It's ridiculous to think a deal to end the war would be announced today. People are actually believing everything Trump says. Still, meeting with Putin is much better towards that end than not meeting with him.

In that case, he should simply do nothing so as not to distract folks from those things. How horrible of him to continue to do his job!

He did nothing. He did give an international pariah and war criminal a ride in the Beast, good job, way to go. He didn't have a high bar to reach and due to the lack of info on what they discussed or any type of agreement they came to, he didn't even reach that.

You assume he did nothing because he didn't end a 3.5 year war. Assuming makes an ass out of you.

You would assume wrong, it's not because he didn't get an agreement there was little to no chance he would get one given Putin's track record. If by chance he did get an agreement to stop the war, what idiot would put any faith in such an agreement given that he has broken every agreement he has entered in to.? The problem was the big Cheeto gave a war criminal and an international pariah, a stage, so Putin could rehab his reputation and that of Russia which legitimizes them. They are a gas station posing as a super power, with a GDP equal to that of Texas. They got up one morning and decided to invade their neighbor under the guise of getting all the nazis out and saving Russians. They bombed civilians, maternity hospitals, train stations, killed children, shot old people in the back, committed war crimes, and kidnapped 20,000 Ukrainian children. So I think rolling out the red carpet for this idiot was wrong and accomplished nothing. Also, since you assumed to know why I thought it was a bad idea, and were wrong, I guess that makes you an giant ass.

I didn't assume anything. You said he did nothing. Full stop.

Also, if Russia were just a gas station, Ukraine, the second largest country in Europe (other than Russia), backed by billions of dollars of NATO weaponry, would easily be able to repel them back. That clearly isn't happening. We don't have to like Russia, but we do have to take them seriously.

Since you obviously have some insight please tell me what he did? Let's not get cute, you made reference to assumptions and asses. We're all smart enough to figure-out the intent of the mentioning, so let's not clutch our pearls.

Russia is the 4th largest economy in the world PPP, it has passed stagnating Germany and Japan earlier this decade.

Texas or California for that matter don't have much in terms of heavy industry. Russia produces 3 million shells/yr, 3 times more than the US, NATO and other allies (Japan, S. Korea) combined. They are doing that without even disrupting their peace economy.

They have not targeted civilians, this war has been highly unusual in the low percentage of civilians killed, less than 1%, versus well over 50% in the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"President Trump on Saturday split from Ukraine and key European allies after his summit with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, backing Mr. Putin's plan for a sweeping peace agreement based on Ukraine ceding unoccupied territory to Russia, instead of the urgent cease-fire Mr. Trump had said he wanted before the meeting.

Skipping cease-fire discussions would give Russia an advantage in the talks, which are expected to continue on Monday when President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine visits Mr. Trump at the White House. It breaks from a strategy Mr. Trump and European allies, as well as Mr. Zelensky, had agreed to before the U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska."

He can't stop the Ukraine war in 24h, this was pure Trump bluster, but he might well stop it in his first year, and he is at least trying, which the previous administration never did.

Trump could stop the Gaza genocide in 24 hours though, but he doesn't, and I'm the first to criticize him for that.

Trump is looking to ink a peace agreement in a few weeks, if I read the tea leaves correctly.

0. Trump-Putin meeting
1. Zelensky to the White House
2. Then a trilateral meeting - the peace deal?

Backdrop:

- Ukrainian lines collapsing
- Ukraine fighting w grandpa's and youngsters
- Ukraine / NATO still can't produce surge level ammo and missiles
- Israel and Ukraine dramatically reduced USA stockpiles
- Europe hasn't and can't fill the gap
- Germany gradually imploding
- Russia now producing 1,000 drones per day (Ukraine also reportedly has strong drone production)

Question to the guys opposing this summit and even the idea of open negotiation with Putin, what do you propose the US should do with this conflict, should we continue to arm Ukraine, and watch them lose 30,000 men/mo. getting steamrolled fighting to the last Ukrainian as the Russians move west slowly but surely (and increasingly faster)?

The outcome of this war under the status quo is beyond doubt, there is no military solution for Kiev, why not cut our losses and Ukraine's, and put together an Istanbul Plus type of agreement this year?

