LOL, a lot of "believe one number but not the other number" from the same source going on in here. I find it very hard to believe that Ukraine would still be standing if they'd really been losing troops at 6 to 7 times the rate of Russia. This claim does not pass the smell test.

They have a pool of around 5-6 million men, and have been straining to replace their losses. The number of Ukrainian war amputees is estimated around 100,000, which validates estimates of KIA around the half million plus range.

As Ukraine unofficially counts as many as 100,000 amputations among its population since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, a uniquely experienced next generation of prosthetics specialists and supporters is stepping up to tackle this challenge.

I looked up some numbers from WW1, Germany had 2 million KIAs and 67,000 amputees, UK 900,000 KIAs and 47,000 amputees. The fact that Ukraine has a very large number of war amputees, up to 100,000, does support the 700k KIA estimate above.
It's the low number of Russian casualties you claim that doesn't make sense.

I'm not surprised if it is higher than 700K. McGregor was saying they had 700K KIA over a year ago.

The last few months have been particularly difficult for Ukraine in terms of losses, due to the stubbornness of Zelinsky in doubling down on Kursk and not retreating in other fronts where his army was in a precarious position. This being said, I doubt it is much higher than 700k, that is already a staggering number.

If Trump can produce a compromise and settlement with Russia, he will have saved at least 100,000 Ukrainian lives.

It's pathetic that, just as they were on their way out, the Biden administration is only now recognizing that Ukraine will have to make territorial concessions to end the war.

Hey, shouldn't this thread already be replaced by the "Official Post-Russian Invasion of Ukraine Thread"? Because I thought ya boi Trump ended this war yesterday or the day before, or the day before that, or something.

Why are people still talking about this war as if it's still going on? We won't be in another war* until the Dumbocrats or the Neocons get back in power, right?

Let's get this war, which never would have started if I were President, over with! We can do it the easy way, or the hard way - and the easy way is always better. It's time to "MAKE A DEAL." A lot of internal divisions on Ukraine shaping up especially in E. Europe, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Austria want this war to stop, as well as the leading opposition in Germany. Italy will flip as well with Meloni lining up with Trump.

Each day that the war continues, the art-of-the-deal guy looks more and more like a man of broken promises / false claims.

Big surprise, eh?

Day 3. Meanwhile, your guy was on duty when the war started, sabotaged the peace deal, destroyed Europe with sanctions, put us on the brink of WWIII, transferred tens of billions of dollars that can't be accounted for, pushed Russia into the arms of China, etc etc and was no closer to peace 600 days into the war than when it started. The deeper hole, the harder it is to dig out of.

Also, Blinken scuttled a push from General Milley to work on a settlement when Ukraine had the upper hand after Russia withdrew from Kherson and Sumy. Milley correctly assessed that Ukraine was not likely to be in a better position to negotiate, and he was correct. Blinken shut it down. That was just 9 months into the war, in November 22. Since then a half million Ukrainian troops have died, those deaths are on him.

Trump to his credit was the only head of state to acknowledge that the deaths on both sides were regrettable and that the carnage had to be stopped. He might not be able to pull off a deal because the Russians now have the upper hand and won't settle unless their conditions are met, but it looks like he will give it a good shot, which his predecessors never did.

Trump explicitly stated he could have the war ended within 24 hours. He even said he could get it done before he was sworn in.

But he continues to choose not to use his magical powers, and has now stated it may take as long as 100 days.

Was he lying? Or was he stupid? Or maybe both?

It's starting to look like neither Ukraine nor Russia really wanted to stop fighting and come to a deal, as we've been saying.

I was just taking a gratuitous shot at Trump and all of his claims of what he is going to do and how fast it's going to happen.

If we're doing "real talk", I think the Biden Administration, working with NATO, made a series of highly justifiable decisions on this unfortunate situation. What were we going to do, let Russia overrun Ukraine and annex it? The west successfully balanced resistance-to-Russia with conflict containment (even though the result has not been a success).

I will say, the past couple of years, if Biden/NATO passed up solid chances for a territorial treaty and egged Ukraine on to keep fighting, I would be against that. Hopefully, it is Ukraine itself (as represented by its govt,) that has wanted to continue.

The biggest mistake, made a long time before Biden was President (or even VP), was to get Putin's panties all in a bunch by threatening to admit Ukraine in NATO. That was just rubbing his nose in the fact that Russia lost the Cold War. Pointless and counterproductive.

Succinct, spot on. I'd also add decimated the military stockpiles of NATO and EU countries; huge reduction in US stockpiles; and rejected an Inspector General in charge of Ukraine monies.

Reportedly up to 50% went sideways, Ukraine / C-A graft. And how much came back to Congress? Or is that chiefly lobbyist contributions and military junkets?

Like Ronald Reagan before him, Democrats tried to smear President Trump as a warmonger; he actually went on to sign five Mideast peace deals and should have gotten a real Nobel Peace Prize (Obama got a fake one).

Now after Biden facilitated the death of over one million men and stopped the Istanbul peace deal, his supporters are trying once again to smear our most peace-oriented leader in decades. Look beyond the useful bluster, positioning, and strategy.

Trump signed 5 peace deals, had peace talks w North Korea, had Iran in check and no new wars.

That might also be the "official" figure passed on from Ukraine, taken at face value for political purposes.

Total Russian casualties (killed and wounded) are still pretty high though, around 300,000, which is a pretty big number. At that level though, they can still replace their casualties and keep growing their army ranks with just their stream of volunteers.

Also made up by Trump:

The Russians have been working on hypersonic missile technology since the 1980s, they didn't steal anything there from the Obama administration, they built on the breakthroughs of French plasma physicist Jean-Pierre Petit in the field of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) propulsion. The US was not interested in that field because US military doctrine has been based on air superiority, which was more than enough to dominate opponents like Saddam's army. Today the Russians are 5 years ahead of China in this field, and 10 years ahead over the US, which is just now trying to catch up.
