The only time Trump isn't stupid is when it comes to thinkin' up schemes to line his pockets. That being the case, my guess is that he is aware that California contributes a significant portion, roughly 14-15%, to the overall US economy. He can't get his beak wet in the money generated by the Red states where his supporters dwell. He knows that if he dents Cali too hard, the Red states will become an even bigger financial anchor around the neck of the Republic than they already are.
Watch Trump to be more sound bite than actual bite. He knows what side his bread is buttered on.

It is worth remember this started with ICE executing valid search warrants at multiple locations. That means they went to court and were able to demonstrate to a judge that probable cause exists for illegal conduct. 44 people were detained by ICE. Anti ICE protesters blocked ICE agents from leaving with the people detained subject to the lawful execution of search warrants, and engaged in violence toward LEO, such as throwing rocks at vehicles.

The administration followed legal proceedings. It detained/arrested criminals. It reacted when protesters interfered with ICE's ability to perform its lawful duties and then acted violently against LEO, AND when local leaders refused to act in a timely manner to safeguard those LEOs.

Bass and others said the above was designed to sow terror in the community. She and her ilk are ****ing crazy.

I believe you are mistaken. The recitation of events I listed was taken from publicly available sources.

Your linked article is not specific to LA. Also, more than 1 thing can be simultaneously true. ICE was executing valid search warrants and potentially being creative about collateral arrests. The latter does not negate the former. This is like entering a home to execute a search warrant and finding two other people cutting a large volume of coke. They get arrested too.

Collateral "arrests" are perfectly legal AND appropriate. Note that "arrests" does not necessarily mean criminal proceedings. It also means civil detentions and deportations for immigration violations.
