Unfortunately, we are already heavily involved in some way or another due to the number of military assets in the region. Not getting involved in any form and pulling out of CENTCOM altogether is a separate discussion.
That being said, war is very unpopular with most Americans and to a lesser degree, not letting Iran have access to nuclear weapons. Trump campaigned on both issues, therein, lies the conundrum.
I prefer the status quo which was last week before Israel struck Iran, but then again, Iran is enriching uranium and getting closer to weapons grade levels per the IAEA.
If Iran or the terrorist groups it finances attack U.S. assets in the region, Trump has no choice but to respond militarily and would most likely suffer politically for doing so.