The GDP of Texas in 2024 was $2.709 trillion dollars in 2024 its GDP ranks higher than Russia's making it the 8th largest in the world. The GDP of Russia in 2024 was $2.098 trillion. I'm using absolute size as the comparison when using GDP.

Yes Russia is producing a lot of shells but they're having to import workers from another countries after depending on North Korean artillery shells which often malfunctioned. Europe and the U.S. are seeking to increase production of artillery shells specifically the 155 mm shells. Europe's capacity went from 230,000 shells a year in 2022 to over 1 million in 2024, with a goal of producing over 2 million by 2025. The U.S. has a goal of producing 100,000 155 mm artillery shells a month by the end of 2025

You are absolutely wrong if you don't think that Russia is targeting civilians. They are bombing cities, maternity hospitals, civilian infrastructure, apartment buildings night after night. They have targeted civilians so often that the charges being investigated are for indiscriminate attacks on civilian targets including schools, hospitals, and residential buildings. Then there's the major charges for war crimes which consist of unlawful deportation of population and the unlawful transfer of population. Guess what part of the population they are talking about? They're talking about the 20,000 children that were kidnapped. I call that just one more way to target a civilian population on top of firing missles at civilians. There is no one with any expertise in war and its effects, who doesn't think that Russia is targeting civilians. The disparity of the deaths of civilians when compared between Russia and Ukraine say different.

  • Armenia and Azerbaijan Peace Agreement (August 2025)
    • Description: On August 8, 2025, Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House, where they signed a peace framework agreement to end decades of conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
    • Key Elements:
      • The agreement included a commitment to cease hostilities, open trade and travel, establish diplomatic relations, and respect territorial integrity.
      • A major transit corridor, named the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity," was established through Armenia to connect Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave, with a U.S.-selected operator managing it for 99 years.
      • The U.S. repealed Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, enabling closer ties with Azerbaijan.
    • Significance: Described as a historic breakthrough, the deal aimed to resolve a conflict spanning over 35 years. However, some critics noted the agreement's reliance on mutual trust and the need for credible international guarantees to ensure lasting peace.
  • Thailand and Cambodia Ceasefire (July 2025)
    • Description: Following deadly border clashes that killed dozens and displaced over 260,000 people, Trump claimed to have spoken with both leaders to push for a ceasefire, mediated by Malaysia.
    • Details: The ceasefire was fragile, with both sides accusing each other of violations shortly after the agreement. Critics questioned the extent of Trump's involvement, while supporters highlighted it as part of his peacemaking efforts.
  • Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo (June 2025)
    • Description: A U.S.-brokered peace agreement was signed to end decades of conflict, focusing on joint security coordination and respect for borders.
    • Details: Trump's administration emphasized economic incentives, including U.S. access to Congo's mineral rights, as part of the deal. The agreement aimed to reduce hostilities but faced challenges due to the region's complex dynamics.
  • India and Pakistan Ceasefire (May 2025)
    • Description: Trump announced a U.S.-mediated ceasefire following a major escalation over Kashmir, described as the most intense since both nations became nuclear powers.
    • Details: The four-day crisis was de-escalated with Trump's intervention, and he offered to mediate the long-standing Kashmir dispute. Pakistan's government nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. However, Indian leaders disputed the extent of U.S. involvement, and critics noted the ceasefire's fragility.
  • Israel and Iran Ceasefire (June 2025)
    • Description: After Israel launched attacks on Iranian nuclear sites and Iran retaliated, a fragile ceasefire was brokered following U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities.
    • Details: The 12-day conflict ended with Trump's mediation, though analysts expressed skepticism about the ceasefire's durability. The deal was seen as a strategic move to prevent further escalation, with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif praising Trump's efforts.
  • Other Agreements
    • Egypt and Ethiopia: A peace deal was brokered to address tensions, likely related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam dispute, though details remain limited.
    • Serbia and Kosovo: A ceasefire or normalization agreement was facilitated, though specifics are sparse and the deal's stability is uncertain.
    • Israel and Gaza (Proposed, July 2025): Trump announced Israel's agreement to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept. The proposal aimed to facilitate negotiations to end the ongoing conflict, but no final agreement has been confirmed.
