I wonder if these are the same people that claimed that schools in OREGON were putting LITTER BOXES in the student bathrooms for the "Furries".

How utterly stupid can the GOP be???

My Fox News in-laws called my wife last night to have a very serious talk. I think we probably all knew the talk was coming, but you never quite know the circumstances.

The call was about drug dealers giving away free candy-colored Fentanyl to children. Fox News has them very concerned that their grand children will OD on Fentanyl this halloween so they wanted to make sure we knew to go to the police to have our candy tested lol.

Imagine opening up a box of whoppers and seeing fentanyl that is completely indistinguishable from regular chocolate covered malted balls, as you can see below.

I know my in-laws, like many GOPers, are real fuzzy on how the economy and businesses actually function, but do they really think that drug dealers would rather give away their best product in order to kill American children rather than selling it to willing customers? Maybe years of worshiping Trump has made them all as bad at business at him, I don't know.

What I do know is that we're now going to have to "test" all of our kid's halloween candy. The only test I can trust is my own taste test but it's a challenge I'm willing to take.

I will note for anyone with a poorly functioning brain who has trouble understanding information like this, there is a big difference between targeting young people for drug sales (like the tobacco/vape companies do) and giving your product to 5 year olds masquerading as halloween candy. Nowhere has the DEA claimed that drug dealers are giving away Fentanyl to elementary school children. What they've claimed is that drug dealers are making it look like candy to appeal to the audience they are trying to sell the drugs to in exchange for money. Pretty important distinction, and one that was the focus of my post and most other rational discussions of this imaginary halloween problem.

I can assure you that most republican parents aren't afraid of a massive amount of fentanyl pills in a bulk Whoppers box as your picture indicates, which I believe is from a smuggler. Rather, parents are generally concerned because just a tiny bit of fentanyl can kill someone and fentanyl is being made to look like candy. It is that combination that makes it simply something to be weary of in your community, especially during Halloween where candy is given out by strangers and is around everywhere. I definitely agree it is nothing to be hysterical about. It sounds like you have a hysterical family.
Let's make a bet. I say that not a single child dies from Fentanyl given by a drug dealer on Halloween to trick or treaters this year. If I'm wrong, I will never post in OT again. If I'm right, you never post in OT again. Easy low-stakes bet to make.

I think we both know you won't agree to it just as we both know that this is a craven political attack meant to serve the GOP, just like they've done with "caravans" in the past. There is no halloween story here but you are playing your part.

If I'm wrong, take my bet. What do you have to lose?

Child goes to the ER or hospital during the week of Halloween caused by ingesting fentanyl disguised as candy. I will take that bet.

Interesting that I first discovered this story from a liberal family member who is a physician with children and attended a top university.
Does anyone remember when conservatives were fear-mongering about fentanyl for Halloween?

My in-laws visited this week and brought us a CPR kit because Fox News has them very concerned. I think we managed to avoid trick or treating at cartel houses last night but we haven't "tested" all the kids' candy yet.

What's the next hoax?

Well people haven't finished their halloween candy yet, so we need to give it some time. Maybe the cartel houses that were giving away fentanyl whoppers told all the kids to save their fentanyl candy for last.

The whole notion is as preposterous as the conspiracy theories about Paul Pelosi, but even after those have been debunked there are still GOPers on BI spreading them. I mean, ffs, morons are still pretending like 2000 Dead Horses is legitimate. As I posed earlier, GOPers are happy to have a narrative and the facts don't matter.

They will just make up facts and pretend that kids are in litter boxes at school eating fentanyl candy. It's been a long time since they've let reality intercede in their messaging.

I read Vance's book, Hillbilly Elegy, a few years ago and liked it. I didn't get the impression that he was an aspiring right-wing politician, just a guy telling the story of his youth. This was a guy who seemed to care about ordinary people. Then he went into politics and things went downhill: He sold a tiny bit of his soul to the devil with every successive move he made, I guess in order to stay alive in Donald Trump's GOP. I'd be curious to know what he really believes now, if anything. Can he see how he's "evolved"? I hope he gets waxed in the election, but I can't help but feel that, deep down, there's a human being in there somewhere... or there was.

Yes, we do know what happened. I posted exactly this.

You then twisted it into me saying that kids were going to die from Halloween candy laced with fentanyl given out at a drug house, which I was being goaded into supporting while I was supporting that parents have a legit concern over all about fentanyl making its way into candy with candy being everywhere during halloween. I almost got goaded into betting what you wanted me to bet, but I didn't.

Because you and diablo are liars, you post things like I welched and stuff like that. You are absolutely full of yourself. You are a master of reframing what others say and what really happened to support whatever crusade you are on. It is messed up.

oski003 said:

Halloween candy is okay, exception being an actual fentanyl user knowingly ingesting it.[/qopte]

2.5 hours later at 7:28 PM he is claiming that he was "goaded" into a bet that he never intended in the first place. HJahahhahahahaaaaa!

oski003 said:

Since no response and I am being goaded into something I never intended in the first place, I am going to back out of this. Yes, it is extremely unlikely that someone will be unknowingly injured from fentanyl laced trick or treat candy. On the other hand, it is something that parents should be aware of, especially around Halloween season where candy is more prevalent. U2's family was being hysterical.

