True, but there were consequences for the Far Right group members* that took part in planning of the the Insurrection and battered the police and the Presidential pardon power undid those consequences, and that is the point of the article. You raise another issue.
The media is claiming that many of these guys will be a danger* to their victims that testified against them. I, on the other hand, fantasize that some of the battered on 1/6 are ex military with SOF training, or they may have friends, family or sympathizers that do, and it may turn out that some of the violent January 6 offenders would have been safer in prison than hitting the pavement. Some of the cops may still feel raw about almost being killed by cowards that out numbered them by the thousands.
*" Trump pardoned Enrique Tarrio, the fascist Proud Boy leader convicted of seditious conspiracy and serving a 22-year sentence in federal prison for coordinating the attack on the Capitol from outside Washington.
Trump also commuted the sentences of 14 extremist members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers convicted for plotting to violently overthrow the U.S. government and keep Trump in office."
