Jimmy Carter's Senate gained seats and he was polling below 50% at the midterms.

Cook currently has 37 seats in the core battleground; the Toss Up, Lean Democratic, and Lean Republican categories. Of those, 23 are currently Republican held seats and 14 are Democratic held.

A 20 seat loss for Republicans is almost unreachable given 86% of Republican held seats were carried by Trump by more than 10 points.

In 2018, 39 Republican seats were rated toss ups or worse. This year, only 23 Republican seats are rated toss ups or worse.

This is also such a half baked statement because transport, agriculture and industry are downstream from energy. High diesel and fuel prices will result in higher prices for food, transport, etc
