Warriors vs Kings Game 7 was the most-watched early round playoff game in the past decade.

People like watching Steph Curry.

the Warriors we're used to seeing are the teams that played the first 3 quarters like they did vs the Lakers

... but before the difference was in the past the Warriors would ratchet up the defensive pressure and turn on the hyperdrive offense to win in the fourth

this season there were no 4th Quarter defensive stops and their offense only got to warp factor 2

Worth noting that before last year the Warriors hadn't done a deep postseason run in a few seasons. There was the COVID year when Curry was hurt (no playoffs), and then getting bounced in the play-in the next year. So the veterans were fairly fresh going into that run. There are reasons why it's hard to repeat, as the wear and tear does add up.

Quite amusing that some people feel Jaylen Brown was a bust or overrated at Cal. He played well enough to be drafted third and the lakers strongly considered taking him at 2. You don't get drafted that high if you disappointed in college.

My recollection is that Brown's game was slightly raw, a bit over aggressive, and suffered due to some really bad Pac-12 reffing that simply couldn't account for his athleticism (and rewarded a lot of flopping). Cuonzo didn't coach him up and just let him play. Even back then it was clear that Brown had the work ethic and attitude to craft his game as a pro - reminiscent of the evolution of Kobe's game.

How about last night in Boston Garden?
Sure seems reminiscent of his play at Cal in big games like the Pac-12 Tournament.
With 6 minutes left, he had 17 points and 8 turnovers.

that's what happens when Jaylen is asked to carry the team when the other top player(s) are hurt

vs hawaii it would have ended a lot differently if (especially) Wallace or Bird had played

Same with if Tatum hadn't got hurt on first play of game

Yup.

Brown was a miserable 1 for 6 shooting in that Hawaii game and committed 7 turnovers.
And he fouled out with over 6 minutes left in the game.

Sound familiar with the Big Dogs (Wallace and Bird) out?

That Celtics team is absolutely maddening. How do you stage a furious comeback from down 0-3 to force a Game 7 and then turn in a performance like THAT?

Obviously, it didn't help. But the issue is they are a bit like the 2018 Rockets. They lived and died by the 3.

In Games 1, 2, 3, 6 (Quarters 2-4) and 7 they shot 25% from 3 (44 of 174).

In Games 4, 5 and 6 (1st Quarter), they shot 40% from 3 (37 of 92).

At halftime last night, Charles Barkley said:

"Watching these dumb--s Celtics is making my head hurt... If you just come to a game and say we are gonna jack up 3s and if we [make them], we gonna win, and if we miss em, we gonna lose... it's so bad to watch them play. There's no ball movement. There's no body movement. It's just frustrating to watch a team with this much talent play stupid."

He was spot on.

I also posted (last night on the Jaylen Brown thread) about how Boston was just standing around with no ball movement and jacking up 3's. This is what usually happens to a team that is tired, spent, gassed.

Yes, but they have also basically been doing this all playoffs. Losing their head coach unexpectedly before the season probably had some impact here. Mazzulla seems out of his depth.

A further irony is that not only did they piss away the whole game playing HORSE from the 3 point line. They also allowed Miami to shoot lights out on wide open 3's

Miami's shooting has been weird. They were a bad three-point team all season, but in the playoffs suddenly became the best.

I agree. They shoot way too many threes for how good a shooting team they have. But then I also think the Warriors shoot too many threes.

Didn't see the game, though the box score shows he and the other celtics had terrible games.

Not sure how this changes my post. And I have no idea what you're trying to accomplish in this thread by coming here to poop on JB after he had a bad game.

He was pretty damn good throughout the playoffs. He's an NBA all star. While I don't agree with lots of his opinions, he represents himself, Cal, and the NBA in a very positive light. I respect his intellectual curiosity and willingness to be an independent thinker, more than anything. So why the hate?

Cal could use lots more JB types as students, not to mention on the basketball court. LOTS.

Yeah I don't understand why he is so down on JB. He started by saying JB "may have been the biggest "bust" coming to Cal that I've ever seen." What the heck? JB was first team all Pac12, Pac12 Frosh of the Year, and helped the team to be a #4 seed. I don't get it. But it does make me wonder who we would vote as the biggest bust--an interesting question--but its not JB.

Biggest bust was probably Jelani Gardner who came in highly rated, but it turned out he couldn't dribble and then sank the program.

Jelani Gardner was a McDonald's AA and considered a Top 20 high school recruit. He was considered almost as big a get as Jason Kidd.

Gary Franklin was a good recruit who disappointed, but nothing like Gardner who was expected to step in and fill Jason Kidd's role.

Agree about the difference between Franklin and Gardner, which was significant. But Gardner was overrated -- I say this 25+ years later -- he may have been Top 20, but J-Kidd was Top Three and anybody who followed his prep career could affirm that he was the real deal.

Tremaine Fowlkes and Jelani Gardner were both Parade AA's and were expected to be stars that would keep the team rolling. Tony Gonzales and Sean Marks were part of that class as well. Instead Monty Buckley led the team in scoring and they had a losing record.

The next season Shareef and Gray came in and relegated them both to second fiddles. Neither one lived up to their billing. They were not bad players but both of them were disappointing relative to their hype and finished their careers elsewhere.

I chose Jelani as the biggest bust because not only could he not handle being a role player but he ruined lives as a result.

Jason Kidd was Jason Kidd and when he signed with Cal it was like we had won the NCAA Tournament. It's a shame he didn't accomplish more at Cal in his time here.

Just another excellent example of your faulty reasoning and deflection from the substance of the actual post.

Literally no explanation from you why you hate on JB. Just a bizarre and weak personal attack. Unlike you, I have a life outside of this board and sports which is why I wasn't watching a random game (in which I have no rooting interest) on a holiday.

I have real life outside this board and away from TV, with friends and family who love and respect me (and I them), Given the quantity and tone of your posts here, its a decent bet you have none of those things

Blah, blah, blah, blah....

You were RELENTLESS on the Teri McKeever Thread earlier this year defending her right to justice.
Were you busy with family and friends then?

And now you're claiming to be a fan of basketball, but missed a Game 7 of a Conference Championship with one of your favorite Cal players?

Perhaps had you watched the game, you would have realized who the worst player on the floor was for the Boston Celtics in the biggest game of their season and stopped spewing your absurd drivel. The guy literally disappears in big games. He did so at CAL and he's done it again in Boston.

But you just keep spewing your nonsense like you did in the McKeever thread.

Jaylen Brown is a great player, but definitely still has some flaws in his game (kinda the same ones he had at Cal). I hope he is able to iron out the flaws to some extent, over the next few years, as I am a fan of his. Not sure I would want to be paying him "super max" money, if I were an NBA GM.
