He's definitely an opportunist, for sure, and kind of too slick. But he's not an Epstein friend, client or entangled in blackmail. The other thing here is that he was the first Democrat to criticize the Iran war. It's kind of amazing that no other major D figure has come out and done that before him, he or she would have scored a lot of political goodwill.
He's criticizing Israel as an apartheid state ( his words) because he's caught up with the base which will make this a seminal issue in primaries- he didn't denounce Israel when they were conducting genocide, only when he realizes that being pro Israel is a losing issue with primary voters who are more anti- Israel.
Yes of course, he is an opportunist. But I am also noticing that he was the first major Democrat to jump on that opportunity to score points with the base.
Neither AOC nor Bernie called Gaza a genocide, until fairly recently, and to my knowledge they did not come out and denounce the bombing of the girls school. This despite the fact that today over 3/4 of Democrats do not support the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Ultimately, yes, Newsom has a large proportion of big donors who are rabid zionists, but unlike Trump or even Bill Clinton, I don't think he's compromised and potentially blackmailed. Newsom is a guy who grew up rich and had "normal" affairs with adult women, did not associate or get mentored by dark creeps like Roy Cohn, who was a kind of Epstein figure before Epstein, and also a pedo predator. Cohn was Trump's mentor, and Trump knew exactly who Cohn was, as he knows what Epstein is all about.
