the Warriors we're used to seeing are the teams that played the first 3 quarters like they did vs the Lakers
... but before the difference was in the past the Warriors would ratchet up the defensive pressure and turn on the hyperdrive offense to win in the fourth
this season there were no 4th Quarter defensive stops and their offense only got to warp factor 2

Quite amusing that some people feel Jaylen Brown was a bust or overrated at Cal. He played well enough to be drafted third and the lakers strongly considered taking him at 2. You don't get drafted that high if you disappointed in college.
My recollection is that Brown's game was slightly raw, a bit over aggressive, and suffered due to some really bad Pac-12 reffing that simply couldn't account for his athleticism (and rewarded a lot of flopping). Cuonzo didn't coach him up and just let him play. Even back then it was clear that Brown had the work ethic and attitude to craft his game as a pro - reminiscent of the evolution of Kobe's game.

How about last night in Boston Garden?
Sure seems reminiscent of his play at Cal in big games like the Pac-12 Tournament.
With 6 minutes left, he had 17 points and 8 turnovers.

That Celtics team is absolutely maddening. How do you stage a furious comeback from down 0-3 to force a Game 7 and then turn in a performance like THAT?

There's no body movement. It's just frustrating to watch a team with this much talent play stupid."
He was spot on.

I also posted (last night on the Jaylen Brown thread) about how Boston was just standing around with no ball movement and jacking up 3's. This is what usually happens to a team that is tired, spent, gassed.
Miami's shooting has been weird. They were a bad three-point team all season, but in the playoffs suddenly became the best.Anarchistbear said:
A further irony is that not only did they piss away the whole game playing HORSE from the 3 point line. They also allowed Miami to shoot lights out on wide open 3's
I agree. They shoot way too many threes for how good a shooting team they have. But then I also think the Warriors shoot too many threes.GMP said:Goldener Bar said:Your star player turns an ankle on the first play of the gamesycasey said:

Obviously, it didn't help. But the issue is they are a bit like the 2018 Rockets. They lived and died by the 3.
In Games 1, 2, 3, 6 (Quarters 2-4) and 7 they shot 25% from 3 (44 of 174).
In Games 4, 5 and 6 (1st Quarter), they shot 40% from 3 (37 of 92).

Yeah I don't understand why he is so down on JB. He started by saying JB "may have been the biggest "bust" coming to Cal that I've ever seen." What the heck? JB was first team all Pac12, Pac12 Frosh of the Year, and helped the team to be a #4 seed. I don't get it. But it does make me wonder who we would vote as the biggest bust--an interesting question--but its not JB.BearGoggles said:Didn't see the game, though the box score shows he and the other celtics had terrible games.DiabloWags said:BearGoggles said:

Not sure how this changes my post. And I have no idea what you're trying to accomplish in this thread by coming here to poop on JB after he had a bad game.
He was pretty damn good throughout the playoffs. He's an NBA all star. While I don't agree with lots of his opinions, he represents himself, Cal, and the NBA in a very positive light. I respect his intellectual curiosity and willingness to be an independent thinker, more than anything. So why the hate?
Cal could use lots more JB types as students, not to mention on the basketball court. LOTS.

Jelani Gardner was a McDonald's AA and considered a Top 20 high school recruit. He was considered almost as big a get as Jason Kidd.
Gary Franklin was a good recruit who disappointed, but nothing like Gardner who was expected to step in and fill Jason Kidd's role.

Agree about the difference between Franklin and Gardner, which was significant. But Gardner was overrated -- I say this 25+ years later -- he may have been Top 20, but J-Kidd was Top Three and anybody who followed his prep career could affirm that he was the real deal.

You didnt watch a Game 7 of an NBA Conference Final?
Doesnt sound like you're much of a basketball fan.
tatum's playing about as well as one could ask after that ankle turn. the 11 boards are impressive.
— bomani (@bomani_jones) May 30, 2023
jaylen brown has 15 points on 18 shots and five turnovers. that there is indefensible.
Jaylen Brown should open up a bakery with all them turnovers. His handles are AWFUL. #NBAConferenceFinals

Guys, give Jaylen Brown a break. It's hard to stop turning it over when you already have a margarita for Cancun in your hand.

Jaylen Brown picked a fantastic time to have the worst game of his career.

You were RELENTLESS on the Teri McKeever Thread earlier this year defending her right to justice.
Were you busy with family and friends then?
And now you're claiming to be a fan of basketball, but missed a Game 7 of a Conference Championship with one of your favorite Cal players?
Perhaps had you watched the game, you would have realized who the worst player on the floor was for the Boston Celtics in the biggest game of their season and stopped spewing your absurd drivel. The guy literally disappears in big games. He did so at CAL and he's done it again in Boston.
But you just keep spewing your nonsense like you did in the McKeever thread.tatum's playing about as well as one could ask after that ankle turn. the 11 boards are impressive.

All this, from the guy who called me a Cal Aquatics Recruiting Insider just because I once lived on the same dorm floor as Pete Cutino, Jr in Unit 2 and ran into him on a transatlantic flight 30 years ago.
