003, crime is down. Inflation has been on the decline for the past two years. From a high of 9.1 in July 2022, to where it was in October 2.4. Homelessness is up but do you honestly care about homeless people? Eh, they're gonna get bulldozed anyway.

I would say that we are in the midst of a post truth society. Social media, partisan news outlets. Your assertion about crime. Crime IS down. Stats can be provided. But it doesn't matter. Because your belief that crime is up is based on emotion. Or Haitians eating pets. Didn't happen. Emotion makes it true.
Crime is not down. Inflation has risen and is tapering off. Of course the rates will slow after going up year over year astronomically.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/much-grocery-prices-increased-since-140029491.html
Crime statistics are skewed because so many jurisdictions changed laws to decriminalize or not prosecute certain crimes. On top of that violent crime went up in 2022. News of the revised statistics demonstrating that fact probably has some psychological effect of convincing people it has also gone up in 2023 and 2024. Part of it is factual, part of it is impression.

What inflation is doing today - eg, a month over month reduction - is relatively irrelevant when you are facing the cumulative effect of 2-3 years of increased prices. People live this every time they go to the grocery store. It is a serious problem for the incumbent party.

Ok, you're doing this again. Post truth. My own stats. My own echo chamber. Crime is down.

https://www.voanews.com/a/fbi-data-shows-violent-crime-down-for-a-second-consecutive-year-/7795119.html

And we are not talking about just grocery prices, we are talking about the price index as a whole.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/273418/unadjusted-monthly-inflation-rate-in-the-us/

You're proving my point. Truth does not matter. If the inflation rate is down, to you it really isn't. If the crime rate is down. No, it really isn't.

But this is pointless. Again, congrats on your victory.

We have had 1 year of acceptable inflation after 2 years of crazy inflation. Please see the other posts on crime. I do agree that violent crime is down. However, property crime is rampant in my city, and the police are having trouble controlling it due to liberal policies and laws.

One year of acceptable inflation. So, the highest the inflation rate was under Obama was 3.8% in 2009. Under Trump, it was 2.1 in 17 and 2.4% in 2018. 2019 it was 1.8%. Throw out 2020 because that was covid. So we're at 2.4 right now, from a high of 8% in 2022. Under GWB, the rate only went below 2.7 twice. So, now you're adding "one year of acceptable inflation" to the metric. That the 2022 rate was halved and then halved again in two years is really nothing short of remarkable given how European economies are faring.

As far as property crimes, it is interesting that the "metric" for whether something has increased or decreased is always "pre-pandemic levels". And though property crimes are down (with the exception of shoplifting), none are at pre-pandemic levels. And I honestly believe that this, psychologically, is where everyone's head is at. They want everything to be pre-pandemic. And any rise in anything will get "I want it back to the way it was before". Such is the way of things.

I'm sure you are right about this, but I think social science shows that historically it takes a year or two for people to normalize to whatever the new inflated prices are and no longer consider them "too high." Not enough time to help for the current election.

Though I don't particularly blame Biden for this. High inflation hit everywhere after the (necessary) COVID stimulus. Sometimes macro trends just kill you.

No, Trump won because D's 4 years in power gave us economic hardship and increased crime / homelessness. This is demonstrated in any number of polls indicated 70% of people saying the economy is bad and the country is headed in the wrong direction. Harris' answer to those strong headwinds was to tell us Trump is a Fascist and to promise unfettered access to abortion. Those are the reasons she lost.
Disagree. Crime is down. Violent crime is down. DOJ stats prove this out. The economy is good. Inflation is down. Unemployment is down. But, none of these economic benefits seem to be filtering down to the working and middle class. But, relitigating this is pointless. I would have to agree that Trump framed it correctly.

Crime is not down. Inflation is starting to taper after 2 years. Stock market is good. Corporations doing well while small business suffer. Unemployment is down relative to where is what during a once in a lifetime pandemic. Homelessness is up.

Ok tell yourself crime is down, while it's not down. Blue cities essentially stopped reporting crime and people stop calling in crime to the police because there's no point waiting 6 hours after you've been robbed or beat up just for the cops to tell you there's nothing they can do but make a report that will go nowhere.

Also, the American people felt lied to. We were told Biden was not having cognative difficulties. Even after the disastrous debate, all the Dems were still on board. Maybe Democrats will understand that their policies are absolutely ****ing everyone but the mega rich?

