I'm glad Nancy was able to attend Trump's address.

You basically just did the thing I described above. You said that Trump doesn't really mean it when he says he wants a third term. In other words, don't believe him when he says the obviously bad thing. Just trolling!

Then you argue that the laws would not allow it. I actually agree with that, he would almost certainly be blocked. But that doesn't mean he doesn't want to try. I believe him when he says that.

Post 2028, during the State Of the Unions, Trump and Vance will just switch seats and Vance will be doing all the talking.

Like you said in another post, the Democrats are choosing the wrong side of every 80/20, 70/30 issue.

But as someone who would prefer they lose the next elections, I encourage Republicans to keep their heads in the sand on this one. Doing the same thing the Biden team did in ignoring all the polls and hanging on too long. Good luck with that!

The Biden team ignored the polls and the Democrats ignored their primary election results.

Based on the reaction of the Democrats, some people are saying this address was Trump's best speech ever.

Yes, and the split on people who watched the speech was heavily tilted towards Republicans. People who really dislike Trump didn't watch it.

I agree.

The entire rub here is this war can't go on forever, the world seemingly wants US boots on the ground as a peace assurance because they rightfully don't trust Putin but we (thankfully) are refusing to do it.

An ugly truth is being brought to the surface - our NATO allies suck. It is one thing to complain that nobody ever really pays 2%. But now we have learned they can't raise sufficient forces between the 31 of them to secure the eastern border of a regional neighbor. That is really pathetic and demonstrates that we are not in fact partners; the US is their protector and we pay for the privilege. They do things like let us use their land for bases which provide their defense but we have to give them foreign and and do things like hire civilian locals to work the base for the privilege.

They buy American weapons by the tens of billions, but yeah, the relationship is dysfunctional.

I was just informed that all use of Government Purchase Cards must cease immediately. There are no exceptions even for emergencies or to pay invoices for services already rendered. Additionally, services not critical to health or safety are halted. Hell of a way to run things.

Just to be clear, I don't have a Government Purchase Card and have no input on purchasing, except to point out when we're running out of something.

There is a 4 point delta between speech approvers (76%) and non-D participants (80%). So generally speaking nearly everyone who wasn't a D liked the speech.

D's just don't get it...for as much as Trump is an asshat personally vast swaths of non-TDS Libs agree with his policies, etc.

So basically, the people who actually wanted to watch the speech liked it. Okay. I mean, this is pretty standard for SOTUs these days. Biden's first address got even better numbers. It doesn't mean anything about where this is going.

When Trump was reading his lists of government waste and Soc. Sec. payments to the people over 120, you could just feel it resonating with a lot of people across the land. How much of that is factual info, I don't know. Surely less than 100%, but we live in a post-fact world now.

Yeah, from what I hear, the Social Security database is written in COBOL (1950s or 1960s programming language). COBOL defaults to a date in 1875 when a date in missing, so that erroneously generates 150 year old people in 2025. Back when COBOL was developed, those dates would have made them around 85, which was quite possible back then.

Well, I seriously doubted the Social Security "facts" that he recited, but my point was that a lot of people watching at home probably bought into it. Some people still don't believe that a POTUS can just flat-out lie like that. Later the truth trickles out, but the damage has already been done.

Ain't that the truth? That is the strategy the GOP has embraced more and more since Gingrich. Republicans may now lie more often than they tell the truth.

It's no longer labeled the "The Russian Hoax." The new term is "Trump's Russian Sell Out:"

Breaking it down: Trump has made at least five Moscow-friendly moves in the past two weeks.

1. The White House asked the Treasury and State Departments to identify sanctions on Russia that could be loosened as part of the process of improving relations, Reuters reports. Trump didn't deny that yesterday, telling reporters: "We want to make deals with everybody."

2. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly ordered U.S. Cyber Command to suspend offensive cyber and information operations against Russia.

3. Trump has called for elections in Ukraine, and he and his allies suggested after the Oval Office spat that Zelensky might need to go. Regime change in Kyiv was one of Putin's original objectives for invading.

4. The U.S. voted with Russia and 16 other mostly authoritarian countries to oppose a UN resolution last week that condemned Russia's "aggression" in Ukraine.

5. Suspending weapons shipments, which the Trump administration had already dramatically slowed, is the latest dramatic step
Axios

"The new administration is rapidly changing all foreign policy configurations," the Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, told a reporter from state television. "This largely coincides with our vision."
