The Two Ronnies was available for streaming other than snippets on YouTube. Absolute geniuses.

We also enjoy British travel shows. Two we like are "Vintage Roads Great &Small" and "Walking Through History." The first stars Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy from "All Creatures Great and Small." The second is by Tony Robinson. Fans of "Black Adder," will recognize him.

I liked it. Pete and Bill are funny as usual, but I considered it primarily a serious film, much like an episode of Louie. It is a touching film in that it is autobiographical for Pete. Marisa T. as his mom is excellent. Next up, Spike Lee:
