Ali sending Jerry down the road to pugilistic dementia:

Boxing - the tragedy of both of those young men. Makes one think that Bernard Hopkins must be both heroic (given the life he had to overcome to get there) and a genius (for being able to do what he is doing, while appearing to maintain the highest degree of mental acuity) - although he attributes it to being a space alien.

I should have more accurately said "sending each other down the road.." although I believe it was primarily Smoke'in Joe that sent Ali there.

Suck post. Jerry Quarry was a helluva fighter. He landed some big bombs in the two fights vs Ali. Probably helped send him on his own road to dementia

Ass-whuppin', TWO TIMES. Youse guys gotta be kiddin' me. I'm not gonna say Jerry Quarry was a bum, but he was totally outclassed by Ali, Frazier and Foreman. He was a freshman, they were grad school.

Next up: Chuck Wepner - Eye Bloody Eye

One trait that did not serve Jerry Quarry well was the fact that he never lost a fight by getting knocked out. He either lost by decision or TKO. The man would not go down. George Chuvalo was a similar type fighter. He was a human tomato can that got bloodied and battered but would not go down. It shocks me to see that he is still alive at 76 years old:

..at least Cooper floored Ali, that is something for a resume since few did it when Clay/Ali was in his prime or close to it (I was 9 years old and watched that fight on TV). He also died a Knight at age 76.

..yes, but one of his last thoughts before passing into the afterlife, and which brought a smile to his face, was: "I was a carpet bomb laying mother f#cker once upon a time."
