Silver lining: Porsche may switch Taycan production to the US.
Honest question.
Won't that take 2 years to execute?
I will jump in here to say that demand for a high-end EV like the Taycan has been slipping.
Porsche shows that sales of the Taycan were down 37% year over year (2024 vs2023) and it's hard to fathom investing in production of this car here in the U.S. for such a niche vehicle in its line-up when Porsche enjoys much higher cost efficiencies making this vehicle in Germany.
Porsche's biggest seller by far is the Macan, followed by the Cayenne.
25,180 and 22,432 vehicles respectively.
As some may be aware, Porsche just recently introduced the EV Macan here in the states.
But there is a big price difference between the EV and the gas-powered version.
Range is roughly 300 miles.
The gas powered Macan has been a massive seller in the Chinese market.
But China's continued weak economy and increased competition is becoming problematic for Porsche there.
Could they make some Taycan's at their existing Chatanooga plant that makes the ID.4 for North America?
Sure.
That would most likely be the path.
But again, why invest a ton of capital in the U.S. towards production of a niche sportscar type vehicle?
The base Taycan starts at $100,000.
The Taycan 4S from $120,000. The Taycan GTS $149,000.
The Taycan Tubro from $175,000 and the Taycan Turbo S from $210,000.
