Cool, another season of not watching any games.

I will continue to support the fine student athletes who wear a Cal jersey, regardless of who the coach is.
Support how? Purchase season tickets? Donate to the program?

Why don't you reread what I wrote?
OK, just did. Questions still stand.
DIdn't you read what he wrote? He said that he'll continue to support the students by supporting them.
I did read what he said and my question was how would he support them. It's not a difficult or loaded question. I'm genuinely curious what he means by support.

I will go to games when I can, as I have for many years and yes, I donate.

Not deep enough apparently.

I'm sure the students will probably thank you in person for your support next year, as you'll be easy to find in the stands.

He will need a decade before we can fairly measure the results. Team is too young. Freshmen can't even tie their shoes!! Next year might have some speed bumps as a young team learns the speed of the college game, but the year after that I can EASILY see this team almost making the NIT.
I share your same optimism! My only fear is the NIT may not be around in 10 years

Thanks for your response. I feel different than you. I have been going to games for years, but for now I have no desire to support this program. I will continue to donate to football, but no longer basketball.

Cal should have higher standards. If the Econ Department suddenly became one of the worst programs in the nation, I wouldn't donate to them anymore either. Money talks.

Was McNeil transfer in the works before the decision to retain WJ?
yes to the extent he wants to play point. Might have stayed with coaching change if he had that opportunity.

Frankly, I don't think a new coach would have seen him in that role with the other true points that will be on the roster next year.

and thus I think that is fair. Going to happen and DM really shouldn't be at point.

Bigger issue is the lack of Bigs. This is where we are SERIOUSLY missing recruiting hits and where we are going to be in deep deep ca ca for several seasons under the current regime.

You know though - I am done. Paid my 12 duckets to see if any real news on Premium. Nope. Drop it next month. Cal is what it is - a school that excels in being a BDW. Maybe it can - unlike so many schools who want the visibility of sports to drive other things. But that also means that they really can't hold me as a fan - because who wants to invest their emotions into a program which simply is incapable of doing college sports 101.

A team that started to take two steps forward at the end of the season just took a step backwards, which it can I'll afford to do.
What do you mean? In year three all the lessons WJ has been teaching will kick in. They will be a well-oiled machine running the Louisville defense. I am thinking like 22 wins, maybe 23. Am I too pessimistic?

Sluggo

I'm not lobbying for WJ but if you watched all the games this year, I think it is an objective truth that the team improved markedly over the last 3 regular season games and in the Colorado game in the PAC 12 Tourney. Had the Bears played at that level all year they would have had a few more wins. I would have been fine with a coach upgrade although this turn of events may play into my plan to get a discounted seats upgrade.
You seriously watched all the games? I watched three, and it was three too many. My tolerance for horrible basketball is not what it once was. I did want to see the freshmen and confirm that the coaching was as bad as last year. Check and check.

action is in chat. You would have known Jones was coming back a lot sooner and the likely reasons why.

Af for bigs. may be some help coming. We shall see. But a power forward is a (the most) serious need.

I hold out hope that (1) our next year's coach still has a team alive in the tournament and/or (2) Our AD has his resume polished and ready to go. Accomplishments while at Cal: ....................................(?)........shook some hands... made a couple of meaningless rah rah speeches....

As far as I could tell:
  • Uneasy about firing a coach without giving him at least three years to develop his own program, particularly when starting from rock bottom.
  • Wanting to get finances in order, including for a practice facility before trying to lure a new coach.
  • With finances in order, thinking he would be able to go after bigger targets.

All valid reasons, IMO. Just not sure if they are good enough to renew my 26 year-long season tickets.
I would add...

+ Winning the last three conference games gave at least the HOPE that the team is headed in the right direction (obviously, this is debatable).

+ In talking to the players (and perhaps their families), he got the impression that the "core" of the team was still "with the program" and optimistic about next year w/Jones. Maybe 1-2 more transfers, but not Sueing, Vanover or Bradley.

EDIT: Looks like all the above reasons didn't add up to enough, which I totally get.

I WAS a life long Raider fan and as a result I developed an extremely high pain threshold.
Stuck with Raiders initially after move to LA, by THEY were winning. But once that ended and the niera soared, forget about it. Particularly when Davis started to F with Irwindale, taking their money for nothing. By the time he returned and screwed the city of Oakland with the guaranteed PSL money from the general fund, that was it!
He ruined the Coliseum as a baseball stadium, too.

Now they are going to Vegas?
Good riddance!

All Davis, Donald Trump, Hitler, Napoleon....
Any Rand.

I was gone watching NCAA hoops (the other kind, not played by Cal) and came in here to learn that Wyking was fired. Was that in the paid portion? Or perhaps that Jason Kidd will be the new coach?