You do a wonderful job reading my posts despite bragging every couple of days that I am on ignore. Yes, I said I'd take a bet and then rescinded such a couple hours later before U2 accepted such because I was being pushed into something I didn't intend by two lying internet bullies. Please look up the word Welch and enjoy your Porsche.

Sure, I'll take this bet. Just so we are clear - it needs to come from trick or treating.

Oski rescinds at 7:28 pm.

He wanted the fentanyl to specifically come from trick or treat candy. I refused to agree to that because my original argument is and has always been awareness of fentanyl (and other drugs) being in candy, especially given the shear amount of candy around schools during Halloween. Your reading comprehension is very poor.

Here is a related story. After a quick internet search, I also found a story from yesterday of an American freshman in high school unknowingly eating a candy marijuana edible. Nothing on fentanyl specifically.

This is from Canada.

As a parent of young children, I do have to be aware of this stuff. I don't have relatives who are crazy lunatics like USucks' family, but we also don't bury our heads in the sand. I don't watch Fox News. I watched the fentanyl candy story on more liberal outlets.

Edited to add that I am glad you consulted a dictionary and used the word rescinded instead of welched. You were sounding like a child who didn't know the meaning of words.

Unit 2, I'm not really surprised.
I even wagered that he'd "back out" of it . . . even though he himself defined the bet's terms.

And no apology or admission that he backed out.
Sad really.

After I rescinded the bet, Unit2 said he accepted it. It is what it is. Everything I said is true, unlike what you said. Have a wonderful day. Enjoy your Porsche.

Yes he both complains that I goaded him into a net and that I didn't respond fast enough after he accepted the bet.

We can all see who the liar is.

Agreed.

All he had to do is apologize to you. But I guess he's not capable of doing so.
It's comical that he claimed that he was "goaded" into a simple bet; one in which he defined the terms.

It's sad that his posting name is the mascot of this fine University, but cant make good on his word.
Makes you seriously question anything that he's ever posted here.

Let's suspend disbelief for a second and assume that this isn't a right wing sicko perpetrating a false flag operation.

This has literally nothing to do with the original fear-mongering by right wing media, as amplified in your pre-halloween posts. No one ever claimed that there would be individual bad actors tampering with individual pieces of candy. That has always been a risk with halloween - and there have been numerous instances of it throughout history. There is nothing unique about it being fentanyl, except for the fact that it may have been inspired by all of the disingenuous fear-mongering.

This started because people claimed that we should be very concerned of candy colored fentanyl streaming in over the border. The purpose of the drugs being candy-colored is to appeal to younger consumers (think teenagers). There was no connection between that and halloween candy and there is no connection between that and the incident 003 linked to. Zilch, zip, nada.

The other fear-mongering was around the cartel smuggling fentanyl in through candy boxes - we saw the whoppers box at LAX filled with small pills. Again - there was never any connection between that and halloween and there is no connection between that and the incident 003 linked. Zilch, zip, nada.

Accepting halloween candy from strangers has always included an assumption of risk around bad actors tampering with and including poison. Here's an example from Ohio in 2021 but if you look around there are even more disturbing examples.

Just like with caravans and other election-year fear-mongering we've seen the last few years from the GOP, the entire candy-colored fentanyl scare was a right wing psyop. There was never any risk in relation to the underlying facts (drugs are smuggled in lots of ways, including in candy boxes, and some drugs are colorful in order to appeal to young adults and adolescents). This is nothing new and 2022 did not present a heightened risk.

003 is just proving how incredibly disingenuous he is and making excuses for the fact that he once again fell prey to an obvious right wing misinformation campaign.

Again, this is what I said

"I can assure you that most republican parents aren't afraid of a massive amount of fentanyl pills in a bulk Whoppers box as your picture indicates, which I believe is from a smuggler. It sounds like you have a hysterical family."

As a parent of young children, I do have to be aware of this stuff. I don't have relatives who are crazy lunatics like your family, but we also don't bury our heads in the sand. I don't watch Fox News. I watched the fentanyl candy story on more liberal outlets. You are much closer to the fringe than I am. Stop being a revisionist. Have a wonderful day.

Not only did he fall prey to an obvious right-wing misinformation campaign,
but he clearly WELCHED on the bet that he made with you.

Here are the FACTS in evidence on this thread as confirmed by the posting timeline:

1.) He posted misinformation.
2.) He entered into a bet with you.
3.) He defined the terms of the bet.
4.) You accepted those terms.
5.) He then claims he was "goaded" into the bet.
6.) He welched on it.
