The Parliamentary system works differently than our version of Democracy. They always have irregularly scheduled elections. Also, the North was largely in tact and not invaded during the Civil War and the entire US as intact during WW2 so it was relatively easy to run an election. Ukraine's infrastructure is in shambles, many of its citizens are in Russian occupied territory and many of its citizens are abroad, all due to the war.

That is where they could be headed in a decade or two, not unlike the path of say S. Korea or Taiwan, which were very authoritarian governments (much more so than the current Russian system) up to the 00s. The Russians' current government is also a bit like Singapore's, which has effectively had a one party system for over 50 years now IIRC.

How about a free and fair election where Putin does not kill, jail, and intimidate his potential opponents? That would be a good start.

And Putin came to power because he was supported by the Oligarchs. He killed/deposed the oligarchs who opposed him. He's hardly an argument in favor of fighting for the good of the common man.

His Vice President is JD Vance, not Pence.

Pence is the archetype of the dysfunctional, out of touch, decrepit GOP establishment.

The same people who think Ukraine is winning the war also think Putin is going to take over Europe.

I never warmed to Pence, too stiff and inauthentic.
