Jerry Garcia famously stated that rap is "not music," defining it instead as "talking in meter" with rhyme and rhythm. In a 1990s interview, he clarified that while he had no personal issue with it, he did not consider rappers "great musicians" because, in his view, the art form lacked the potential for infinite musical growth found in traditional music.


Garcia's best songs had lyrics written by somebody else. Im a fan of his and Hunter's music but he shouldn't criticize something he was unable to do.

It's a dumb comment. Rap is rooted in an oral tradition that predates " music"

Trump made a similar claim last month about China, forcing Canada to stop playing hockey which he still hasn't explained.
