How does a thread about the misfortune of another Pac-12 team get turned around for more bashing of the Cal program and its fans? I'm with south bender on this one: I'm glad we have Martin and right now Cal fans should be enjoying what so far has been an excellent preseason.

Jeez, go ahead and blow it up.
The kids should be paid, so this is already distorted from the get go.

Yeah, paying college kids and making it semi-pro will clean things right up and make things ethical and on the up and up. Or not.

When did the NCAA ever say they were attempting to create parity in college athletics ? That's not their job and you can't take away a kids right kid to go to wherever school they see fit. This is another example of the bitterness of Cal fans and the inferiority complex some of you guys have, because you know damn well if the tables were turned and Cal was competing for National Championships and top ranked classes every year you would feel the same way I feel. Life isn't fair so get over it

Woah, buddy! Man, I must say you have a special talent! Congrats on that!

I never said the NCAA was trying to create parity.
I never said that if Cal was winning like ucla (then) or Kentucky (now) that I'd be against that. In fact, I almost went on to state exactly the opposite, how silent it would be here.

My assumption is that parity is good in sports. Studies show that and its why there are salary caps, luxury taxes, and revenue sharing agreements in the major leagues. I stated how participants work to disrupt parity, by winning, and they will work to tip the scales of competition before the first ball is tossed!

If you are going to be so combatively simple minded as to read the posts I have here and sum it up as an example of my inferiority complex regarding Cal athletics, when in fact I was asking how you felt about the inequalities of coach vs player salaries, then there is no point in my continuing this dialog with you.

Fair point, but you must admit that the current arrangement ain't exactly ideal.
The prior poster who threw out the draft concept (not mine) was merely flippantly submitting one possible solution.
Everyone knows (scratch that - "many people feel") the current deal between revenue generating athletes and university bookkeepers is inequitable. And that inequity helps to create a situation where top talent aggregates to protect their own interests.

I think a better solution exists, and the parity issue is probably the last of my concerns. there win always be winners and losers in sports. Fine. But the losers should not be the highest performing athletes. Maybe a scholarship is a fair trade for a basketball player on the university of Delaware squad - they probably sell enough tickets to cover. But the top 50 schools who make serious coin are short changing their athletes. And the system is designed for that.

80 years ago, school sports were envisioned as an activity that taught players values of perseverance, teamwork, commitment, etc. But that's changed. Now even high schools can sell a good number of tickets such that the focus of programs is not on what the program can do for the participant, but what the participant can do for the school. That's wrong and needs to evolve.

I have mentioned the inferiority complex on numerous post prior to that. The assumption that I used your post meant that I was intentionally singling you out is not using your critical thinking skills, but it's cool. Trust me, I would have no problem specifically singling you out if that's what I wanted to do.

Gutsy effort by your boys against UNLV yesterday. Guessing that's why you're here being such a whiny B at the moment? RAWR!
