For obvious reasons, this is not Bullish for the U.S. economy.

All thanks to a "little excursion" that is "small potatoes" and "no big deal"

The buybacks have ALREADY started.
Duh.

As it stands, Bessent brought a pea shooter to a tank battle.

From an initial $2 Billion to now $6 Billion in the hope of providing liquidity to get Banks out of bad positions on longer dated maturities (10 to 20 years) and free up their capital so they can participate in Treasury auctions.

But his remarks today show an admission that he cant prevent fundamentals from dictating yields.

It should be fun watching Bessent increase the buybacks to feed the "beast" and up the ante.

Popcorn ready!

Here's the U.S. Treasury Buyback Schedule.
Note: The buybacks started LAST MONTH.

US crude oil at $100 barrel. The golden age, lol. Just give every citizen $5,000 - that should solve our problems. What a joke of a government.

But I heard in this forum 2 weeks ago from a poster that we CONTROL THE STRAIT.

Apparently, they believed what Trump had said back on Aug. 12th.

Why are crude oil prices going through the roof if we CONTROL THE STRAIT?

That doesn't make it sound any better. Up is still up despite what the expectations were.

For added context the CPI comes out tomorrow.
For additional context, the yield on the 2-year Treasury is nearly 4.50%

For context, the Fed Funds Rate is 3.50 - 3.75%

The Fed is so far behind the curve for an increase in rates it isn't funny.

The market place is literally pulling the Fed by the hair to RAISE RATES.

For those that actually follow the markets, 3.4% is massively ABOVE the Fed's inflation target of 2.0%
That's why Fed Chairman Warsh and his colleagues will be raising the fed funds rate on the 16th.

Thanks.

Uninteresting topic, but troll on with the investor point of view as if it mattered.

Quote:

Once the central bank buys government bonds, it's as if Treasury never issued them in the first place (except that they don't disappear the way stocks typically disappear with share buybacks).

Bessent and Warsh announce that they have decided that past purchases constitute a "strategic buyback" so the bonds disappear from both balance sheets. Warsh gets to shrink the size of the Fed's balance sheet (as he's long wanted), Bessent gets to execute a genuine buyback, and we duck way back down below the debt ceiling. Everyone wins!

An "uninteresting" topic and yet we still get to see Stephanie Kelton weigh in with her typical conflating and amusing tweets.

I'm not surprised that she's confused when it comes to the use of the word "buyback" and conflating two different markets ... equity with fixed income.

No participant in the fixed income market would be confused by the term "buyback".

I'm not surprised by Miss Kelton's confusion given her background as an ACADEMIC and once advisor to Bernie Sanders.

She's my new Amuse.

It's difficult to ignore that Core CPI prices rose 0.3% higher than the previous month and higher than expectations.

The Core PCE (the Fed's favorite measure of inflation) looks to have risen by 0.3% in August which would yield a 12-month core PCE inflation rate of about 3.4%

The official PCE metric wont be published until end of September.

CPU by Region in August:

West: +3.2%

Midwest: +3.6%

South: +3.1%

Northeast: +3.9%

If anyone thinks that the FED won't be raising interest rates on the 16th, they are terribly naive. The only question is how many more rate hikes are in the offing.

Cant wait for Trump's coming MELTDOWN on Truth Social.

Yeah, the tweet BS reposted is comparing price rises over 8 years for Clinton, Bush and Obama versus price rises over 4 years for Trump1 and Biden and over 2 years for Trump2. It's just smoke and mirrors to make Trump's inflation look like less than it really was. Anyone who does their own shopping knows the truth.

Food for thought:

The increase in food prices during President Trump's first two years of his second term has been below the national twenty-year average.

USDA puts the 20-year historical average increase in food-at-home prices at about 2.6% per year (2006-2025).

2025: Average grocery prices increased 2.3%, below the 20-year historical rate of 2.6%.
http://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/chart-gallery/76961

August 2026: BLS reports grocery prices were 2.2% higher than August 2025.

The PCE is currently running at 3.7%

For those unaware, the Personal Consumption Expenditures index is the Fed's preferred inflation gauge.
