Haase is looking bad now with Kyle Smith having turned Furd around, currently in 5th place in the ACC.

Kyle is one of the best coaches in the country. He could make a lot of coaches look bad.

Why in the hell didn't we foul?
I'm a firm believer in fouling when the other team needs a three. Especially when they're not yet in the double bonus.

On the post-game show Madsen said that he had called for an intentional foul in that sequence at the end of regulation. That's the smart thing to do up 3 with the opposing team having the last offensive possession and only a few seconds. Madsen said an assignment got "crossed up" and it was too late to foul by the time Miami had the ball close to the basket.
The whole sequence was mismanaged in a way that set up the buzzer beater tying 3. Fouling at the end of the game is something to practice, too…. it might have saved us an OT period. But hey, a win's a win.

Those Oski retro shirt/jerseys the students were wearing were legit! Can someone post a photo of the front and back?

Yes, he said they wanted to foul but only if the opponent was facing away from the basket. Facing toward the basket and you risk losing on a four-point play. I think he said they messed up a switch or something and left the guy open for a three and never got the opportunity to foul.

Cal has the benefit this year to have a lot of natural scorers. It really showed today. Plus, we won in front of a great student showing!

Wilkinson and Stojakovic can give you 30 each on any given night

JOJ and DJ can give you 20

Rytis, Mady, Blacksher, and Dort can give you 10+

Sky's the limit offensively. But what I'm most proud of this team is the fact that we were able to close out this game. Justin Wilcox DOES NOT win this game. In fact, justin wilcox has never beaten a winless team. So, Mark Madsen is a blessing to have as our head coach and I will take this win any day of the week. Obviously we need to tidy some stuff up, but our goal should be 16-18 wins this year.

Good student attendance tonight! Did we "do" something to get that?

Otherwise not so good, but if we keep winning our share of games, especially with guys like Wilkinson, things will build.

Back from the game and with a belly full of Smokehouse...

+ Good student turnout
+ Jeremiah Wilkinson!
+ Campbell had his best game as a Bear
+ Dort made some contributions. Having him there to back up Sissoko... we ain't bad in the middle.
+ Mahoney came in and hit two 3-pointers

We seemed to have less defensive intensity than the other night. Miami was getting wide open looks from beyond the arc. We made a few too many turnovers, Boneheaded defense at the end of regulation: we should've applied loose full-court pressure to cost them ticks on the clock. Instead. we were letting them roll the ball down court

Bottom line, we got the win. It would've been a shame to lose this one, after the two previous victories.

hanging up on my wall right now! was pleasantly surprised that it's stitched, instead of a paper jersey that I was expecting. Great job Cal marketing! Student section was fun & took a friend to his first game

The announcer made the band stop playing the alma mater so coach could address the crowd. Incredibly disrespectful to the alumni and the band. I've been to 100s of Cal events. That had never happened before. Not blaming coach. But that announcer really needs to learn that this is college sports, where traditions matter.

Winless means losing for a long time. The only thing Miami learned from losing was how to lose more.Hurricanes Hardly Happen.I could have danced all night.

Seriously. I had just entered Haas before the game yesterday and it was immediately too loud... and it stayed that way. Just turn it down a notch or two; isn't that obvious? And every spare second doesn't need to be filled up. I know they think they're marketing to Gen Z or whatever, but look at who's in the season-ticket-holder seats. I saw kids holding their hands over their ears at times.

This is absurd. It's a basketball game. It's supposed to be loud. Imagine if the arena was actually full. Bring ear plugs.

I guess people feel a difference between Harmon "loud" and piped in music "loud". Because a full Harmon was deafening and lingered for well after the game was over. As I recall, Haas was originally designed to keep the crowd volume up by focusing the sound down on to the court.
RedlessWardrobe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The difference is between natural loud and artificial loud. The piped in music is "artificial " loud To this day , I don't truly believe that this is a relevant difference to the young fans. Either they're going to come to a game or they're not. And to SHS's point, playing it at the games is one thing, but playing it at EVERY silent moment there is is NOT necessary. Even if you support the idea, the constant playing is counter productive.

By far the biggest noise problem is the micman/micwoman's mic being jacked up to 1,000. I think the micwoman does a fine job but her voice with the mic turned up so high could shatter glass it's so piercing. It's just too much.

I agree this is a problem, but the NEVER ENDING piped in music is still the biggest. During timeouts why can't the piped in music play part of the time, Cal band part of the time, and then 45 seconds of NOTHING. is that such a difficult concept?

It almost shattered my head (which is much harder than glass).

Who controls the person who controls the amplifier? I'm sure they don't read this forum.

I still can't get over how one cranky old poster back in the day used the term "piped in music" and it's still a thing here.

There's music and there's the band. The band plays music but no one refers to the band playing music as music. It's the band.

Piped in music sounds like something that came from an RCA victrola with Nipper the dog nearby raising his ear and a flapper doing the Charleston in the background.

I can't believe that a poster can be so obsessed with someone's terminology while continuing to ignore the subject matter of the conversation.

Not aimed at you specifically. Lots and lots of people have adopted the antiquated term here since the original famous "piped in music" rant thread like a decade ago, IIIRC originated by the blocked numbers guy.

I don't mind the music when the band's not playing but it doesn't need to be as loud as it is.

Fair enough. I don't mind ithe music either when the band's not playing, even at its current volume, if once in a while there can be a sequence of NO MUSIC, allowing spectators to actually talk to each other without yelling.

I tried to have a conversation with one of our subscribers at halftime last night and we had to yell as loud as we could to hear each other

So basically, the best solution is to have a little something for everybody. But I guess who's ever in charge of the game day experience can't figure that out.

My season ticket group (including me) cheers loudly. Some people don't even like sitting right in front of us. There's a difference between "passionate fans at a sporting event loud" and "overly amplified, non-stop music / PA loud".

Assuming you have been to games this season and don't object to the volume level, well, I respect your opinion.
