Men have two transfers (Will Roberts (SR)& Liam Bell (JR) )
but neither appear to be impact guys.

Who are two new additions to women's team? I'm not familiar with either of 'em...
Mia Motekaitis & Maddie Ward

It also appears that the frosh free style swimmer that swam for the Philippines in the Olympics from Saint Francis HS in Mountain View did not return to the team.

Liam Bell is most definitely an impact guy. He was hampered by a leg injury at NCAAs last year. He'll score in both BR events this March.

New diving coach Oleg Andriyuk not listed on either roster. I assume he is still the coach and he merely was left out. Can someone confirm. Thanks

jimrude-thanks for the correction. I looked at the SEC championships and I was unaware of any injury. I hope that he succeeds at Cal. GO BEARS!

Looks like Bryce Mefford, a 2020 Olympian has decided to return for a 5th year. Texas is still favorite for the NCAA but should make it much more competitive with Bryce returning.

Quote:

okyo Olympic finalist and 11-time CSCAA All-American Bryce Mefford has officially joined the Cal men's swimming & diving roster for the 2021-22 season, a spokesperson for the team confirmed to SwimSwam on Wednesday.
Mefford joins the team as a fifth-year senior, utilizing the extra season of eligibility granted to student-athletes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and bolsters the loaded Golden Bears team as they prepare for the Pac-12 Championships in February and the NCAA Championships in March.
Mefford scored 36 individual points at the 2021 NCAAs as a senior, placing third in the 200 back (1:38.31), eighth in the 100 back (45.52) and ninth in the 200 IM (1:41.86). He also contributed a 1:32.00 leg on the Bears' 800 free relay that finished second.
Mefford's Best Times (SCY)
  • 200 free 1:32.84
  • 100 back 45.04
  • 200 back 1:38.31
  • 200 IM 1:41.86
The Bears, who won the 2019 NCAA team championship title and then remained the reigning champions for an extra year after the 2020 meet was canceled, finished second in 2021 to the University of Texas, 27 points back of the Longhorns (595-568).
After completing his senior year, Mefford had a breakout performance in the long course pool at the U.S. Olympic Trials, qualifying for the Olympic team after placing second in the men's 200 back final behind Ryan Murphy, hitting a monster best time of 1:54.79. He also rattled off three sub-53 swims in the 100 back, placing fourth in the final.
In Tokyo, Mefford finished fourth in the 200 back, recording the second-fastest swim of his career in the final (1:55.49).
Since the Games, Mefford's only swim on record is a singular SCY 50 back (23.30) from Cal's dual with Virginia in October, but he has been training with the team all season.
With Texas coming in as the favorites to repeat as NCAA champions in 2022, Mefford will provide a huge boost to Cal's hopes of reclaiming the title. And with last season's national champ in all three of his events, Shaine Casas, turning pro, Mefford projects to be in title contention in the 200 back and a likely top-eight finisher in the 100 back and 200 IM.
Currently, Cal holds the top-two spots in the nation this season in the 200 back, with sophomore Destin Lasco (1:39.24) ranked first and fellow fifth-year senior Daniel Carr (1:40.09) in second.

January 20th, 2022 Coaching Changes, College, Pac-12
David Marsh is headed to Berkeley to assist head coach Dave Durden with the men's collegiate team at Cal until the NCAA Championships. A formal announcement with more details about his title and role is expected on Friday.
Marsh returns to collegiate coaching two years after resigning as the head coach of UCSD in 2019. Marsh spent two seasons leading the Tritons, who ended up finishing 10th (men) and 6th (women) at the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships.
Marsh is currently the head coach of Team Elite Aquatics in San Diego, California, and the 'Professional Adviser' of the Israel Swimming Association. In addition, he coaches the LA Current during the ISL Season, who most recently finished 4th at the 2021 ISL Finals.
Marsh developed Team Elite through his role with SwimMAC Carolina, a position he held for nearly a decade. As the CEO and Director of Coaching of SwimMAC, he was able to develop a group of elite athletes that generated 14 Olympians for the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Games.
In 2016, Marsh was given the role as 2016 Head U.S. Women's Olympic Swim Coach. Under the guidance of Marsh, Team Elite put more athletes on the 2016 United States' Olympic swim team than any program in the nation. If Team Elite were a country, they would have placed 4th in the medal standings in Rio. Some of the most notable athletes in that group include Ryan Lochte, Katie Meili, Kathleen Baker, and Anthony Ervin.
Marsh is arguably most known for his stint as the head coach of Auburn, where led the Tigers from 1990-2007. In his tenure Auburn amassed a record-setting 12 NCAA Team Titles, 7 on the men's side and 5 on the women's side.
Notably, Durden was a former assistant under Marsh at Auburn from 2002-2005. Durden was on staff for six of the Tigers' NCAA Team Championships, with the men winning in 2003, 2004, and 2005, and the women winning in 2002, 2003, and 2004.
Marsh will assist Dave Durden, Chase Kreitler, and volunteer assistant Matt Martinez with the men's team. Cal is currently seeded 2nd on the CSCAA Top-25 Polls and features three Olympians on their varsity roster: Hugo Gonzalez (Spain), Robin Hanson (Sweden), Bryce Mefford (USA), and Bjorn Seeliger (Sweden).
Kreitler and his wife are expecting the birth of their child in February, which opens the door for Marsh to come in as an assistant under Durden.
