I watched a segment on NHK World about how the Russian propaganda machine is working overdrive and how it is slowly starting to change the narrative of the war. Of course, we see examples of that here on a daily basis.

In the piece they examined several YouTube videos and pointed out how they were faked/staged.

They also went through the comments section and pointed out how many of the comments were tied to known Russian troll farms.

Of course this isn't new and Ukraine does this, too, but I would think that people that went to Cal would be skeptical enough of this sort misinformation that they wouldn't flood this channel with it.

I know we all just can't wait to sign in every day to see what else Colonel McGregor has to say.

What you're dealing with here is known in psychology as a case of cognitive dissonance, or the difficulty in processing contradictory information. You`re presented with a large amount of facts in the form of actual videos, but are unable to process them as they not only diametrically oppose your perception of the situation, but go beyond that, challenging your basic personal belief system.

So all these videos above of Ukrainian men being forced into vans by aggressive roaming gangs of soldiers must be fake, or staged, as confirmed to you by the NHK. Ukraine good, Russia bad, double plus bad, Vlad Putin is a meaner version of Emmanuel Goldstein.

I must have posted several dozen actual footage of Ukrainians being forcefully conscripted, there is a fresh batch getting published online every week, and all these have been filmed and originally posted by Ukrainians who are helplessly watching their neighbors and family members being forcibly shipped off to the meat grinder.

Yeah I went to Cal, for my masters too. I have had the privilege of growing up and travelling to many countries at a young age, staying open to different perspectives, reading sources in several languages, keeping contact with people from around the world on a daily basis.

The map is helpful, thank you. I thought it was already announced that after joint military excercises, China left its 'unused' ammo with Russia.

I assumed China and its hostage, North Korea, would supply Russia.

I stopped paying attention to walls of videos and/or Tweets being posted, especially without any summary provided. That isn't just limited to this thread or posts by certain individuals but I only have so much time to wade through what could potentially be bull*****

If you think these videos are the truth then maybe you should alter your presentation style by focusing on the best sources and providing summaries. Throwing a bunch of crap to the wall and seeing what sticks isn't a good way to make a point. More isn't always better.

If he gave just one or two first person sources, then you'd claim that anecdotal evidence doesn't prove anything. It is tough to argue something that the media has boycotted.

I wasn't planning on posting any of the usual items, but Colonel Douglass McGregor made an interesting historical point about the DC war machine.

In June of 2019, Iran shot down a US $110 million surveillance drone we sent along the Strait of Hormuz. We claimed it was in international air space. President Trump's advisors wanted to strike Iran back.

I checked, and The Olde York Tines claims Trump approved retaliatory strikes. In retrospect, it sure looks like many were cheering for military involvement.

Colonel McGregor credits President Trump for keeping us out of that conflict. Credit he doesn't get.

You're right. I don't trust many first person sources in this situation. It has to be someone I trust.

To be clear, NHK didn't say all of these videos are fake. What they said is that a lot of videos are fake. That's probably true.

I can tell you that if there is a story to be had some legitimate news source will eventually break it. A bunch of random Internet posts aren't very compelling.

The footage is all that matters here.

And the fact is, you will find out more about what's really happening in Ukraine from this kind of footage than from MSM editorials and reports, the great majority of which amount to gaslighting.

None of the media sources you trust blindly are telling you that:

-Ukraine has been losing ~8 men for every Russian lost in this war

-its army is getting routed in the biggest battle of the war right now, with somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 soldiers being slowly encircled in Bakhmut.

-Ukraine has been using chemical weapons delivered/dropped by quad drones

-Ukraine has had to resort to chasing and capturing men 16-60 to fill their staggering personnel losses

All of these facts have been relayed on social media by these "Twitter luminaries".

Once again Trumpers show how bad they are with numbers and data. During Trump's Presidency. China's GDP growth continued the same downward trend that began in GWB's 2nd term. The only difference is that Trump was receiving money from China.

The time it would take to gather different people, in different places, to stage such shots, to keep others at bay, shut down streets, put on the production... all for twitter accounts that don't get much traffic? Doesn't make sense.

Some of the other one-off videos? Possibly.

Especially when they take existing footage from other events and edit it and then use some CGI on top of it. It is all pretty easy to fake and that was what NHK was showing.

I am not going to claim to know what is fake or not, but the idea is that each side can flood social media with so much disinformation that it becomes hard to determine what reality is. A healthy dose of skepticism is required.

What always amazes me is that people who believe that MSM media is lying to them or is part of some giant global conspiracy have no problem believing what some wacko with Photoshop and too much time on his hands slaps together as journalism. Hence, people believing that Satan worshipping pedophiles gather at a pizza parlor. However, if NYT prints something it is obviously all lies. LOL!

It's the perfect addition to the firehose of falsehoods and no different from how climate change deniers claim that there is no climate change but if there is it's not caused by humans and if it's caused by humans we can't do anything about it. Now they'll say there isn't a war but if there is it's not Putin's fault and if it's Putin's fault we should let him win because NATO/woke nazis/WEF/WKRP in Cincinnati.

I can only presume that if there is a heaven and a hell catturd1 is looking up with pride.

Can you link the catturd2 tweet? I can't find it. It is a pretty active page though. I am curious what he or she says about there not being a war since your image doesn't reflect that and the repeated tweet is cut off.

Very first hit on Google when searching for that quote and catturd2:

Thank you. I thought there was more to the quote given U2's spin job. I am guessing the USA involves more media in wars involving US troops as opposed to proxy wars, so we are generally going with a Western/ Ukrainian viewpoint of the war without a ton of media coverage.

Yes, that is the obvious answer. The US is not actually in this war, so US media is not heavily embedded with the troops like they would be with actual American troops.

The climate changes. Duh. Has there been an out-of-the-ordinary change in temperatures? No.

But for arguments sake, let's believe the Warmists. OK. There is something we can do - the gold-standard IPCC report lays it out.

1. The world needs to build 1,000 nuclear power plants - no CO2 generated - which would still only have a minor effect on temperatures. IPCC report.

2. Dramatically embrace clean Natural Gas. NG is the primary reason the USA dropped CO2 emissions by 15%, topping Europe's efforts. Real-world results.

Many Liberals are against both items. In CA, they actually want to ban gas stoves!

(Some argue the recent economic slowdown and inflation was purposefully engineered to assist this 'green transition' - as solar panels and bird-killing wind turbines can't power robust growing economies efficiently.)

There is a long history of Alarmist thinking - Global Cooling, ozone hole, etc.

Possibly 35,000 Ukranian troops trapped in a nightmare position in Bakhmut as all majors roads cut off.

^Yeah it's been a mild winter in Europe luckily enough.

35.000 would be the entire Ukrainian force in and around Bakhmut, the ones that risk encirclement are maybe around a third of that - still a very large number. Ukraine has to manage their withdrawal if they want to minimize lives lost, or a politically embarrassing mass surrender, considering that the general public has not been informed of the lopsided nature of this battle.

The Russians haven't completely encircled Bakhmut yet, but they're getting very close to the last two roads out of the city, allegedly 800m away from the main one. This is the Wagner map from yesterday:

The Russians are using a classic Russian military tactic, which dates back from the Mongols, of leaving one road out for an encircled enemy army in order to be able to attack retreating forces and to minimize losses fighting an enemy with its back to the wall.

He is responding to U2 who went there in his usual grand wordy, slippery slope, conflating arguments. See below.
