You know, in all of this I'm reminded of the San Francisco school board shenanigans we talked about here a few years ago. They got into trying to rename schools because they thought some of them were named after racists or slave owners or whatever, and even when presented with evidence that they had made some glaring mistakes (stuff like "You had the wrong guy named Sanchez") their response was just to double down and move forward while insisting the process was sound. Everyone is walking on eggshells. We are under orders to refer any callers asking about firings or a government shutdown to the Public Affairs office in Washington DC. We've gotten some supportive comments on social media, but we aren't allowed to reply, not even to say "Thanks!" or give an emoji. I was on a conference call last week and someone asked how my office was doing and if we would have to cut back on services. All I could say was "I'm not allowed to talk about that." I did say we would continue to provide the same services as in the past, though I suspect it's far from a sure thing.
