Before we throw an entire demographic group under the bus, I'll point out that your chart shows 1 mass shooter for every 1.4 million trans people. That's not a very high rate, though I do agree that the results of each instance is very sad and deplorable.

There are reportedly 2.8M trans people in the US over age 13. Notable mass shooting by trans/gender fluid people include Annunciation church, Nashville Christian, Lakewood Church, Colorado Springs, 2019 STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting, Aberdeen and Iowa HS.

I guess a lot of folks must've really gotten an adrenaline rush, hearing reports that this shooter may have been transgender! Okay, even better, they could've been an SBG*, but this is probably the next best thing!

Good question. No, Dems are p@ussies and are never going to rifle up. Under Obama and Biden, the wingnuts loaded up for door to door urban combat as well as guerrilla insurgency in the countryside in case those Administrations passed laws forcing them to kiss a g@d d@mned tr@nny or wear their pants too low.

Trump now faces the danger of p@issing off these militia sh@it kickers because someday they are going to figure out Trump was just funn'in them about relatin' to them and that he actually had contempt for them all along. If there are enough of them like MTG and some of the MAGA folks screaming at their representatives at town hall meetings, Trump may regret all that weaponry they are sitting on. Dr. Frankenstein's monster turned on him, you know.

Do you have any experience with firearms?

If you explain how that is relevant to the issue being discussed, I'll answer the question.

You have posted multiple times about AR15s. You brought it into the thread / discussion.

My perspective: guns are not going away so we have to look elsewhere to eliminate these tragedies. I'm convinced there's a mental health component to this, very likely tied to social media. If there are subsets of society that are at greater risk then we can introduce safeguards. There are other subsets that could be looked at similarly.

We've been getting there slowly but surely since the Patriot Act, and it looks like Trump is also pushing in that direction.

Whitney Webb's full tweet:

" I've warned about the pre-crime push to "stop mass shootings before they happen" for years, especially during the first Trump administration.

I don't think it's a coincidence that this happens just as the full extent of the Epstein-Thiel-Carbyne911 relationship is being revealed.

I wrote about Epstein, Thiel and Carbyne as well as Trump's previous pre-crime push after a spate of 2019 mass shootings (which then-AG William Barr, who launched a DOJ pre-crime program called DEEP, seemed to predict in an odd speech) together in the same article.

Check it out below and don't fall for the latest tragedy being used to coerce you into signing away your remaining freedoms to a pre-crime surveillance state."

Nope. AR15s are semi-Auto .223 rifles that look like M4 military rifles. That means one bullet for each trigger pull. The military rifles have burst mode, which is fully auto - 3 rounds discharge with one trigger pull. I think the military rifles have a very slightly different caliber too.

This line of discussion will either show we share common ground or that we don't have a lot to talk about:

Measures frequently opposed by Republicans:

Universal background checks: For years, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R. 8), which would require background checks for all gun sales and transfers, has been passed by the House but blocked in the Senate by Republicans. The NRA and Republican supporters argue that expanded background checks primarily affect law-abiding citizens and would be ineffective at stopping criminals.
Your thoughts:

Bans on assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines: Democrats and advocates have repeatedly called for the reinstatement of the federal assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004, and a ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. While most Democrats favor these bans, majorities of Republicans oppose them. Bills to reinstate the ban have passed the House but stalled in the Senate due to Republican opposition.
Your thoughts:

"Red flag" laws: These laws, also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), allow law enforcement to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed a danger to themselves or others. Republicans have generally opposed federal red flag legislation, with critics citing concerns that the policies may strip due process from gun owners.
Your thoughts:

Bans on bump stocks: In June 2024, Senate Republicans blocked a bill to ban bump stocks, which was introduced after the Supreme Court overturned a Trump-era administrative ban. Republicans argued that a ban would affect law-abiding citizens and that the Supreme Court's ruling should stand.
Your thoughts:

Closing loopholes in background check laws: Republicans have frequently blocked legislation aimed at closing specific loopholes:

The "Charleston Loophole": This loophole allows a gun sale to proceed if a background check isn't completed within three business days. A 2021 bill to close it passed the House but was blocked in the Senate by Republicans.
Your thoughts:

"Ghost guns": Republicans have voted against legislation aimed at cracking down on the sale of untraceable, self-assembled firearms.
Your thoughts:

Restricting gun access for those with specific dangerous histories: Republican-led efforts have blocked legislation to prohibit firearm access for people on the federal terrorism watch list ("No Fly, No Buy") and for individuals with temporary restraining orders for domestic violence.
Your thoughts:

Increased accountability for gun dealers and manufacturers:
Republicans have added policy riders to spending bills that block funding for the implementation of rules aimed at cracking down on gun dealers who commit violations.
Efforts to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which grants gun manufacturers broad immunity from liability, have also been blocked.

My reaction/opinion is that most of these items are talking points of people who mean well but don't know much about firearms. I tried not to make that assumption about you by asking repeatedly but you chose not to answer.

My test is something like this:
1. Would the proposal have prevented the shooting we are reacting to?
2. Does it have a reasonable probability of preventing future shootings?
3. Does it unnecessarily infringe upon our C rights?

I started to answer each of your line items individually but it was getting quite long and ultimately fell within the three part test, above.

I have a working theory that something has changed in society and it may be related to cell phones and social media. I note an unusually high preponderance of these shooters expressing feelings of isolation or grand unhappiness with society at large. In years past we'd hang with a friend, listen to an album and talk stuff out. Now people hide in their rooms, go to echo chamber social media sites and watch videos. That is either literal or intellectual isolation and it is not good for the human species; it is really unhealthy and doesn't give people a chance to work through emotions. Also, there is also something going on where people feel like they are going to teach society a lesson by doing the mass shooting. I am not sure I can quite articulate it but it ties into something I observed while coaching with this current generation and the way they process offenses. Anyway, I need to find the time to research it but my hypothesis is there's a correlation between these technologies and the increase in mass shootings.

I've been noodling on how we can address it. Mandatory mental health screenings at annual physicals and tying that to Red Flag Laws??? Restricting access to cell phones by age??? I don't know, but my instincts tell me the solution set is heavily in the space of people and our society.

To my point about Assault weapons not being a real thing…

Item 1 is the black AR15
Item 2 is a wood stock Ruger "Ranch Rifle"

Which of these rifles is more lethal?

Answer: it's a trick question. Both rifles are magazine fed .223 rifles with identical functionality. The AR15 has a collapsible stock, pistol grip and appears to be ready to accept a scope. But none of that changes the fact these are functionally exactly the same rifle. Yet one is an assault rifle and the other isn't. It make zero sense.

It makes you pine for the good old days when people with mental health issues simply shot themselves …..now many insist on a real life first person shooter video game experience before they go out.

*This is sad societal commentary, not humor. You can rest assured that the mass shooter, in addition to having an arsenal of weapons, had one of violent video games as well. Not a great combo.

2. Widespread / early use of marijuana
3. Widespread use of prescription meds for youths
4. Growing numbers of children w no Father's in the home
5. Lack of belief / moral code

Harvard Health: Teens who smoke pot at risk for later schizophrenia, psychosis

Google AI: "Heavy or chronic marijuana use during adolescence can cause long-term, potentially permanent damage to the developing brain. The adolescent brain, particularly the prefrontal cortex responsible for judgment and decision-making, is especially vulnerable to the effects of the drug.
