We need to not kid ourselves about Iran with talk of taking off the head of the snake. They are not rolling over because they lost missiles and people. Their leadership is a bunch of religious fanatics. Unless/until we get inside those mountain facilitiies they'll have ongoing ability to develop nukes. Don't be surprised if X number of days from now a nuclear weapon explodes in a port or on a bus (ie delivery method changes).

AI will be probing us 3 times a day for a year to relieve its boredom before sending our corpses to the Soylent Green factory before that happens.

This is the kind of stuff other neocons preached ad nauseum about Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria the past several decades. How did those work out?

Fox reports that Iranian media reports they've downed 2 Israeli jets and captured one female pilot. Edit: now reported that Israel denies the report

Live reports are covering Iranian missile attacks. The first wave was 100 missiles, @5-7 hit. 2nd wave underway

So we have literally started WW-III using Israel as a proxy.
Got it.

As I said above, if you make these types of chicken little claims, you need to show your work.

In your imagined WW-III, who is fighting with Iran besides the Houthis? What other countries are in favor of Iran having a nuclear weapon.

Oh, so Trump was aware of this terrible idea to attack Iran. Great.

I'll ask again - do you contend that the world is better off with a nuclear armed Iran? That is the alternative to this war.

Trump's smart. If this all blows up he can just blame the Jews.
I realize you are being cheeky but there's truth to it at some level. The US gets to enforce Trump's 60 day timeline; Israel gets to attack Iran.
I never agree with Anarchistbear but this is spot on. Israel does the dirty others want and need but can't or won't pull the trigger on.

Because you live in fantasy land. The IAEA confirmed Iran is working on a bomb and is frightening close. That is beyond doubt.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/12/world/middleeast/un-iaea-iran-nuclear-program.html

The world has been negotiating with Iran for decades. They have lied about their intentions (claiming they weren't pursuing a bomb). They continued to develop nuclear technology when the JCPOA was in effect and recently, when purportedly negotiating with the USA, they accelerated their efforts. If the JCPOA had remained in effect, it would have expired next year at which point Iran would have a bomb and ballistic missile.

So for the third time, do you find it acceptable for Iran to have a nuclear bomb? It is a yes or no question. If not, what is your solution to preventing that other than military action?

I would just love Iran to march their troops toward through the desert to try and destroy Israel like their regime has proclaimed since 1979. They would be obliterated in hours.

If the people in Iran have any sense to become a normal nation they will use this opportunity to overthrow the Islamic regime. This is their best chance since the mullahs took control.

I reject your premise that military strikes will actually prevent this. Unless you think that there should be permanent open conflict between Israel and Iran.

Iran will have a nuclear weapon unless the US steps in to help obliterate- also sooner since it is the only thing that will guarantee its continued existence. Israel can't stop this.

"One factor that could determine whether Israel's audacious attack on Iran proves a daring success or a dangerous mistake is the fate of Iran's Fordow uranium enrichment site, Axios' Barak Ravid reports.

The big picture: Israel will require unforeseen tactical ingenuity or U.S. assistance to destroy Fordow, which is built into a mountain and deep underground. But if the facility remains intact and accessible, a nuclear program Israel is determined to "eliminate" could actually accelerate.
"The entire operation ... really has to be completed with the elimination of Fordow," Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter told Fox News yesterday.

That's why the Israeli government hopes the Trump administration ultimately decides to join Israel's operation.

Breaking it down: Israel lacks the huge bunker busters needed to destroy this facility and the strategic bombers to carry them. The U.S. has both within flying distance of Iran.

An Israeli official claimed to Axios that the U.S. could still join the operation, and that President Trump even suggested he'd do so if necessary in a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the days leading up to launch.
But a White House official denied that, telling Axios Trump said exactly the opposite.*The U.S. currently has no intention of getting directly involved, the official said."

This is such a great example of how both ideologies are wrong. We cannot be isolationists and we cannot invade the country for the purpose of obtaining regime change. Bombing to destroy nuclear capabilities is an appropriate middle ground, especially when it's Iran doing the dirty work.

Disagree. Trump had been pretty clear about the US not taking the lead in combating regional problems. Bombing Iran is an escalation that inevitably makes the US a target and has potential for a regional war.

Right now he is negotiating with Iran while Israel bombs but US involvement means no more negotiations and no more Trump as king maker, just second fiddle to Israel. These things are as much about ego as policy.

OTOH Iran with a nuclear weapon is now nigh. Allowing this attack before negotiations ended was a big blunder. It resulted in not destroying their nuclear capability while at the same time not trusting Trump and realizing a nuclear weapon is their only safeguard to sovereignty.

Why don't they have sovereignty?

Because Israel has nuclear weapons they don't; because Israel is backed by US firepower and because Israel can bomb their capital and kill their leadership at it's will.

Why is Iran even trying to develop a weapon created by Jewish scientists? Don't they know it's un-Islamic to possess such a thing?
