Jaylon is is good hands with this Bishop O' Dowd success story:

Is he a lock for a roster spot at this point? He's listed as a forward on the Cavs' roster, I would have thought more of a shooting guard, but there are seven of those on the roster. I hope he has a great rookie season.

I thought all first round picks have guaranteed contracts.

I think the team could renounce his rights, but that if they offer a contract it is guaranteed and at a particular value related his positioning. I believe they could sign him and send him to the G league, but the chance of that seems very low given how well he has been playing.

Jaylon had such a great camp and preseason, what do we make of his slow start and, some are saying, a trip to the G League?

Here are a few lines from his ESPN player profile:

"News: 3 days agoTyson (hip) played the final 3:26 of Friday's 136-117 win over the Warriors, missing both of his field-goal attempts and committing a turnover during his time on the court.

Spin: The rookie first-round pick made his first appearance for the Cavaliers since missing the team's first three games of the month due to a hip injury. Tyson remains firmly outside of head coach Kenny Atkinson's rotation and could be a candidate to head to the G League's Cleveland Charge if playing time remains hard to come by at the NBA level."

What can Jaylon do at this point to get some minutes? I get that the Cavs are off to a hot start and they're not looking to experiment with rookies, but I think he can be a great bench player if Atkinson gives him a chance. 5 minutes a game isn't enough for him to show how he can contribute.

Hard to know from afar but they are right now the best team in the NBA. 12-0 and and a ridiculous +12.0 point differential. They go 10 deep, with no one playing as many as 31 minutes per game, and appear to have had no injuries (8 of their 10 rotation guys have played all 12 games and the other two have played 10). It would be hard for many rookies to crack a rotation like that, especially one that is not a high lottery pick. The G league might be a good idea to allow him to develop on the court. If one or two of their wings gets injured, he should be ready.

The depth chart is here: https://www.espn.com/nba/team/depth/_/name/cle. Appears to be competing with Sam Merrill and Dean Wade for spot minutes. I have never heard of either, but they are 28 and 27, respectively. It looks unlikely that he will be a top 4 wing for them without injury, so best to go the G League and improve.

He hasn't played for a while. Now this:

I think the Cavs have 5 or 6 players injured so Tyson started. The only entry for him in the last several box scores has been:
DNP-COACH'S DECISION

"12. As for the Cavs, rookie Jaylon Tyson got his first career start and really delivered. He just missed a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. He may not get a lot of opportunities this season, but the future sure looks promising.

13. Tyson didn't find out he was starting until the morning shootaround. And it wasn't even Atkinson's idea. "The assistant coaches really pushed for it," he admitted.

14. Tyson on how things went, while smiling: "It was a good opportunity for me to show the coaches that I deserve a little bit of playing time. … Once I got that first tip-in, I was like, 'All right, I got rid of the jitters now.'"

*I had forgotten, until I watched this highlights video of Tyson's game against the Pelicans, what a master of the Euro step he is.