Wage stagnation? -1m jobs for American born labor, +3m jobs for foreign born labor? No, that's not xenophobic. My mom is "foreign born." But when I hire Indian and Chinese h1b, it is good for my budget, and bad for the voters here.

When you let in millions of illegals, it also depresses wages.

When you spend trillions on borrowing, it depresses wages.

While *****ing about inequality, Democrats somehow drove policy that exploded inequality. Driving it absolutely through the roof.

Tax breaks for the rich? Since Trump's tax cuts the 1%

In 2012, the top 1% paid 38.1% of federal taxes. In 2016 the top 1% paid 37.3% of taxes. In Obama's second term the top 1% share decreased.

In 2020 after Trump's tax cuts for the rich, the top 1% paid 42.3% of taxes. That's above 45% now.

While he did that federal income tax revenue increased, pretty dramatically.

You can argue deficit, but arguing he isn't getting wealthy earners to carry more burden is counter factual.

The Trump tax cuts created the highest share of revenue from the top 1% in 30 years. Maybe 50.

Maybe we need to educate the elites on what normal people's lives are like. What 20% increases in prices feel like when you don't have 50% disposable income. What electricity prices at 45 cents a kwh feels like when your wages are depressed by jobs shifting to people who just came to the country.

Maybe they noticed that, despite a massive effort to gaslight, crime was rampant and unchecked? Or honestly, maybe people would have been ok with it, if it was at least discussed as a real problem, not a right wing conspiracy. I voted the most conservative I have in my life this year because of crime and terrible economy (again, large net loss of jobs for Americans is horrendous, even if we have lower wage foreign worker jobs available) specifically being dismissed as not a real problem, but a conspiracy.

I have had $15,000 of claims for theft in the last year. That's not on the news. That's real life. Even if it only cost me $800 in deductibles, it cost me $3,000 in premium increases.

The reality is Democrats need to decouple from ridiculous niche social issues, and ****ing govern. Abandon the progressive idiots and back real Democrats that care about our the other 99% of people.. because the 1% they are pandering to also care.

Or at least admit there are problems to solve... The gaslighting by the left has to stop or the backlash will keep coming.

* Promised to hire "the best people"; fired 3/4 of them, then labeled them the worst.
* Promised to reduce prescription drug prices; didn't happen, President Biden did.
* Promised to win the trade war with China; it cost about a quarter million jobs.
* Promised corporate tax cuts would benefit workers; corporations used the money to buy back stocks instead.
* Promised to revive the coal industry; more coal jobs were lost during his presidency.
* Promised to drain the swamp; He was the swamp, January 6th insurrection and his Fake Electors conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election proves it.
* Promised to release his tax return, didn't.

The only group Democrats made progress with is white men and women (+1 and +2%) and people with a Bachelor's... They maintained the margin for people who have graduate degrees.

The only increase for Democrats was rich white people.

Democrats lost ground with every single other demographic. Literally.

Just think about what party you are backing, and what demographics you think you are fighting. Democrats can gaslight all they want, but the policies they are pushing are only bringing over rich white people.

Maybe... Just spit balling, to win, look at why all those people switched to Trump. It's not ignorance, it's not bigotry (unless minorities are the new white supremacists)... It's because Democrats have abandoned their platform in favor of extreme progressivism.

* Promised to build a wall; completed only 458 miles out of 2,000, mostly repairs.
* Promised Mexico would pay for the wall; they didn't.
* Promised a new healthcare plan; it never existed.
* Promised a middle-class tax cut; primarily cut taxes for the rich, leaving the middle class to bear the burden.
* Promised not to play golf; made 250 visits to his own golf clubs, costing taxpayers $150 million.
* Promised to increase economic growth by 4%; didn't achieve it, President Biden did.
* Promised an infrastructure plan; had none, President Biden signed a massive one.

Out of curiosity, what do you think should be in the new Democratic platform that was not before?

Harris ran on vibes, celebrity endorsements, name-calling ("convicted felon", "fascist"), debunked hoaxes ("very fine people"), and platitudes ("democracy"). She would neither defend the Biden-Harris record nor say what she would do differently. When she did talk about specific issues, they were often stolen from Trump (child tax credit; no tax on tips; border funding).
