He really did think that if he, DONALD TRUMP, just went in and told these other countries what to do, they would all just stop the wars. That was the whole plan.

Yes, it would work. If the POTUS stands firm, Israel has to comply. The problem is that the last time a POTUS said no to Israel was over 30 years ago.

It's kind of ironic here that Trump's narcissism is the reason he is pushing back against Israel, Trump wants credit for stopping this war, and if he can pull it off, he fully deserves that credit.

The question is, are you more anti-Trump than you are anti-war? Because if you aren't, you would agree here that he deserves credit for pushing back against Israel to enforce the ceasefire.

Correct. If Biden were still president, Iran would get a nuclear bomb as the IAEA just confirmed they are close to having.

This current war between Israel/Iran and the wars in Gaza/Lebanon are traceable to Obama/Biden and their empowerment of Iran.

And for those asserting there will be a regional war, please show your work. Who exactly will be fighting with Iran besides the Houthis? And who will Iran attack besides Israel? Iran is defenseless and largely powerless. If the regime survives, they will resort to terrorism - not actual warfare.

There is a possibility there will be a diplomatic solution after Iran strikes back against Israel (likely with complete futility). I suspect the bombing will not be fully successful in destroying Iranian nuclear sites. Iran can trade the full dismantling for a cease fire or other diplomatic solution.
IF "Iran is defenseless and largely powerless," then why did Israel just cry 'uncle' & plead for a cease-fire?

This is completely detached from reality. How many IDF soldiers were killed by Iran in the current war? How many IDF planes were shot down? Why is the Ayatollah in hiding and afraid to use the phone?

And Scott Ritter is a convicted pedophile hackster who has been wrong about pretty much everything. Based on his convictions alone, you should be embarrassed to use him as a source of authority. Speaks volumes.

….or is it "for show" "paper tiger" pushing back? If Trump is actually accomplishing what his mouth and tweets claim he is accomplishing, then he has helped the world, Israel and the U.S. and I would begrudgingly give him props…..and I actually hope he does it.

In the meantime, you will have to forgive me if I am skeptical based on Trump's track record for lack of honesty, the Joint Chiefs of Staff/J.D. Vance walking back the Boss's bold proclamations, the manner in which Bibi conducts operations (Rome Total War until Mission Accomplished), Bibi's apparent upper hand in the relationship with Trump, Iran's fanatical pursuit of its long game goals and the deceitfulness of its playbook, and last but not least, Trump's recent Hat Trick of Horsesh@it:

1. Iran has two weeks to negotiate a resolution or I decide whether to bomb;
2. Our attack obliterated Iran's nuclear program; and
3. There is a ceasefire agreement.

I thought Iran was so strong and had so many allies that a world war would erupt if they were attacked? Leftists wanted to persevere Iran's nuclear program at all costs.

I'm not going to give him credit for pushing back on Israel if he just keeps the same military support in place, no. If he actually takes action to do that, then yes.

Actually pulling out of Middle East wars means you don't drop bombs on Iran.

Finally, while I think it would be good if the US stopped support of Israel's military adventures, I don't think us stopping that support would automatically stop them. Slow them down maybe, yes, but stop? They are a sovereign nation and will do as they please. I just don't think we need to be involved.

Trump may well have averted Israel nuking Iranian installations by conducting the B-2 raid. Bibi's Israel would not have hesitated to do this. Now Trump can claim victory against Iran's nuclear program, take credit for that, and move on. This is well explained in teh beginning of this interview:

Israel cannot survive as an expansive colonial project without US military, political and economic support, yet it has massive influence and power over US policy and that of countries like the UK, France, Germany etc.

Uncoupling from the ME or reducing support to Israel is not something that is even remotely possible with the current political class, including 80%-90% of Democrat leaders.

People made the same "it would be worse if not for him" argument about Biden and Gaza and I don't think you bought it then. No need to make further excuses for Trump. If he actually pulls all support for the war then I will praise that decision.

He's throwing a big bone to Iran, oil exports to China being 90% of their total oil exports, it is Iran's lifeline, one that would be easy to disrupt or eliminate if the US wanted to. This is a peace offering to Iran, an incentive for them to respect his ceasefire.

I know you hate Trump with every bone in your body, but from where I'm standing, it looks like he has made a move to contain Israeli aggression and avert further escalation. I have no qualms about criticizing Trump when necessary, or the Dem presidency before that, but it looks like he has done a good thing here.

I'll be honest, I was one of the first to condemn getting involved in this war at all but it does seem like Trump made the right call. I was pretty upset when I heard he bombed their nuclear facilities because I believed that we were looking at a 20 year commit. I think Iran probably got it's existing uranium out so they no doubt have enough materials for some kind of weapon, but at least they can't make more for now. Hopefully we are looking at the end of this for a bit.

This is what this is largely about not the "right to exist" nonsense

"For 18 months, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has avoided ending the war in Gaza. In part, it risked collapsing his coalition government, prompting early elections that polls suggested he would lose.

Now, after striking Iran and persuading the United States to hit its prized nuclear sites, Mr. Netanyahu is in a much more comfortable position.

Amid widespread enthusiasm in Israel for his actions against Tehran, Mr. Netanyahu's polling numbers are higher than at almost any point since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023. "

Exclusive: Early US intel assessment suggests strikes on Iran did not destroy nuclear sites, sources say | CNN Politics

https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/24/politics/intel-assessment-us-strikes-iran-nuclear-sites

"The US military strikes on three of Iran's nuclear facilities last weekend did not destroy the core components of the country's nuclear program and likely only set it back by months, according to an early US intelligence assessment that was described by four people briefed on it.

The assessment, which has not been previously reported, was produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon's intelligence arm. It is based on a battle damage assessment conducted by US Central Command in the aftermath of the US strikes, one of the sources said.

……. Two of the people familiar with the assessment said Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed. One of the people said the centrifuges are largely "intact."

"So the (DIA) assessment is that the US set them back maybe a few months, tops," this person added.

The White House acknowledged the existence of the assessment but said they disagreed with it.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN in a statement: "This alleged assessment is flat-out wrong and was classified as 'top secret' but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community."

NYT, we went from 3 months to a bomb to 6 months

"A preliminary classified U.S. report says the American bombing of Iran's nuclear sites sealed off the entrances to two of the facilities but did not collapse their underground buildings, according to officials familiar with the findings.

The early findings conclude that the strikes over the weekend set back Iran's nuclear program by only a few months, the officials said.

Before the attack, U.S. intelligence agencies had said that if Iran tried to rush to making a bomb, it would take about three months. After the U.S. bombing run and days of attacks by the Israeli Air Force, the report by the Defense Intelligence Agency estimated that the program was delayed less than six months."

Per reporting in the NYT, Iran's nuclear program has been set back 6 months. The program was not obliterated and given the current atmosphere could cause Iran to seek a nuclear weapon more now than ever. If you are a small country and you want to stop aggression towards your country, then get a nuclear weapon just like North Korea. Where is the 900 lbs of enriched uranium?

Tangentially related (like I know what that even means):

+ Spanning several decades, I would hear that harnessing nuclear fusion was the holy grail of unlimited energy and would ask my local physicist when we would be able to do that. The answer was always, "We're 30-50 years out."

+ Also spanning several decades, I would occasionally venture to LA just to remind myself why I don't live there and also watch Cal lose a football or basketball game. When I would ask a local how long it takes to drive from Point A to Point B (never mattered where the points actually were). The answer was always, "About an hour."

If i8t works out, I will give him his props. A thing I hate as much as Trump is Israeli aggression, phoniness, sucking billions away from the U.S., so containment there is welcomed no matter who accomplishes it.
