It's amazing on the year Celestine has a 47.8 FG%, yet is shooting even better from 3.
I think it's easy for people to nitpick Aimaq - he is slow, and it shows quite easily. But I agree, the positives he brings to the team outweigh any negatives, especially depending on the match up.HoopDreams said:
More capable center?
Yeah, Aimaq isn't a good defender based on matchups but I just don't understand the lack of love on this board
Are you watching this game? He's dominating on both sides of the court
When was the last time you've seen a Cal center do that against a high major ?bearsandgiants said:
Cone just can't help but insist he's the guy from three. We were doing great with his unselfish play, until it flipped. That, and the laziness on ball security, are my only beefs with this team. Madsen needs to lay down the law on those two issues. Secure that ball like someone's trying to steal your infant child. And stop firing up threes if you're not wide open. If this team would abide by both of those, they'd be a tournament team. Hopefully we can get an even more capable center and a point guard next year. Madsen can coach, but he needs players with a bit more basketball iq if he's not going to lay the smack down.
I think Cone needs to concentrate more on driving the ball and taking close range 2s, or passing to open teammates around the basket or kicking out to open 3 point shooters. He had a close range 2 in the first half, it just didn't fall. But this is a much better play than the wild 3 point shots he often hoists (he put up a 3 point shot today as he was slipping!).Big C said:
Hot takes at the half:
Either the announcers didn't get the "Ce LESS tine" memo at the beginning of the season, or they are actively disregarding it.
Speaking of "actively disregarding", it almost looks like the players are avoiding passing to Cone on purpose. While this might not be a bad idea, it seems as though ASU has noticed and they are defending 5 on 4 now.

Anyone else watching the game when Stevin "Headake the Point Shaver" Smith beat the Kidd led Bears in Tempe with a half court hurl buzzer beater?

I'm not a Daws hater, but I do think a lot of people here rate him way above his actual proven abilities. He's a "good" big man who does not have the quickness or reliable scoring in the paint to make him a "great" center who has a chance in the NBA. I appreciate his toughness, rebounding ability, and of course he makes Cal's top ten big men list (not a list full of talent), but yes, there are a lot more capable big men out there and I hope Mad Dog finds one or trains Larsen to become Mad Dog II.

Cone stops the ASU momentum! (For now)

Brown too cool to follow his shot?

The question is can Cal handle the ramped up late game ASU defensive pressure that killed them the last game?

However many 3s we've made today, it's gotta be about 25% of the number we made all of last season.

Aimaq likes curtain of distraction
Good college big men don't grow on trees. Whether they can play in the NBA or not is irrelevant. It will be tough for us to match Daws' production next year.barsad said:
