I'm more curious about Newsom's plan to increase the supply of gasoline in the State instead of what he thinks of global EV production.
CARB is expected to consider a proposal in May to update the state's "cap and invest" program (formerly "cap and trade"). The state legislature rushed to renew the CARB program (signed into law by Gray Davis) that was set to expire in 2030.
CARB wishes to slash the number of carbon credits companies can buy and impost tougher emissions caps thru 2030.
20% of refined products come into the state from Asia.
70% of the state's oil supply is shipped in from other countries.
90% of registered cars in CA still rely on gas.
Given that so much of Asia's crude oil comes thru the Strait of Hormuz, it's quite possible that they will cut down on their export of refined products to CA. Relying on foreign imports of gasoline is clearly problematic given the war with Iran.
We've also seen two refineries in the state shut down that accounted for roughly 20% of gasoline supply.
Valero and Phillips 66 which refined 284,000 barrels per day.
I'm more curious to learn how Newsom is going to fix this supply/demand issue.
Because if it doesn't get fixed soon, Chevron will most likely shut down in 5 years here in CA.
We also have 32 military bases in CA.
Including major airbases like Travis which are dependent on jet fuel.

Newsom is all wet here. Edison took the ideas of others and improved them, and then took the ideas for his own, patenting them under his own name. I had the same thing happen to me when I was doing desalination research at Cal. Nikola Tesla was more of an inventor than Edison. What Elon Musk may well be is the Nikola Tesla of our times, not the Edison of our times.
