To be clear, he admitted the facts constituting...
Quote:

strangulation or suffocation, kidnapping, assault and battery on a household member, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threats to commit a crime, and witness intimidation
I would say it couldn't be worse, but then there is Mariet Ford

Seems like Jabari will be asserting some type of mental breakdown sort of defense.

I agree. I'm not connecting to the Boston Globe with Facebook just to read an article and I'm not gonna subscribe. Just got the info someplace else rather than letting another entity mine my info.

Part of why I root for laundry instead of people.

Maybe this will provide a turning point for him and he'll take his life from this point on in a positive direction. You never know.

I hope so. Seemed like a nice kid when he was here. I wonder if the nba money changed him.

I hope he gets the help he needs. The description of the event is frightening. It could have been worse, he almost killed the girl. It wasn't isolated either.

On a selfish note, I live outside of Portland Me now and was looking forward to seeing him play. It's a sad situation. It reminds me of why Walsh hired guys like Edwards to understand these kids, because he (Walsh) admitted he couldn't.

I notice the article said, "Former Boston Celtic guard...." Does that mean the Celtics are done with him?

They traded him to Hawks, who waived him.

I dunno why you guys don't just paste it for the rest of us.

BROOKLINE Former Boston Celtics guard Jabari Bird on Monday admitted to sufficient facts alleged by prosecutors in a vicious September assault on his former girlfriend, authorities said.
Bird, 24, made the admission during a hearing in a session of Brighton District Court that had been relocated for the day to Brookline. Admitting to sufficient facts is not the same as pleading guilty, but it does expose a defendant to criminal penalties.
Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins's office said in a statement that Bird "admitted to the facts alleged by Assistant District Attorney Khyati Short . . . charging him with strangulation or suffocation, kidnapping, assault and battery on a household member, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threats to commit a crime, and witness intimidation."

Like, duh!
Who in their right mind would do such a thing?
I have already forgiven him, and would give him a second chance. It's a very tragic situation for both of them. Granted I was not there. I did not see or read the exact details. I just don't believe that is who Jabari is.
Best of luck to them both. People do make mistakes. This was a big one.

Jabari Bird now awaits his legal fate.
The former Boston Celtics guard pleaded to sufficient facts in his domestic-assault case Monday in a hearing at Brighton District Court in Boston, according to The Associated Press. Bird faces a litany of felony charges that stem from a September altercation with his ex-girlfriend at his apartment: kidnapping; strangulation; domestic assault and battery; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; witness intimidation and threatening to commit a crime.
Bird, 24, didn't admit guilt with his plea. Instead, he acknowledges a likely conviction at trial. He's scheduled to be sentenced May 28.
The woman was hospitalized and treated for injuries following the incident. She said in a statement read in court "the physical and psychological pain you have caused me will haunt me forever."
The Celtics selected Bird in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft. He split time last season between the Celtics and their G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. He played in the final 13 games of the 2017-18 season, averaging 3.0 points, 0.6 assists and 1.5 rebounds. He signed a two-year, $3 million contract last July.
Bird was on the Celtics roster when police arrested him on Sept. 7. He remained away from the Celtics until they traded him to the Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 7. The Hawks waived him the next day.

I hate when a player I like does things like this very depressing anyway he made 1349000 dollars he's toxic now and you'll never play again in the NBA and it's all very sad and I really feel sorry for the woman that he almost killed this is all just depressing news for me. He can spend the rest of his life living with his mom in Richmond or maybe in a couple of years when all it is settles down and he does whatever time he has to do he'll probably go play overseas for a couple of years but I'm quite sure he'll never be coming back to haas to a standing ovation and accolades from Cal fans

Sorry, Concord, but there are mistakes and there are mistakes. Have you already forgiven OJ? How about Ray Caruthers? True, Jabari isn't a murderer, but could easily have been if the facts alleged are accurate.

Yes, can't argue with any of that.
Very sad.

Well, like I said, I wasn't there to see the ugly details.
Couples argue. Couples push. Couples wrestle.

Entrapment or kidnapping... what did they call it? That could be that he locked her in a room for 5 days, or he stood in a door way and wouldn't let her run out. Uh, sorry, but I've had my wife not want to have an important discussion and she goes to leave and I block the door for a second to instigate her to answer. I imagine that type of thing happens often. "Don't you walk out on me when I'm talking to you!" I can see it in a million movies. "Aw, you are kidnapping me!" Really? Anyways, that's the mildest example, to illustrate a point. I don't know what he did.

Choking: did he have his hands around her neck and was clamping down like in a murder movie? Or were they wrestling and his hands went to grab her and made a mark on the back of the neck. Heck, I dunno...

I realize, it sounds like I'm giving him a hole a mile wide to squirm thru.
OJ and Ray situations were way different. OJ had a knife, and was maybe a crime of passion, but with a knife. Ray's murder was premeditated. With a gun, right?
I do not get the impression that Jabari's situation is akin to those.

Look, I really need to read more about it. But I do not think the details have been released. Just the crimes by name.
Crimes of passion, passion gone bad. ?

Quite a few details have been released, Tom. That's why I wrote what I did. According to the facts that he admitted to, he choked her several times (to the point of her nearly passing out), kicked her in the head while she was on the floor, and she was hospitalized.

Yes. It is horrible. He will (and should) do prison time.

I think the hard part is all of us are having a REAL hard time wrapping our head around the differences in public persona that Jabari had - a kid who was confidence but not arrogant; well spoken; Cal legacy and played the game both well but with a sense of sportsmanship. The now admitted events that went on last year are just 180 at odds with that.

I refuse to be a wanna-be counselor on the internet. I hope that both Jabari and his ex-girlfriend get help.
